When you get freeze is any light lit on the board? After reboot do you check system event viewer for error messages?

I know, and I also don't own a 144Hz monitor which wouldn't work with HDMI. And you have to pay royalties to use HDMI, and none for DVI.

intel nic is better. yeah c2 chipset revisions fix that sleep issue. I don't use them either but I didn't wanted to buy something that was known to be flawed.

do you have dedicated video card? if so you can try removing it and using the cpu vga. far fetched, but could rule out vga driver issues...

I upgraded to the latest 1504 on my Z87-PLUS and my Samsung 840 EVO works just fine. If its freezing at light loads perhaps something related with idle states? Do you have the new C states enabled? is your PSU haswell certified? if not try disabling them.

I do understand that in haswell cpu plays an important role, i'm just trying to figure out if I need a better board to use DDR3-2400 with a moderate OC. i.e. if the same cpu with the same oc will work with 2400 on lets say asus hero but on the z87-plus it won't.
