Last time I had that slow a transfer rate it was the Hard Disk.
Most noticeable when trying to install a game or such like.
Having said that, your Windows installed ok, may have gone down afterwards.
If you can't RMA it then I would just get a new one to try, you can never have too many...
XFX in stock this morning, not the cheapest but I ordered one anyway from Aria.co.uk
It seems to be live stock count as they were showing more an hour ago.

I'm going to wait until the price has gone up and come back down again, probably about the same time as when the wafer factory can churn out more than 7 a day.
I think it's going to be a long wait. Xmas would be nice though...
That's exactly the card I had (TNT1) in a Gateway P2 450, my first PC back in 1998 which was bought just to play Half-Life on.
I've been into gaming ever since although the wife tells me I should give it up at my age....no chance :p
I would like either one of these cards myself, but at over $350 converted from the GB pound I'll hang on a bit. Probably get the 4870 a bit cheaper to be fair, but still not coming down all that much.
Cheers everyone, that's good information.
It's not as though 4 Ghz is the Holy Grail or anything for me, I was just wondering which chip would be less stressed to do it, and between you all I reckon you've answered it :D
Here in the UK GonzoP, the price difference between a 4850 and a GTX 260 192 core is about $150 or thereabouts, it's a proper jump that can't be considered in a budget build. Not saying I can't go for that but the prices aren't even close :/
Yeah I could always go that way GonzoP, or perhaps a more budget build for the lad, ie E7400, cheaper mobo etc, you know the score.
As you can see I am still undecided, and will remain so until I HAVE to get something organised, which will be soon as the wife is on the case already.
Thanks for the input guys,
crawlgsx, I know exactly what you are saying and I have thought about it a lot too. Sensibly I would be better off keeping the quad, but you know... kids and all that, he doesn't ask for a lot, unlike his brother, so I thought I'd kind of treat him :)
Ta for help on...
My son has sold his computer to a friend, so I am going to give him mine/this one which is Q6600, Maximus Formula, 8800 GT basically. The thing is, I will have to replace it, I am pretty well set on the 8xxx's but can't decide which one will give the best results bearing in mind the different...
Mine did that, but I know it is not a peculiarity of the Maximus as other boards have displayed the same readouts using Probe.
Was it something like this :-
PC Probe II V1.04.19B is red flagging voltages as follows:
1.2VHT= 4.08v
NB Core=4.08v
SB Core= 4.08v
DDR2 TERM=4.08v
Memory=...
I'm unlucky enough to work in a car dealership, I blow mine out every few months using the workshop compressor and air line.
Probably the best thing ever.
I'm sure the local garage would let you guys blow a bit of dust out of a case :)
I was a bit concerned at first when the alarm went off, but all the temps and fans stayed normal.
It seems that it might/must be a reprting error from Probe. Anyway I was just wondering if anyone on here has experienced this, doing a little research threw up at least one other case with the...
Sorry to labour the point, but I have the same problem regarding the Q6600 multiplier set to 6. I have checked SpeedStep and disabled it. Are there any other settings that may be
doing this ?
I have the Maximus Formula but none of the Asus utilities are installed at the moment.
For now I...
I went for a GT yesterday as I couldn't contain myself any longer, I still paid equivalent to $350 for that.
Most places are still selling their old GTS stock for more than that.
I imagine the new GTS will be over $500 equivalent over here, the GTX hasn't softened either with prices generally...
Doesn't really matter how much faster than the GT it is, if it's close to the GTX then that might be enough for the retailers to price it accordingly, so dropping the GT to the more expected level.
This is the UK here, and the cheapest GT 's are still $340 if you can get them, most are nearly...
I ordered it while it was showing in stock, but they had to sort back orders out first I spose.
Aria have them coming in tomorrow if they are to be believed. If Scan give me the knockback I can drive to Aria in 10 miutes.
I think he was just saying that during the course of the 8800 series life, the GTX was a peerless card, the only way that crown was dislodged is by a change in the DirectX spec.
As it turned out it was pretty "future proof" for the early adopters who benefitted most.
