Hi all,
Hopefully the last question concerning my transition from XP to Win7:
I still have XP installed on an old HDD, and have installed 7 on an empty partition on a newer HDD (the rest of which contains a lot of non-system files that I put there using XP.)
The drive with XP was...
It's 64-bit, so I was hoping for an improvement and was even considering getting more RAM. But it doesn't seem possible with the motherboard. Apparently it needs to have a memory remap feature, which mine doesn't have.
(The "more RAM" thought was also unrealistic, because my abit ip35e...
Thanks a lot to all who replied!
I've installed the OS and, apart from a few minor/innocent bugs, everything seems to have worked fine so far. The system still only recognizes 3 GB of RAM, but that seems to be a known problem with the motherboard (no memory remap option).
In the absence of a...
After consulting with you nice people, I've bought Windows 7 OEM to install on my own PC. Problem is: About 4-5 years ago, MS apparently changed their OEM license agreement, so that it's now strictly speaking not "legal" to install an OEM OS on your own PC.
So the license agreement on the...
Thanks a bunch for your replies, everybody!! It seems 64 should be the way to go.
However, about the bios, my main concerns are:
1. I have never tried to flash a bios and have no idea how to do it. When I last attempted it, I found the info on the abit site incomprehensible. Plus, if I do...
Hi,
Support for XP has ended so I'm getting Windows 7, but I am not sure if I should go for the 32 or 64 bit version.
Cons (for 64-bit): Most of my system is 7 years old, and I have a feeling the 32-bit version will give me fewer problems with hardware compatibility, drivers, and so on. Do...
Thanks, Danny Bui, much appreciated!
Meanwhile I found this cpu comparison chart that lists the Q6600 and the Pentium G840/860 in the same tier (and with the Q6600 apparently on a higher level within the tier).
So getting the pentium wouldn't in reality be an upgrade, but maybe even a...
I usually just buy from Danish online stores, such as www.proshop.dk or www.bj-trading.dk
My budget would be about 160 Euros (1200 DKK) for the mobo/cpu/ram. For the psu, I don't have a fixed budget - I've heard too many horror stories about cheap psu's, so I'd want a quality one...
Sure! :)
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Skyrim!
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
About $200 for mobo/cpu/ram
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
Denmark
4) What...
Hi all,
You may remember from this thread, that I've been having some gpu problems lately!
On last week's episode, it transpired that the monitor received no signal at all from my newly purchased ASUS ENGTX560 DC/2DI/1GD5.
The main suspects were the motherboard (compatibility) and...
And you think the artifacting is caused by the PSU? Is there any way I could check this out?
PSUs are pretty pricy here, so I'd rather not buy one unless I was sure that was where the problem was.
A PSU would cause artifacting by sending out a voltage spike, or something, right? But this...
Thanks for replying!
It sounds like it didn't damage any of your other components, BurntToast, so at least that's good news. :)
I haven't noticed any stickers falling off.
Thanks again to all who's replied!
Tsuyoi, no, I've never heard it beep, and I can't find anywhere in the bios where I can make it beep.
If it's not against any forum rules, I'll post a message in the gpu section asking if anybody has had experiences similar to mine with a GF 560 card.
Time for an update:
Today I uninstalled all nvidia drivers and ran Driver Sweeper in safe mode, as you suggested, before (and after) reinstalling the 8800.
No matter how many times I ran Driver Sweeper, it still reported that there was a driver "fragment" left in the registry, called...
Not yet, to be honest. :o
I'll do it when I've had some sleep. It's past 6 am here - I've been up all night struggling with these issues. At one point I couldn't even get the GF7300 to work, but after a very frustrating hour, I realised I had forgotten to plug in the ATX 12V cable! :)
Thanks for your replies!
BurnToast, did you experience any problems with other components before your PSU died, or did it simply not power up one day?
I'm having some very annoying problems with graphics cards at the moment, and am trying to find out what could be causing them. (As I've...
Again, many thanks for replying!
I received the 560 GTX today, and thought I would try installing it, before sweeping the drivers. (I now realise you probably meant I should have done it in the opposite order!)
Anyway, the result is: The monitor doesn't receive any signal from the 560...
Thanks, guys! I'm starting to feel a little more at ease now! :)
JoeUser, sounds like a good plan. :)
HeavensCloud/JoeUser, I haven't done any overclocking.
Hmm... I think I did do a complete uninstall, but only using add/remove programs, and not in safe mode. Also, I only did it a...
Thanks for your replies, Skillz and Danny Bui!
Hmm....
Do you/anybody have an opinion about whether it might be that defective?
Like I said, the PC is working fine with the GF7300 - I'm using it to write this.
Is it likely that a PSU could have some defect that wouldn't...
Thanks, Danny Bui!
I'm hoping to receive the GTX 560 in a day or two, so the logical next step would be to install it, and then if the problems persist, that would indicate that the fault lies with the PSU or mobo, right?
But if this turns out to be the case, could the other components...
Hi,
I built a PC about 4 years ago. For nearly the whole time, I've had Geforce 7600 GS graphics card. About a month ago, I replaced it with a second-hand Geforce 8800 GT card (Inno3D, 512 MB, with passive cooling.)
When playing Skyrim on medium settings, or above, after some time, the...
Hi,
I would like to know if my Corsair 620HX-EU can power my PC without problems, once I install an ASUS ENGTX560 DC/2DI/1GD5d graphics card.
I'm asking, mainly because the PSU (and build) is more than 4 years old, and I am concerned that it won't be powerful enough now, because of things...
Hi guys
I'm looking for a monitor to replace the old CRT that has sadly stopped working.
I'm going to use it for allround purposes / text editing, and for FPS gaming.
I don't want it to be too big, because then I can't read the text. (I tried a 22"WS, but had to send it back.) So I'm...
Thanks for your replies. :)
It seems to work (have only been using it for a couple of minutes though) but I'm getting the error messages "CPU is unworkable or has been changed. Please recheck - CPU SOFT MENU. and "Detect drives done, no any drive found. Not sure if it's something to be...
Thanks guys. Very helpful pics, enginurd. :)
I must admit the connectors do fit the so called "peripheral power cables" that came with the PSU. Don't know why I thought they didn't.
The PSU manual doesn't say anything about what (identical) connectors on the PSU should be used...
Okay, Im a total noob and this is my first build, and (to quote Towlie) I have no idea whats going on, even after reading all manuals several times and googling.
My main question is how to connect the Nine Hundreds fan cables!?
The Nine Hundred has four fans and each has a red and a...
Hi,
As some of you may remember I'm about to embark on my first build. Im hoping to have all the parts tomorrow, and Id appreciate your thoughts on how to avoid damaging it with static electricity when I build it.
Ive googled and learned that I should ground myself before touching...
Thanks for your replies.
Well, I've been hearing (reading) a lot of people complaining about how bothersome it was to get the cables routed properly with the Antec P18* boards. (Okay, mostly with the old revision P180 without cable holes, but also some about the new revision and the 182.)...
Yeah, I need a case for my first ever build!
I was looking at the Antec P182, but I have decided its too challening for a first build. Ideally Id like something equally good, but more noob-friendly. In any case Id like it to be cool/have good air flow, and some kind of dust filters...
Okay thanks for your replies. :)
About the voltage/amps thing, I must admit I have no idea what a system like mine requires or how to find out. But you're saying that the Corsairs will be fine in that regard too, right? (Sorry if I'm asking a question you've already answered, just want to be...
