Sort of late for updates, but it seems I found a fix. I used Rufus to create a bootable GPT UEFI USB drive, and that was it :)

GTX970. My HDDs are not the reason. AFAIK not the Areca 1882ix, either, as it has the latest FW. Sound card is a TItanium HD.

Got busy today, too, bot I did try the F8 boot menu. Not a single UEFI option to be seen.

All set to AHCI. For CSM settings check the album in the first post :) From what I can understand it should be all good, UEFI set first wherever I can see an UEFI option.

I can "deinitialize" it easily through diskpart, but of course a rebuild doesnt take long... delete array, choose the drives and re-create. There is no (U)EFI boot option for my BR/DVD-reader, though. Just "P6: ATAPI", as in the 2nd picture. No 2nd option...

So, I'm having some issues installing win 7 on a GPT partition. As my raid drive is 3TB I really cannot use MBR for this, so it's now initialized as GPT. I thought this would be easy, but it's not. I simply cannot figure out how to make it work - most times I see people mention multiple lines...

Just saying, if the 1691 v3 is unlocked, a 14c/28t daily driver at 4.5GHz is possible.

I thought it was the same deal with the 1680v2? I was looking for info on it all over the web back when the v2's were released, and all I found was indeed a couple of webshops, and nothing on ebay, either.

1680v2 is an 8 core. There are even a few on ebay as we speak - but at $1k, why bother :p maybe for science+ :D What we really need is someone with too much money who can buy this and give it a shot...

Is that even a question? The stock cooler doesn't shine if you want reasonable temps and silence in a regular desktop setup. It was sort of loud on my bench desk, even... I'm guessing the fan would spin up even further if it was 30-40C hotter, stuck between a pair of GPUs in my daily driver.

Swapped the wtock cooler for a pair of VF700-Cu's - images here, as I can't see any attachment options on this forum (???): http://forum.hwbot.org/showthread.php?t=131388 I'm guessing it would be safer to just get the dremel out of the closet and cut a few mm off of the fin-base on the left...

I was thinking of using an ASUS M3F for this. It does 2.0 x8 if I use the two top slots, but I'd rather use the bottom one (2.0 x4), because of the extra space between the cards. If that's a bad idea PPD wise, I won't. 2nd option is some AMD mobo + a Deneb, or Thuban. Still not 100% sure if good...

I got a couple of GTX970's here... for folding only. My question is if my older MB/CPU/RAM combos are up to the task. I've got two 1366 quads and a 1156 quad here, and top range motherboards. Good enough?

Because I'm not sure how adequate the airflow will be - and I want a fairly quiet rig (it's in my bedroom). Plus, I like doing unusual things with my computer parts :) Adding some identity to the rig.

Not sure if answered before, but... anyone got a 1280ml (or any other 12xx card)? I need to know the distance between the mounting holes, so I can look for a better heatsink (or possibly a GPU block if I go nuts).

Now, this is the weirdest thing I've seen for a long time. There IS a 4GB stick installed, which looks like a black backplate. Hynix. I was totally expecting a green PCB on that stick so I didn't even bother taking a closer look :p *octopus facepalm*

Anyone with some 1280ML knowledge here? :) I'm thinking of buying a 1280ML, but I see all these different revisions on ebay. Ver B, Ver C, Ver 1.0 and 2.0. I have no clue if there are relevant differences between these four.

In general I think us hardcore folders have to stick with high end rigs. 4P Magny Cours should still be fine :) My ES chips are approaching 5 years, and still kick some ass (though they're not folding at the moment, sucks being back in my mom's basement... with all these rigs collecting dust).

Depends on the IC used. The revision could tell you what's inside, at least to some degree.

As the title suggests, is it a good idea to mix B0 and B1 Interlagos samples? Found a cheap B0 that I want to match to a spare B1 I've got here. Do B0's clock worse than B1? Not sure if there are enough chips tested by you folks to actually know this. However, if some B0 users have pushed...
