WD Black 2TB (WD2002FAEX) is $160 here, while the Barracuda 2TB (ST2000DM001) can be had for $80... Wow. Things have changed since I've last built a PC...
Is this really the warranty difference? 5 years is nice, but be it 1 or 5, it doesn't matter much if my data is lost. And I'd just replace...
Again, thank you for replies.
I think I still have two undecided points and would appreciate some more input:
- the easy one, HDDs, I'd like two identical 2-3TB HDDs for RAID1, the fastest and most reliable I can get; WD Caviar Black? Seagate Barracuda?
- the difficult one, GPU: I could...
Thank you very much for the recommendations Dangman!
Hm... I really prefer the Intel NIC and the bigger heatsinks seem more dependable. Also, is there no component (capacitors?) quality difference between them?
Whoa, Noctua looks huge, although 212 EVO isn't small either. But I guess...
Thanks!

I usually search for prices on kakaku.com though.
But newegg/US prices are fine to work with.
Right, thanks. And I care about VT-d and TSX-NI.
As for cooling. I'm not sure if I'm ready for water... 212 evo looks good though. Any other air options to...
Hi and thank you for taking the time to take a look and/or leave a comment!
I'd very much appreciate your comments on my new build. I am aiming at the sweet spot, but I don't want to skimp and I am ready to put more money where it would count.
1) What will you be doing with this PC...
Thanks, I would appreciate that. Especially interested in how the scaling works if I needed to do gaming in lower resolutions, or when connecting external devices (like PS3).
If you'd have a chance, could you also take a look if there are any scaling settings in the menu? Thanks!
Thanks for letting us know Dave.
Also, TigerDirect raised the price to 1200 from 1000.
Getting it from Walmart would have been the way to go for the free 15day return policy, but looks like they are giving 1year warranty as opposed to 3 at Newegg.
Ohmycaptain: thanks for clarifying. I don't plan to use it in a very bright environment, so hopefully won't be seeing reflections at all.
Hm, if Walmart has it, that means 15 day return to store policy without restocking fees, if I'm not mistaken. Now if we could get them to price match, that...
Thanks for the review! I'm very seriously considering it, but have been waiting for more reviews. I wanted an IPS, but perhaps PLS is not much worse. I'm intrigued by the semi-gloss display, ACD is too glossy for me, was worried about eye fatigue. I also wanted something with component input...
I appreciate your suggestions, but I was hoping for more comments and suggestions related to questions I voiced in the opening post:
- how each particular monitor works with consoles and other things
- if you recommend something that only has DVI, do you have experience with it working with...
I think HP 2740w is not an option, because of lack of inputs (not even HDMI) and no aspect ratio controls (no OSD at all in fact).
I was also looking at 2440w, which does have HDMI and aspect ratio control. But I'm not sure how well it would play with consoles and other non-standard resolution...
Hi,
I'm in the market for a new monitor. The problem is, I don't have a TV and don't intend to buy one, so I plan to use the monitor for various things:
- PC
- PS3 (perhaps PS2 too)
- cable box (has component and HDMI outputs)
I feel my choice is constrained by input options on...
Thanks for the suggestion, but that's a bit too expensive thing for me just to use to connect a console to the display... I was thinking of something in maybe $50 range... Are there any decent component->HDMI/DVI converters (or whatever they are called) in that range?
Hi,
My trusty LG 245WP is starting to show its age and I am considering getting a new monitor.
I will be using it for programming, multimedia (video), some gaming and some image editing and 3D modeling.
I don't have a TV, so I need to be able to connect to it things like cable box and maybe...
Argh, I really regret missing the latest deal in this monitor, by 2 days only... Should I expect another one in a foreseeable future, do they do them regularly?
Hello,
I want to buy one of those in their lowest capacity, i.e. either:
Intel X25-M 80GB
Crucial RealSSD C300 64GB
OCZ Vertex II 60GB
One note: I know Intel's is more expensive than the other two, but please do not take price into account, let's assume they are equally priced.
I've been...
Thanks to everyone for suggestions.
I got rid of the PRO motherboard in favor of standard -E. There is also an LX version - P7P55D-E LX, which is $20 cheaper than regular -E and I think it only lacks (unless I'm missing something) Firewire and CrossFire support, both of which are not important...
Thanks for your responses!
Hm... I admit I don't know much about timings and speeds, but I feel kind of uncomfortable getting the cheapest memory, I don't want it to be a bottleneck. Found this article on Tom's Hardware. They recommend getting at least CL8...
Power consumption of SLI systems...
I want to use emulators heavily as well, but was considering HTC Incredible. Is it impossible to play without a hardware keyboard? Or, is it really that uncomfortable?
Hi and thank you for taking the time to visit and/or leave a comment!
I'd very much appreciate your comments on my new build. I am aiming at the sweet spot, but I don't want to skimp and I am ready to put more money where it would count. I'd appreciate ides both where to beef up this build more...
I have:
- a CoolerMaster 690 case
- three fans that came with it.
Those fans have 3-pin connectors with detachable 3-pin to molex connectors
- three additional Arctic exhaust only fans (http://www.arctic-cooling.com/fans2.php?idx=111&data=2) with PWM and PST. Those have both 3-pin...
Thanks for the suggestions!
I'll either get a Vendetta II or simply settle with the stock HSF until (if) I decide to OC. My case will be probably loud anyway (I'm aiming at CM HAF-932, I don't know if I'll be able to get it here in Europe soon enough though). And I wouldn't be able to use it...
Well... I'd like to bump this a bit because I would still like to ask for your opinion particularly on following things:
- considering the above, which memory maker would you recommend (from Corsair, GeIL, Mushkin, OCZ, PDP). I'll be buying 2x2GB DDR800 and I want CL4 and rather good...
Thank you for the suggestions.
Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme is quite expensive though and still needs a fan... Any slightly cheaper options maybe? Or is this what should I pay for a good value/price HSF after all? Point is, I don't really care if it'd be louder.
CoolerMaster cases are...
Ok, I'll try to give an estimate of my budget.
I'll be buying in Poland. I'm buying from http://www.znak.pl or http://www.komputronik.pl, although those sites don't have an English version.
So I'll just try giving you a budget in US prices from Newegg...
Hello, I've decided to build something from ground up this time. Done LOTS of research, but I would really appreciate your comments and suggestions, as there are still things I'm not sure about. Thanks!
And there is a small twist: I'm not buying in the US, so there are some problems with the...
ah and there is no PIP in the NEC, is there?
i think i'd find a good use for that, i have a second rig which could use the d-sub input, so having my main rig on hdmi (to dvi) would allow me to use them both at once. i'm doing lots of operating system programming on that second rig, so being...
soo, we have a serious flaw with the NEC: its much more grainy because of its coating(?) and the movies look very bad.
thats could be a winning point for the LG, at least for me... I want to watch lots of movies, divx included...
ehmm, after having decided between BenQ FP241W and LG L245WP, I noticed how this one's price went down and arrived inside my acceptable range...
I have a really good opinion about NEC, but should I choose this display over LG L245WP? I know this one doesn't have HDMI, but any other things I...
