Navi 5700 die size, and implications.

You mean like NVIDIA did with their "successful" 10xx series?:ROFLMAO: AMD was at less than 0.01% of the server CPU market. It will end the decade above 10%. Consumer CPU market? Already ahead of Intel on sales. GPU market has competition from $100 to $700. Navi will just guarantee that...

AMD announces Radeon Pro Vega II Duo, a dual Vega 20 graphics card

You are absolutely correct. The "real" machine learn cards are Google's TPU's, an ASIC. Tensor cores are just the best we have on consumer hardware to run neural net code. This links explains a bit how neural nets work, which in turn makes one understand why tensor cores are much better than...

Navi 5700 die size, and implications.

Until very recently AMD has sold every card they built. What AMD really needs is a card that the market wants to buy, for mining, for machine learning or for gaming. AMD built a card that is more or less competition to the RTX 2080. Every one of them was sold hours after went on sale. Tell...

AMD announces Radeon Pro Vega II Duo, a dual Vega 20 graphics card

Give us a machine learning GPUs and then we call it a real competition. there was a time when i purchased GPus looking at a FPS graph. Now i only look at how fast it runs Leela Chess Zero.

Very Excited About Upcoming 7nm Ryzen, but...

This is talking about the end of Moore's law. Most likely TSMC will milk 5nm adding + signs to the end of the node name until Intel catches up. And Intel won't have 7nm until at least 2021. The TSMC node that i believe we will see a lot is 6nm, which can be used as a direct replacement for...

good price, but as the video i posted showed, the X79 Xeons have lower lag and OC better. it all depends on which x79 mobo one gets and at what price point. do not forget DDR4 prices. i second that notion.

PC Gaming Too Expensive, Switching to Consoles, so long [H]

if you are talking about the included blu ray drive, i agree. one can not build a similar PC with Bd drive for the console price. but one can certainly build a $400 PC that gives a PS4/ Xbone a run for its money.

Since at least Skulltrail in 2008. On X58: 6c/12t Xeons, capable of BCLK OC. prices star at $15 6c/12t. On x79: e5-1600 chips are multiplier unlocked, e5-2600 are multi locked. Prices range from $60 to $320, from 4c8t to 12c/24t. On both: ECC DDR3 is cheaper than plain DDR3, which in turn is...

PC Gaming Too Expensive, Switching to Consoles, so long [H]

    you can't and you needn't, $130 radeon 570 8GB has as much power as a console, $315 nets a new Vega 56 and ~$425 a used 1080ti the first GPU i used at 4k was a GTX 970 with mere 4GB( aka 3;5GB).

PC Gaming Too Expensive, Switching to Consoles, so long [H]

One of the great axioms of PC gaming builds is to pair parts that are compatible and at similar price/performance ranks. one jumps to a 4k gaming monitor and all of a sudden the rig becomes outdated. Consoles are like sub $200 gaming builds running games at low resolutions and unbearable...

better than 95% of the gaming machines out there for sure. and value competition for a 9700k, especially if one will not OC. weeks ago there were dozes of e5 2697 v2 12c/24t on ebay hoving the $275 price point, not ES chips, but retail parts. the chips i suggested are $100-$130

SLi is dead, so consider selling 1 VGA an keeping the other. At today's prices, i would most likely build a X79 system: Mobos are dirt cheap and can still be found new. Last chipset with cheap DDR3. looking right, brand new memory in package can still be found. Bargain bin Xeon CPUs are...

    Replacing a 2TB with a 4TB HDD; way too many 1 & 2 star reviews

HDDs die, most deaths happen after a few weeks of use, others will last some years. A SSD that boots once will last 3-5 builds. So HDD reviews are mostly bad: no one will lose time to report that a spinner did what it was supposed to do, unlike a SSD, which is usually a huge performance...

Trying to do a raid 5 of 6x 8TB drives and it wont let me?

The more drives you have, more risky RAID 5 becomes. If you think that back up takes too much time, there is zero chance you can endure the wait for a RAID 5 rebuild when one of your disks die. Take this problem as the universe warning you that it is time to move to RAID 10.

you may be pricing it wrong. 1TB SSDs are around the $110 mark now. look for Intel 660p drives, they are about as cheap as storage NVME drives can get. edit, if you want something with more value than a 660p, look this thread

try not to spend too much on DDR3 RAM . As your review showed, in real life, RAM speed is not relevant for most scenarios. DDR1333 can be pout on 2:8 strap , run at 1066MHz stock and be overclocked to DDR 133MHz long before your CPU OC becomes limited by RAM speed. My system runs at DDR3...
