What's the biggest benefit of SATA over PATA besides future compatability?

Well, the connectors on SATA drives and mobos are much more fragile than on the PATA drives and ports. They could be an order of magnitude (10x) stronger with a simple change, but IDK if any of the HD companies do it. .bh.

    Smallest case for standard components

No significant cooling thru the case. Several tests have been done on cases of the identical design: one in aluminum and one in steel (Chenming Dragon design, IIRC) and there was no significant difference with identical components. BTW, what did you choose OP? .bh.

looking for case - please help

Well, I remembered some - edited into my early message with more here. The K10 doesn't have a window, but it may be replaceable with a standard Lian Li windowed side panel as it's made by Lian Li. Unf. the windowed side panel with the L-L name will cost about a third the price of the K10. OTOH...

looking for case - please help

The mobo tray will be the hardest to come up with. Since 120mm fans became a requirement, trays have gone the way of the dodo. One of the few that has one for a reasonable price is the Ultra m998, but it lacks a door. There are a few with trays that come out thru the right side rather than a...

Can you connect battery terminals with wire? will it work?

It's not clear what you intend to do. But yes, as long as metal to metal contact is good you should get conduction. Of course, soldering would be better, but wrapping can work temporarily. .bh.

Whats the name of the program that tells you your computers temeperature?

generically called Health Monitoring software. Quite a few out there and another recently showed up at MajorGeeks.com within the last week or so - they host most of the other free ones too. I haven't had a chance to try the new one yet. Try the one that came on the software CD with your mobo...

Will I overload my fuse box?

At least one of the outlets in the room could be on a separate circuit. If not, I'd make it so. You can test by tripping the breaker to your room then first test each outlet to be sure it is dead.- if you switched the breaker off than any outlet that's still live would be on a separate circuit...

What's the biggest benefit of SATA over PATA besides future compatability?

Cleaner wiring and simpler configuration (generally only one or no jumpers) - that's about it. NCQ slows things down for a single user. The transfer rate of the current physical design of the drives doesn't come near the available bandwidth of even PATA not to mention SATA 150. Even the...

My APC battery backup need a new battery

The rarely discussed piece of hardware in the house...

I use a Sangean RCR-22: http://www.sangean.com/product.php?model=RCR-22&prod_id=39 - It has dual alarms - auto setting and periodic syncing with the Atomic Time Standard. Humane alarm buzzer starts out on low volume and eventually ramps to full - you can set upper limit with a control on the...

is NEWEGG the last safe place to order?

Newegg is good for those who know what they are doing and do their homework. Hard to find decent customer service anywhere. With the Egg, if it's other than an RMA, you're SOL... I've recently bought from Provantage, TechOnWeb, CostCentral, Performance-PCs and others with good results. But I...

re. the bold text above: What are the Lanboy, the Super Lanboy and the p160 made of, eh? And material only makes a difference where it makes a real difference. Mid-Tower Case Suggestion?

I know the OP has already leapt, but I always recommend the Rosewill R5600 series (the 5605 being my current favorite). About the least expensive case that covers all the bases. Smallest case for standard components

Actually the Rosewill RZS series is the smallest I've found in a good while. It puts the PSU sidesaddle in the bottom front. That's the only one I've seen with the PSU in that orientation - I've seen several with the PSU in the bottom front with the exhaust out the front. As always, a really...

About the antec 900 and the PSU placement

Actually the PSU mount on the 900 is bi-directional, but probably it would be best to mount the Corsair with the fan up - the same for most PSUs with the large fans in the top. The Enermax Liberty I had was unhappy with the fan upwards - it was noisier that way. But that is not an uncommon...

Steel vs Aluminum: Which do you prefer and why?

I used my Enlight 7227 as a stepstool on occasion (sat on it too) and I'm not light at over 200 - man those things are sturdy. It's around 10 years now and I have my old system core in it still. It's so old that there is not even a pic of it on the web (that Google image search can find anyway)...

For a while there, there were three or four names in the category. I'm not sure if IBM's Via Voice is still in development, but Naturally Speaking is still out there. I think Nuance, the same company that also absorbed ScanSoft picked Dragon (developer of Naturally Speaking) up too. You can...

Where to buy a cherry G80-3000 keyboard?

eBay or Mouser. eBay if you are looking for cheap - Mouser if you are willing to pay high retail. I did a search with Froogle and got five hits - none of which I've heard of before. You'll need to check them out on ResellerRatings.com. Actually it may be nowhere as I can't even find it listed...

    Small keyboard

I recently bought a used Cherry mini keyboard G84-4100PPAUS off eBay - nice little kbd. where can i buy a project box that is long?

Hard to be both taller and shorter at the same time - mutually exclusive attributes... ;) The Mouser catalog is a good place to start. A new Fan Controller

A single real Molex brand contact like those used in the peripheral connectors is rated at 9 Amps ( I wouldn't want to load cheap Chinese contacts to more than 7 Amps), so no, you should not load it to full power w/o a different connector arrangement. But it is a nicely different look in a fan...

Steel vs Aluminum: Which do you prefer and why?

As was said above, the Rocketfish is an unbeatable value, but still most Lian Li boxes are a bit retro re. modern conveniences vs. other current designs. So my keeper case, when all is said and done will be a steel/aluminum hybrid - probably the Silverstone Kublai KL03, though the aluminum...

    lian li fans?

The LL stock fans aren't as low noise as some, but then they put out about 25% more air than many OEM fans. Plus they are ball bearing, so they should last. It was tested in the first 120mm fan roundup in the forums on XtremeSystems and Vapor didn't much care for it. I've got a Rocketfish here...

    What is the WIDEST case?

The Akasa Eclipse/Ultra m998/Global Win YCC-61F1 (all basically the same case) is pretty wide. The Silverstone TJ09/10 as well. These are wide mainly because their mobo drawers can hold 120mm fans. Unnecessary width is generally avoided in case designs, but with those cases it's necessary. Some...

What's wrong with my Lian Li PC-B25? =(

Yeah, you have to loosen the mobo and slide it toward the back plane a bit more - sometimes the springs on the I/O shield keep the mobo away or improper alignment of the ports with the openings. And you want to be sure that there is just a bit more than enough room between the mobo and the back...
