I've used an Oculus Rift before, and the screen door was distracting. Do the Vive PRO variants' higher resolution reduce this meaningfully? I've been waiting on reduced screen door before buying into VR.
The "skateboard" nominally refers to not just battery pack but the motors etc too, basically the powertrain (because the powertrain as a whole resembles a skateboard in that it's mostly a flat plane with a couple of wheels). The battery pack itself though, pretty much is the approximate...
More likely closer to 15B than 24B. And it appears Elon is trying to get other backers to invest (I'd be unsurprised to see Larry Page invest, he famously said he'd rather give his money to Elon than charity) to ensure that no one shareholder has a controlling interest. Plus there would be legal...
I like Solo more than Rogue One (which I thoroughly enjoyed), which I like quite a bit more than either episodes 7 or 8, both of which are miles better than 1-3.
We've rewatched Rogue One and the original trilogy this week after seeing Solo and I feel like of the 5 (Solo, Rogue One, original...
SpaceX wants to load flight crew (astronauts), clear the launch area of ground crew, arm the Launch Escape System, fuel and go.
If something goes wrong while fueling, and it's sudden, LES gets them out of harm's way. If it's just a regular hiccup they can detank at leisure and then if...
These days, Google also indexes sites/pages that Chrome uses have visited. So it's easy for it to attempt to crawl "unlisted" sites/pages, and pages it shouldn't be able to access like various admin paths that can only be accessed after logging in (or should only be able to be accessed ... )
That's a load of bullshit.
http://www.marketwatch.com/story/elon-musk-is-no-corporate-welfare-queen-2015-06-03
The article goes on the benefits of backing his ventures, like all the job creation occurring, for example the Buffalo plant will single-handedly replace nearly 1/3 of all the jobs...
My PS3 hasn't been hooked up for over 2 years and I haven't bought a PS4 yet - I assume I will eventually to play the like 6 games that both interest me and are exclusive. I don't currently miss those exclusives I'm missing, obviously, or I would have bought one by now. I bought a number of PS3...
The current price spike is likely mostly due to short squeeze - basically people who bet the price would tank finding out the hard way it didn't, causing it to go even higher. I expect in the future it will be worth way more than $300, but also I would not be surprised to see it under $200 in...
Before FEAR, I remember the first time I was actively flanked by the AI in Half-Life 1 (or perhaps an expansion) when the marines were not merely flanking me but audibly communicating with each other where I was and what they were doing about it.
I don't want a discless console, but mainly because streaming can't yet match 4K UHD HDR Blu-Ray, and that's the primary use for my Xbox One S's disc drive (as well as regular Blu-Rays). I buy all my games digitally already, but with the Xbox One as the center of my entertainment center, I...
Well that is also a thing, of course, but there was supposedly a SMT problem in A0 that they didn't find until late, so it's plausible that they have a stockpile of chips that work fine with SMT disabled that they can use to fill that segment for a while. Otherwise, why do 8c8t vs 6c12t or such?
Likely one of the reasons for 8c8t is that from what I understand, they discovered a rare SMT related bug in the A0 stepping which was otherwise working well enough that they probably had built up a stockpile planning to launch in 2016 (as you may recall, it was originally supposed to). But they...
Consider that, even though many of these ES leaks appear to be slow compared to Intel processors, and people go "oh no, bulldozer sucks!", in the past AMD has occasionally put out variously intentionally broken ESes. I.e., L3 caches may be disabled, or the reported clocks are 2x actual (which...
These can't install themselves. You have to install them.
Protips:
Buy only "with Google" devices so you have access to Google Market, and all the awesomesauce that comes with Google Apps.
Don't install software not obtained from the Google Market. While it's possible for something to...
I bought and returned a WD20EARS over the last few days. Even doing all the 4K sector partition alignment dances in Linux and Windows 7 (tried Win7 just to make sure it really _was_ the drive since allegedly Win7 is 4K sector smart) that various forums and websites suggested, I couldn't get more...
I want one of these to build a carputer. Low power (thermal / wattage), but enough CPU and GPU to playback HD video (the CPU's no slouch considering it's low clock rate and the GPU offloads things like Blu-Ray just fine). Small and not too expensive, easy to mount however you like.
I just got a new Makita 18V drill/driver and impact (screw) driver combo kit from Amazon gold box a few weeks ago, love the tools. They're lighter than my corded, less powerful Hitachi and super light compared to my old DeWalt 12V drill/driver. They're not the LXT super batteries, just the...
Probably what happens is that there is not a sufficiently direct path to ground from the case to earth, and the discharge flows through everything connected including the ground plane on the motherboard causing a momentary shift in ground potential and crashing things.
Cable it according to what someone looking at the front of the case would expect. Otherwise, the inattentive may swap the wrong drive when trying to repair a RAID...
The amount of tech for $150 you get is not bad, could see uses for home automation etc. However, just getting camera feeds doesn't get you the sophisticated software stack that enables all the interesting uses for kinect, someone will have to build their own.
Also, this guy isn't planning to...
Was anyone else disappointed the video didn't actually feature any kind of break in?
Smashing the way in, or picking the lock, whatever... but this? Sliding a self inflating box under the door? That's not breaking in, it's delivering a package!
.... Though that box is AWESOME.
From John Fruehe @ http://blogs.amd.com/work/2010/08/02/what-is-bulldozer/ :
If I recall this is clock for clock, and BD is expected to clock much higher than Interlagos / Magny-Cours Opterons due to changes in how they designed in (pipeline depth etc).
Ontario may compete with CULV's in the power / performance area, but will almost surely be priced to compete with Atom - making it (for the money) hugely superior to it's "competition".
BOINC results on first silicon for a likely 1.6Ghz Ontario are putting it around 1-5x (int) to 2x (float) a...
It is highly unlikely a 6 module 12 core or larger BD will be released for the desktop, unless the desktop migrates from AM3r2 to C32 or some other updated socket.
Bulldozer on the "client" (desktop) will be available in up to 4 module / 8 core in AM3 (AM3r2 / AM3+ ?) socket, so depending on your board's design may just need a BIOS update.
They have so far only stated BD coming to desktop via AM3 and Servers via C32 (4000 series - ) / G34 (6000 series)...
John Fruehe at AMD has specifically stated that each core in a module will appear to the OS and function as a separate core, not as two threads on a SMT core (like HyperThreading would). I bring this up in reference to the comment towards the end of the article where you say "I might be wrong on...
