Static Electricity Issue - Second KIA Sound Card, Dry Room

What would you suggest as my grounding habit then? Get an ESD mat? Connect that mat to my case then by wire and a screw? Make a habit of touching the mat before I touch the headphones? I'm open all ears on any solution. I'm already set on getting a humidifier - I already have dry skin, this is...

Static Electricity Issue - Second KIA Sound Card, Dry Room

My PSU is securely/screwed in to my case, and what's funny is that the screws on the (old haunted, static prone) PC are not painted. I know my case should be grounded, I know my PSU is attached to my case, and my case is anondized aluminum with plenty of exposed nonpainted interior (to be...

Static Electricity Issue - Second KIA Sound Card, Dry Room

Do you think I'm kind of shit out of luck then at attempting to migrate this issue at all? Perhaps go to an external sound source? I wish I really brought with me an old Sony (tv receiver I was contemplating using as an amp/possibly DAC from optical out of my sound card since the analog ports...

Static Electricity Issue - Second Sound Card dying on me with same issue, Dry Room

Thanks for the reply. Here's how my system is set up: a) Headphones are HD 595s from Senn, hooked up to dual mic+headphone extension cord that lets me easily wrap the cord around my desk, directly to the 3.5mm port on the Soundcard. b) I run a UPS (1500W?) by CyberPower that I've had since 2009...

Static Electricity Issue - Second Sound Card dying on me with same issue, Dry Room

Hey HardOCP, Long story short, I had a second audio card die on me lately. I think the culprit is accidental exposure to small static discharges when I pick up my headphones in my residence. I now live in a state that is very dry in humidity so I gather static all the time in my place...

OC'ed 4770K with EIST/C states enabled does not drop frequencies until 100% load

FIXED by either disabling core parking as GeneQ said or upgrading to Windows 8.1 which afaik has no core parking for my i7 + with my OC. It's great!

Newest Build in 3 years, need advice on trustworthy/longetivity brand names

I'd hate to be a pest but, what nowadays is a good aftermarket thermal paste? I know Arctic Silver was all the rave 4-5 years ago, I'm guessing it has changed? Here's my current setup, I pretty much have everything in line, except maybe doubting going for a lower speed or the less pricier...

Hmm. Thanks for the updated info then Dangman, I think I'll just have to bite the bullet on the PSU and risk with RMA/return if I get some major coil whine. I did not know this had been an ongoing issue for years now. Many thanks also for that Fan roundup, my goodness, that's a great link! As...

Newest Build in 3 years, need advice on trustworthy/longetivity brand names

Thanks for those super recommendations Dangman! I think I will go with what you listed, the MSI Z87-GD85. I'm not very overly keen of Rosewill products, as I've had a few of their products go sour or just perform poorly on me, I'm willing to pay idiot tax for a bit more of security, like the...

Newest Build in 3 years, need advice on trustworthy/longetivity brand names

Well, I guess I'm open to that eSATA card or more higher quality manufacturers who have solid drivers. The last time I had an eSATA card, it caused Explorer (Windows 7) to lock up whenever the drive would be idle/have its reading arms docked until it full spun up to its proper RPM and Explorer...

Newest Build in 3 years, need advice on trustworthy/longetivity brand names

What model types of Seasonic do you recommend? I failed to mention I'm rocking a Corsair TX850W (or was it HX?, it's the NOT-modular one), I still like corded because way back when I was making new setups I remember modular not having the best DC rails/least amount of noise on the +12/5v ones...

Newest Build in 3 years, need advice on trustworthy/longetivity brand names

Let me say currently, I'm still rocking in the Intel Q era, and haven't built a PC in 3 years since. Most things that will be recycled from my current build to my new build will be: Hard drives, my SSD, my sound card (XFi Titanium), my current case (Lian Li V2000B, I love it), and all its...

P67A/AHCI BIOS does not detect Intel G1 SSD...

Thanks guys. I will try it on a 3G port later after work. That's kind of silly that Intel's own chipset can't even work with their older model G1 SSDs... oh well! Hopefully then none of my other hard drives (all WD except a 1.5TB drive by Seagate) will be correctly detected. Will report back...

P67A/AHCI BIOS does not detect Intel G1 SSD...

SOLVED: Following the the posts below, it appears Gen 1 Intel X25-M SSDs are incompatible with the P67 PCH 6Gbps ports! :( Hello all! Before I proceed, here's my (current in progress) rig: Core i7 2600K GIGABYTE P67A-UD4-B3 1.1 (updated to F4 BIOS from F2 stock) 2x4GB DDR3-1333 G.SKILL...

New build brings... new troubles! (Help, Sandy Bridge build)

Thanks! I don't think the "legacy" bios will bother me. The old ones never really have, and I'm still kind of liking the legacy BIOS just because I'm still really familiar with all the PCI devices and their options. I decided and went ahead with: GIGABYTE GA-P67A-UD4-B3 and G.SKILL Ripjaws X...

I think I'll be looking at Gigabyte and ASUS mobos tonight... New build brings... new troubles! (Help, Sandy Bridge build)

I think I will return both the memory and the motherboard, play it safe with DDR3-1333 memory and go Gigabyte or ASUS provided they have at least 8 SATA ports that I need. Any suggestions for RAM and the Motherboard again? I'm leaning towards just getting the 1333 Ripjaw counterparts of mine...

Yet another new build thread (but I only need a few components! :V)

Hmm. Maybe all this time along I've never needed it? I read that VT-D is only really needed for 3D applications, is that true? So are there no P67 motherboards with VT-D? I can't seem to find one at all. Damn. And now my current system is flaking out like no other, it's either time for a total wipe or finding whether the mobo or GPU of mine is causing crashes/freezes too :\

Yeah, I was already planning to get the 2600K. Last question: Is this MSI P67A-GD65 board also VT compatible? I run various virtual machines through Oracle's/Sun's VirtualBox as well, I totally forgot to mention this in my original post. Also, finally got my LGA 1156 bracket in from Corsair, phew!

Well, I guess I'm ready to pull the trigger, but I really to know whether older Corsair H50s need a new mounting bracket for LGA 1155, I have had mine for about 2 years now and it's currently on a LGA 775 system. Otherwise, anyone know where I can get a number for Corsair, everything I find on...

Thanks for the recommendations, guys! I've always sort of been wary of MSI... are they now a reliable board manufacturer? I've always been a Gigabyte/EVGA/Asus kind of guy, to see sort of where I'm coming from. Also, I'm assuming this "promo code" for the 2600K is in the Buy/Sell subforum...

Recommendations for a new wireless router

I should also emphasize this as well in a separate post: Price is not that much of a factor. We need a future proof (g and n) router that can handle all these type of connections, so it can be between $70 - $250. I've been looking at dual-band routers, but it appears a lot of them are plagued...
