    WHS OS drive replacement thoughts.

I had my WHS OS get corrupted. Took out the OS drive, attached it to another box and deleted all partitions. Put the drive back in the WHS and attached both data drives and booted off the install CD. The WHS go straight to Console Recovery, installs OS and sees all the files on the data drives...

    Why Are Heatsinks Nickel-Plated?

It looks nice. Nickle using either electroplating or electroless nickel plating. While both are thin, they are more than a few atoms thick. In the case of plating copper, it prevents oxidation which inside the typical computer case only effects aesthetics. If the nickle was actually preventing...

    is my fan leaking oil?

Oil from the fan bearings would never show up on the tip of a single fan blade without showing up on the paper on the hub. Whatever lubrication is in the fan bearings are located in the fan's hub area. If it came from the bearings there would be dark streaks from the hub outward. You may have...

    EIST/C1E vs. VID (?)

It changes under different conditions. With EIST and C1E enabled under idle the multiplier is 6 so the CPU speed is about 2 Ghz (333Mhz bus speed x 6), and needs less voltage. Under load the multiplier is 9, the CPU speed is about 3 Ghz and needs a higher voltage.

    WHS vs Drobo

Drobos are for photographers who work on iMacs, i.e., people who are only interested in what computers can do, not how they do what they do. For them Dorpbos aren't slow because they otherwise use USB drives. They have about the same chance of setting up a WHS system as the do a nuclear...

    Samsung F4 2TB drive question

The F4 does not need any alignment or special formatting. It uses emulation and appears to have 512 B sectors to the OS, so no issue when used with WHS v1 or XP.

Need dual core to OC that can do stock voltage

Motherboards adjust the voltage to the CPU depending on what VID is reported back to the MB. No matter what CPU you put in it will get the correct voltage to run at stock speeds. Usually the CPU can be OC'd 25-30% without any boost to the voltage. The E5xxx CPUs are a good place to start. I had...

I built a WHS based on a G41 MB, E5200 CPU, 1 Hitachi 1TB system/data drive and 1 Samsung F3, 2TB data drive & Antec EA380 PS. With both drives spinning at idle it draws 43w from the outlet. I have the power settings to power down the data drive after 20 min and then it draws unde 40w. (The...

No, it probably is coil whine, or something related. The fan never spins fast enough to create a high pitched sound. Corsair does their own forum site and in the PS forum there is a sticky about noisy PS's.

    I got my LianLi PC-A05B ! it's Small!

It's not a metric variant It's just plain old metric. There's metric hardware and English hardware, and they don't mix very well. Since Lian Li is made in Taiwan is has metric hardware. There may be a few screws that are english, because the first PC's were made here and those screws became...

    Reducing fan noise

Why do you have so many fans set to intake? There won't be good air flow through the case unless the amount of intake & exhaust are somewhat close to each other. Since heat rises, it makes more sense to set both top fans to exhaust.

    Need help downgrading PSU

That ATI FirePro appears to be based on the same Redwood GPU as the 5670, so it probably draws under 10w @ idle and <70w @ load. If you aren't OC'ing, then your system would be fine with a 400w PS.

How fast do capacitor's age? (Corsair HX520)

Aging is a function of time and temperature. Unless the PS internal temps have been above 80ºC the whole time you've had it, it's not the caps. I also doubt that it's the PS.

    Seasonic M12II-620 Power Supply Review @ [H]

The silk screening (component layout and other information) is part of the artwork for the board and part of a bare board. None of the artwork for a board is updated unless there is a revision to the board. It really is different than a rubber stamp or label that's put on a finished board.

    Seasonic M12II-620 Power Supply Review @ [H]

The date of manufacture is not silk screened into a circuit card. Date of manufacture is (if on the card at all) ink stamped onto the board or on a label affixed on the board.

120*38mm fan with small diameter motor

I suggest you go back and do some math. The linear velocity of any part of the fan blade depends strongly on the distance from the center of the fan. Assuming a 120mm fan, the outside edge of the fan blade travels about 4 times as far per revolution as the part of the blade 15mm from the center...

    OC with speed step enabled

Change the voltage setting from [Auto] to [Normal]. The Normal/nominal voltage may be enough to run stable at 3.4g. If not, then bump the voltage up a bit from the CPU VID; Auto will generally set Vcc higher than necessary.

i5 750 - how hot can it get before losing stability?

The CPU is not "throwing errors" due to temp, other things are. As the temp goes up rise times degrade on other components and circuit cards and timing errors are introduced. The could be on the MB, the boards the RAM chips are attached to or the RAM chips themselves.

    CPU install question...

If you're using the stock Intel HSF, just install it. The thermal compound is quite good (other places have tested it) and you don't have to figure out how much or how to put it on. You have enough fun with the push pins.

    bent pins on 1366 socket

There is a fair amount of clamping force on the Cpu/socket after installation; I wouldn't worry too much when there's no CPU in the socket. What you should check are the mating contacts on the CPU. There should be a bright spot on the CPU contact where it comes in contact with the socket...

storm/wind lights flicker is it normal for PC to reboot?

No, No, NO! That is a Windows setting (only applies to a reboot caused by Windows), not a BIOS setting. There was severe storms in our area Saturday causing the power to momentarily drop out (lights flicker and electronic devices to turn off/on). Same thing happened to the PCs in the house...

Need a video card, not for gaming.

You could do fine at under $75. A card based on either the ATI 4670 or Nvidia 9500 is all you need. I would also look for a card that used a large, low spped fan to keep the noise down. The Adobe products can make use of Nvidia's CUDA which can accelerate some operations in PS. Unless you are...

    PowerSupply Problem.

All of us reading this post can only guess as to what the cause is. You can make a much better guess is you find out what the amp rating is on the circuit breaker and what other electrical devices are on the same circuit. Fully loaded, that PS could draw around 10 amps.

    Possible problem caused by PSU

This sounds more like a heat problem. It could be the GPU, the VRMs on the video card, or a combination of the two. I would get and run a copy of Furmark, which will load the video card more than any game can, and see how long it takes for the video to crash. If it crashes right away, then it's...
