    Python vs PHP

In my experience the alternatives are never as flexible, or if they are they aren't as fast. The beauty about PHP is that it's so widely available that if you are looking into a particular task you can find a code snippet somewhere and improve on it. I could be wrong, but my experiences with...

    Python vs PHP

What language isn't flawed somewhere? Most of the complaints about it being flawed come from the beginnings of PHP - before it became object oriented and sophisticated. A lot of these are vanishing as PHP approaches version 6. One of the things I don't like is the inconsistencies with type...

    Python vs PHP

THIS. I couldn't have said it better myself. Look at a sophisticated PHP application sometime written by people who know what they're doing. You'll be surprised at what PHP can do. Plus, coupled with a good ORM design and database abstraction, it's worth it's weight in gold.

    Python vs PHP

A lot of people know it, but they don't know how to do it well. I'm a full time PHP and LAMP developer and I've been doing it for many years. I dabble in other languages, as all good programmers should. However, my first language when I was in my teens was C++, and I like how PHP now...

240GB RevoDrive 3 SSD for Mere $212 Shipped

This is an amazing deal for an idea that's not completely new. It's not a bad price point either. I just switched to an enterprise level SSD for a LAMP server, but something like this seems to be a single thing instead of like an array of drives something you can put in a hot swap bay. I also...

    Crucial M4 - 256GB, $199.99 FS

I got the M4 at Newegg last week for a higher price than this and it would have been nice to know I could have waited to save money. Oh well! This thing is ridiculously fast and worth every penny.

GTX 670 for sale @ the egg for $399 + FS

I got a Galaxy GTX 670 for my birthday build. The thing is smoking fast - and probably could OC if I wanted to but I have no reason too. Plus my system is in a rack and I am not adding any more heat than needed to it. Coming from a GTX 260 it is quite an improvement.

[DEAD] 9 hours of Bach for $ .99 at Amazon

Someone suggested to me better albums, but it really comes down to two things. a) personal taste b) researching the music This sort of stuff to find great recordings requires a bit of knowledge about music history, knowledge of counterpoint and ornamentation, and countless other things. It's...

[DEAD] 9 hours of Bach for $ .99 at Amazon

I listened to some of the samples. You get what you pay for. The "English Chamber Orchestra" isn't a bad group, but not exactly suited for Bach in my opinion. The Vienna State Opera Orchestra (although a great group) is too heavy for Bach. The soloists are decent but they don't have the Baroque...

    Laptop with easily removeable HD?

I like that idea. I really don't need VMWare to do that either, because I can configure my OS to auto-detect most things and be bootable off of most machines as long as they allow booting through eSata or USB for a laptop. I'm eventually moving my LAMP server from a short stacked 640 gig hard...

    Laptop with easily removeable HD?

It's an option, but not every laptop I've seen has USB 3.0 yet. Plus, I wouldn't need VM Ware because this is Linux and would not care what hardware it is being booted off of. Maybe I should have been clearer on what LAMP means :) I wouldn't need VMWare because if the hard drive is an exact copy...

    Laptop with easily removeable HD?

    1) Yes. This will work with Ubuntu 10.04. I've tested it on several different computers. It won't work with Windows, but I said I'm a LAMP developer, not a WAMP. :) 2) It has to be completely bootable. It's not just the data. My work environment can be reconfigured but it's a pain to do that...

    Laptop with easily removeable HD?

So here's the deal. I work at home as a full time LAMP developer. I want the ability to have a synched copy of my hard drive plugged into my main LAMP server, and I would like a laptop so I could easily take that hard drive out, plug it into a laptop, and be able to boot off of it and continue...

I've had the 667 for almost 2 years now. I have never had a single problem with it, and I absolutely love it. I almost wish I had two (an additional one for my office) but I don't have the budget/space for it right now. Yamaha makes one of the best receivers around, in my opinion.

$50 off Multi Monitor Stand = $99 (not MIR)

Good deals but I can't clamp things to my desk (flush back, and I don't want to mar the finish since I actually have a decent desk) If I could find a wall mounted dual and triple mount I'd be in business. Eventually I want to get nice hardwood stained and beveled pieces between the mounts and...

ToysRUs: LEGO, Buy 2 get 1 Free

About $250 and 4,000+ pieces. The largest lego set ever was the Millennium Falcon. It was about 30 pounds and had 5500 pieces I think. The expensive sets you find today are that way because they are out of production. The most complicated Technic set is also out of production and was...

    Unlimited Detail = It's A Scam

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. I'm waiting on the extraordinary evidence (like a playable demo on current systems). Since there is so much repetition in their video demo, it is entirely possible that they are not storing every single atom, but all of the atoms on the...

    Hot? Sceptere 40" 1080P menards $358

That's why I said it's overkill. :) It's a 47" LG limited edition model that had a glass-like completely flat front so cleaning it was a breeze. My goal was to have something that looked nice on the wall primarily, then secondarily a good monitor. I think 240Hz was the only thing available...

    Hot? Sceptere 40" 1080P menards $358

Perhaps. I stand corrected on some of those points. However, I stand by my NECs for gaming - even though I don't game much. Really, all you need as far as frame rates go is at the most 60fps, because you can't really go past the refresh rate on most monitors. My living room TV is 240Hz, but...

    Hot? Sceptere 40" 1080P menards $358

Exactly right. Input lag and response rates are pretty much not going to be any issue for games on 99.99% of most monitors. Think about it this way - most movies are at 24fps. TVs can display this fine. Why is the frame rate 24fps? Because more than that and most people would never be able to...

Windows Home Server 2011 49.99 FS

Well in his defense a good RAID card doesn't come cheap, and a 'server dummy' may have difficulty installing it and setting it up. However, DE (after doing some research) seems kind of pointless since RAID is a better alternative and doesn't require that much research to get it working.

    $119.99 FS HITACHI Deskstar 0S03230 3TB 5400 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6Gb 3.5 Internal HDD

A few companies like Hitachi have had roadmaps to 4TB by later this year. However, I really think it'll be 2012 before we see them. My reasoning? First, there are still a lot of windows systems that don't support anything larger than 3TB without RAID. Not a majority, but enough to cut into...

    54"H x 36"W x 14"D Steel Freestanding Shelving Unit- $39 @ Lowes

    Intel EXPI9301CTBLK 10/100/1000Mbps PCI-Express Gigabit Network Adapter Card - $25

It's the same as on board video versus dedicated or on board RAID versus dedicated. In all but the cheapest cards it'll almost always be better to have a dedicated card. Further, just like video/RAID cards, you get what you pay for. Most people probably wouldn't notice much of a...

    Hot? e-sata 4 bay enclosure $90 - 15% coupon = $76.50 @ egg

I agree with this comment. I never bothered with a NAS because I need massive throughput. Plus, it's relatively easy to build your own and just Samba share it through Ubuntu. It won't be as tiny, but you can build your own RAID, have multiple gigabit ports, etc.

    NEC 23" 1080p eIPS $170 shipped

I've used IPS panels for gaming for a while and I never noticed any ghosting whatsoever. Usually your refresh rates are only going to be 60Hz or 75Hz - meaning a 13ms response time should be more than adequate to cover at least a 60Hz refresh rate or even a 75Hz refresh rate. (1000ms/60 or...
