    My older 8800Gt

I can bring this to the place where I bought my build but I was hoping I'd get this fixed myself. Is it possible the sound/board was affected due to humidity?

    My older 8800Gt

How do I reset it? This is the BIOS settings for sound (not sure if there are more). I've tried setting the Front Panel to ACL97 instead of HD, setting the SPDIF Out Type to another option but I still get the distorted sound.

    My older 8800Gt

*blushes* Yes, that worked. I'm not running a hot (literally) 8800GT. Hopefully that will be enough to give a try with X-COM: Enemy something game. And now I have a problem with my audio - heck. I have an Asus P8H77-M, I only have a headset, audio was fine until a week or so ago. I don't...

    My older 8800Gt

Is this the screen? I changed it to PCI and PCI-E (it was previously set to Auto - which should have worked in the 1st place?) Still didn't work...

    My older 8800Gt

That makes sense. So I restarted the PC, went into BIOS, but couldn't find the option to switch the board. I may not be looking at the right place.

    My older 8800Gt

Interesting thing happened. I plugged in the pci connector to the card already socketed in the mobo. Then I boot up and I can't see the screen. I take the card out and I can see the screen again. The computer is booting, I just can't see anything with the card in.

    My older 8800Gt

Yes, that's the one. Checking the box in front of me while typing this... EDIT: Yes, the PSU does have that PCI 6-square connector after all, I had to unscrew the other side of the case to see it. I'll turn off the PC and try again.

    My older 8800Gt

Looks like I'm screwed. My power supply doesn't have that square shape connector. I checked inside the case and the power supply boxes. Btw, that is exactly what my card needs, I noticed it has a square shape plugin for that connector at one of its edges.

    My older 8800Gt

Not at all, actually I don't know what that connector is and I'm looking on the web for what it is.... and also checking my mobo boxes to check for connectors.

    My older 8800Gt

A friend of mine gave me a 8800 GT. When I get it into the mobo and power on, it does a high pitch continuing sound - something tells me this isn't good so I turn it off. My current build has no video card (just the mobo's), so I thought I'd appreciate my friend's gift since he got himself a...

    Building an effective workstation build

Remember though that the Intel 330 SSD 120GB is 99,90 euros and the Samsung 830 128GB is 109,90. They said the Intel was with a promotion, I don't know if it costs more in the US or not. But the Intel is 120 GB and 100 euros. The Samsung 830 is 128GB and 110 euros. 10 euros for...

    Building an effective workstation build

How about this revised build (choosing the Asus P8H77-M PRO REV3.0 you suggested for the mobo) I'm curious though, if I had no limitation on the store I would buy, what mobo would you recommend? Would you still recommend a build like this just for 2d (adobe 2d) and multitasking only (this one...

    Building an effective workstation build

Any advantages of one over the other as it relates to the build? Would this one be any good: http://www.pcdiga.com/2/7784/Motherboard-MSI-Sk1155-B75A-G43 Or the others better?

    Building an effective workstation build

Right, right. The store told me the Asus Sk1155 Bulk (P8H67-V REV3.0) is not available. What do you guys think I could use instead for the mobo? They suggested a Z77. Again, this is the store I'm getting it from because it's local to me: pcdiga.com

    Building an effective workstation build

Mainly Photoshop, Ilustrator, and Indesign. With multitasking I mean being able to run photoshop, indesign, illustrator and my browser with several tabs open while running fast. I can probably get a good build as well with a lower budget?

    1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc 2D work (adobe) Multi-tasking. 2) What's your budget? €900. No need to hit the ceiling though. I'm all for cost effectiveness. 3) Which country do you live in? Portugal. I will be buying from this store...

Yes, that's right Danny. I have Ubuntu on another work PC build. Or maybe I'll install a trial version of Windows 7 (64 bit probably what do you think). The reason for Windows is the Adobe suite.

Help me build a cost effective workstation

If you could build the most cost effective build for gaming

We can leave it any one's criteria and then say "this is my build and it's meant for some overclocking" or "this is great value outside of the box" and the likes.

If you could build the most cost effective build for gaming

If you could build the most cost effective build for gaming, what would it be, what would consist of? I'm not saying to be cheap, sometimes expensive hardware still provides a good value for the money. So what is the best bang for the buck build you could have for?

Build around Core i3 530? (anandtech)

There is an interesting article on Anandtech here: http://anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=3724 It basically goes saying the i3 530 is a good bang for the buck processor for a gamer (if I got that right). How would the perfect build around the i3 530 could be, taking into ease of...

    16:9 vs 16:10

After reading for hours on the web (my eyes, them burning) I still don't know how to face this dilemma: I want a 24 inch screen for both the PS3 and the PC and I still can't figure out what is the best to get. Some people say a 16:10 will make things look fat on the PS3, and recommend the 16:9...

    I need a screen for PS3/PC

Hi guys, I'm going to buy a PS3 and I need a new monitor, my old one is a CTR. My PC is also old but it's enough to do the work I need done, so the monitor would be for both the PS3 and the PC, I suppose it has to have HDMI? I occasionally do some design work (not a lot, just some), it would be...

PC Gamer takes a crap on Penny Arcade

It's probably me, but I don't Penny Arcade funny. Not a bit. On the contrary, I like reading Ctr Alt Delt, I think it has real humour, and it could be a coincidence, but the main character has also brown hair and it's about video games. But the difference is that it's funnier.
