I just completed a new rig and would like to have a single bluetooth keyboard that I can use to switch between computers on the fly. I've been using a simple Arteck keyboard with my laptop and it's always performed well. I figured I'd get an Arteck dual bluetooth keyboard... The problem is, I...
I snagged an ASUS 6800XT at a solid price before this announcement, thinking that I could return it and purchase an rdna3 card if AMD leaned the right direction. I was really hoping AMD would be aggressive and would make available something in the 7700-7800xt range at a competitive price at...
B650 boards announce today. We've already has
This still low key blows my mind. I understand the big boys wanna eek out as much performance as they possibly can for launch benchmarks and whatnot, but isn't there just as much cred amongst the enthusiast crowd for OC headroom? Why not match these...
I keep saying it, but early adopters are getting in on a new platform that will have at least 3 but as many as 5-6 years of life span. Some people don't use that platform to upgrade, but others do. I, for one, cannot wait to build off this in the future.
I believe on of the youtube reviewers (maybe GN) mentioned the IHS being thicker to accommodate the LGA style socket and existing coolers, which in turn could affect thermal performance and heat transfer. But also I might be making that up, I dunno.
Another thing .. I've settled on the ASUS Prime line of boards, but I'm really unsure if it's worth it to splurge on the X670E. I don't think I'll ever need the extra m2 slots or the PCIe 5.0 speeds for anything other than the GPU... or will I? I have spent the better part of the last 3 weeks...
FYI, I am very very much in the same boat. I am upgrading from a 960 that replaced a 930 i bought in 2010 right at the end of the 1366 socket lifespan. The 960 was the limit of my upgrade path. I chose then to spend less, and it cost me in the long run. I am choosing this time to invest in a...
Really not sure how to digest these three boards outside of looks, but I'm interested in the:
ASUS Prime X690E-PRO
ASUS TUF Gaming X690E-PLUS
ASRock X690E Steel Legend
I'm leaning toward the Prime (as I mentioned earlier) but I'm really not sure what the differences are other than the PCIe...
Granted I haven't built a rig since 2010, but I feel like I went through this same song and dance when trying to decide whether I'd stick with an LGA 1366 or jump to LGA 1155. The price of adoption was higher at the time for 1155, but it was the "new" system and more future proof. I went with...
Im tentatively targeting the ASUS Prime X670E-PRO. It seems like a decent value mix of price point, capability, and looks. It's also about $150 more than I expected to spend on a mobo as of a few weeks ago, but I can live with that if the B650Es are underwhelming
It doesn't feel as though AM5 is the answer as a generational step up... at least, not at launch. Platform adoption right now is pretty expensive and comes with some compromise. If I were in your position, I'd wait until the dust settles after the Intel announcements before I start considering...
Absolutely this. Nab a basic 7600x now, roll with it till next Christmas, and then use it in a new build for my boys while upgrading my own system with the latest and greatest.
Exactly. Some of the negative reaction here feels rather overblown. I understand the raised eyebrows over temps under load, but what happens in a month when Intel drops processors with the same issue? Intel and AMD both have been raising temps over the last few generations, if I'm not mistaken...
I'm at a point where, 12 years after my last build, I'm ready for a fresh system with an upgrade path. These reviews have given me some pause, sure, but I'm all in on DDR5 regardless of whether I go Intel or AMD. If I were to choose Intel, even if Raptor Lake proves out to have dramatically...
+1. I know that prices are all over the place, but I'm not sure why we're still seeing so much price overlap. The middle/upper range of 3060ti cards is at the exact same price point as the lower/middle range of 3070. The same goes for 6800xt and 6800. Thr 6700xt is really the only card that...
Lol I gave gone through this exact analysis, right down to the same game. Part of why I shifted from nvidia to AMD on this build is longevity... The amount of VRAM in the Radeon cards are gonna give them a longer practical lifespan than the RTX cards.
Yeah I've seen the AIOs, but I've just never been interested in water cooling. I'm not a serious overclocker, and with my luck I'd wake up in a couple of years to a fried system after a leak or something.
I'll take a look at the vids though!
