To make one thing clear. This is not a SAN.
Quoting wikipedia:
"A SAN typically has its own network of storage devices that are generally not accessible through the local area network (LAN) by other devices."
I'd use the slow (5400rpm) drives for bulk storage, black/7200rpm drives for...
Looks like cables are out of the way of airflow and reasonably well laid out given the limitations you're working with. Good work :D
Some of the elitists around here go all "OMFG WHAT IS THIS SHIT" as soon as someone posts a rig that isn't clinically clean. They need to go smell the flowers...
"special needs"?
On some other forums, like SA, you get infracted and set read-only for a few days if you post table-breaking images. They also have a timg tag that auto-resizes the images and makes them clickable for zoom, so there's really no excuse. This archaic forum software probably...
Save resized image as copy, use a proper image host, not dropbox?
Update to my fileserver pics posted above, I finshed my hardware swap today.
Tried to make the power wiring better, not sure if it's a success though.
Because ASUS are a bunch of retards, I had to swap the the...
Undergoing fileserver upgrades, moving from ancient 3ware card to newer SAS based controllers...
New card gets hot. Temporary fix...
Tomorrow, I'll be doing some brain surgery on this box to swap motherboards and add another SAS controller, cabling should be a fair bit tidier...
Wow, the amount of sperging about desks.
They fulfill different use cases, the Jerker simply isn't big enough for my use, and the Galant is strong enough.
Can you even get new Jerker desks anymore?
Is it really contributing to the thread if his "contribution" is a huge-ass, shitty picture of the innards of a computer?
This is about workstations, not "zomg, i did some finicly shit inside my pc to make it look bettar". That shit belongs in the case-mod gallery, or rate my cables. Not this...
The workstation is your desk and monitors and shit, mainly, seeing the innards is an added bonus, but shouldnt be your whole post.
Also have you heard of resizing your images before posting?
Got the same monitor too, and yes - the tearing can be really annoying, especially if it "syncs" 1/3 from the top or 1/3 from the bottom...
Did you have to swap the caps in the psu?
Has anyone actually tested the DTS Connect / Dolby Digital Live-functionality on these cards in games?
I have fond memories of DDL on the Asus P5W-DHD (LGA775 / 975X ) and nVidia SoundStorm on the earlier socket-A platform, but haven't really seen much data on how the newer offerings handle...
For a lot of people, power and noise is more important than direct overclockability. Not so much the direct power usage delta, but the reduced noise that can be achieved.
I would love to see 5760x1200 tested, not just 2560x1600...
Set the controller to export unused drives as JBOD, and there will be very little interference from the controller logic.
You will still have to use the 3ware options for smartmontools, but other than that they appear as (mostly) normal drives to the OS.
Finally swapped the last HP 2335 for a HP LP2475, 3x24" ftw.
Also removed a usb hub that had been annoying me for some time (cable mess), using the hub on the HP monitor + cable hiders behind it.