Interesting. I'm a little surprises this doesn't exist as a product, but I'm all in on the idea of modding it. Is there any particular software I should look at?
Lol my sig PC is a 12 year old build that has been, at various points, a gaming PC, a grad school computer, a professional home work station, and entirely mothballed. It's currently set up exclusively as a media server. It's still listed on my sig simply because it's my last custom build (but my...
Yeah, this is the struggle, too. My eyes are wide right now after so long without a new build. But there is a reasonable part of me that wonders whether I shouldn't just go for something like a 6700 xt now and leave budget for an upgrade down the line. It's probably the smarter move, but I'm not...
Is there such a thing as a screen that can positioned inside your case that displays vitals such as Temps and whatnot? I know there are some for 5.25 bays, but I'm a little surprised I haven't found anything for display internally. It intrigues me enough that I may even toy with the idea of...
The MSI has had some solid reviews from reputable sites. The ASRock is more of an unknown. I've taken a look at the XFX Merc, as well, but once I do that i start questioning whether I need a 6800 XT at all and I circle back to the 3070. Such is the life of an indecisive over analyzer.
I'm not sure about weight, but the MSI is definitely shorter. The ASRock sags, apparently, so I'd imagine it's heavier.
My original plan was to go with a 3070, but with prices the way they are it doesn't make much sense to me to not drop an extra 50 or so on a significantly better card in the...
I almost hate to ask this question in its own thread, but I've been crippled by over-analysis and could use some help. I've targeted the 6800 XT for my next build. ASRock and MSI both have cards at the extreme upper end of my price range. Is there any reason I'd choose one over the other from a...
Yeah I'm aiming towards Corsair too. For the reasons you stated but also for sentiment. I moved to Boise, ID a few years ago, and Micron is HQ'd here. It'd be kinda cool for my first build in 12 years to have a little bit of Boise in it.
That said, I have another Q. 12 years ago, it used to...
My sig rig is purely a media host at this point. I have had 3 laptops over the last 12 years, with the latest being an HP Omen for work that is a solid stopgap gamer.
All that said, I honestly haven't really considered AMD. I was aiming at grabbing a solid z690 motherboard and an i5 2600 as a...
Hey all, I'm attempting my first build in 12 (!!) years, and 4th build overall. I used to be much sharper when it comes to tech specs and whatnot, time has made things a little foggy...
So, the question is (I think) a fairly straightforward one. I'm looking to future proof my new build as much...
I have to admit, there's something fun about slotting in minor upgrades on a 12 year old rig... but the reality is none of this is really THAT exigent. I don't have time to game nearly as much as I used to, and my desktop at this point primarily just runs Plex. Hell, my signature desktop has...
There is a display model available for 950, as well. It's an older model with ddr4 and a different i7, but otherwise matches the specs of the model I posted above. I've considered that one, as well, especially since a 3060 TI aline runs $500ish right now.
Thanks for the reply!
I'd be using this for gaming, as a media server, and occasionally for light graphic design work in photoshop and illustrator. Gaming would only be at 1080p for the foreseeable future, as my monitor setup doesn't support 1440p as of yet.
My main concerns would be future...
So, uh... it's been a while. This board helped me through my 2nd ever build in 2005, and again with my 3rd ever build in 2010. Well, here I am 12 years later, still using that same 2010 build as a media server. It's the longest I've ever gone without a new desktop, so I figure it's high time I...
Thanks! I used to do a lot more overclocking back when I was building rigs regularly, but I've been out of the game since 2011 or so and would need to go through a refresher before attempting it again.
I'll definitely be checking back in with results and requests for more help when I get around...
I appreciate all the help, guys. I've actually been lurking around these boards for like 15 years but my old screen name seems to be locked out for some reason.
Whatever card I settle on, rest assured that I'll be back to share results. It should be as simple as a drop in/drive update... My...
Hey all, I've got a pretty straight forward question that probably doesn't have a straight forward answer. I built my current desktop way back in late 2010. The bones of the rig are:
Intel i7 960 @ stock
ASUS Sabertooth X58
12 gb G.Skill Triple Channel DDR3 RAM
ASUS GTX460 1GB TOP Edition...
