Best monitor for what? There is no best monitor for everything.

    What to get: 690 or 2 x 680 ?

If you are planning to run 3+ monitors then SLI 4GB cards would be the way to go. Otherwise I'd get the 690. I don't have GTX680 experience, but I just remove a pair of GTX580s to swap in a 690 (on water). There may be slight measurable performance differences between 680 SLI and a 690, but...

evga gtx690 signature series + backplate = dead card?

I just put a EVGA 690, EVGA backplate, and Koolance waterblock together yesterday. Screen went blank and PC locked shortly after installing the drivers. Fortunately I had AIDA64 up and saw the GPU temps were over 100 C. I took it all down again and saw that the blocks weren't touching the...

Asus to release the first 120hz IPS monitor?

And this morning I thought the only 27" 1080p IPS was the LG IPS277L. Now there are 3 on the way.

    3 x 26-27" Gaming Monitor Recommendation

New review of the LG out in the uk: http://uk.hardware.info/reviews/3116/lg-ips277l-bn-review-lgs-latest-generation-ips-monitor It looks pretty good, although the BenQ may be a better choice if you think you will play any FPS games (revised version). The LG has preorder info up but it...

There are plenty of page translation options. Here is one: http://www.microsofttranslator.com/bv.aspx?from=ko&to=en&a=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.playwares.com%2Fxe%2F23624550 The revision is actually a bit faster, surprisingly.

    Increase Digital Vibrance

If you haven't gone through test images to set monitor brightness, contrast, sharpness, color, and driver gamma; then I can guarantee you it is not accurate or "great". With the exception of the rare factory calibrated high end monitor, all monitors have distorted settings out of the box. If...

    Increase Digital Vibrance

I'm saying that default gamma may be wrong for your monitor. When gamma is too low, you loose all your "pop". It may illuminate your room, but it won't look bright and colorful. Go through those test images in order and adjust as needed. Season with a little vibrance if you like at the end...

    Increase Digital Vibrance

Your gamma is too low and/or your brightness too high. It looks like a mostly gamma issue which can also give washed out colors. Run through these tests with default vibrance, then add vibrance if you need to. I add a little vibrance (60ish nVidia) to help with colors in 3D, but if you need...

Ready to take the plunge: 27" + 3D?

Heh, I thought you gave up? If you are interested enough to poke around forums about it and can watch a 3D movie comfortably, it's a pretty safe bet that you will like it. Even if you don't, having a 120Hz monitor is a nice asset for a gamer. I've never seen a 3D PC demonstration so...

Ready to take the plunge: 27" + 3D?

Let's say in one version they code 2D clouds and put them in the background. That will look fine in 3D. 5 years later a new version of the same game is made, but this time the team put the clouds at screen depth. That might look fine in 2D but it would look stupid in 3D, ruining the...

Ready to take the plunge: 27" + 3D?

User reviews and forums are a better source than the main nVidia list. nVidia will only tell you how it looks out of the box. Some games can be "fixed" with simple tweaks and some are hopeless. Typically what will ruin a game is a mixture of 2d and 3d effects or objects, especially if they...

Ready to take the plunge: 27" + 3D?

Some don't care for it, but I think 3D can be worth the sacrifice in performance (fps) and resolution. Game compatibility is getting better, but some games are poorly encoded for 3D and not worth the trouble. Also the performance hit and input lag can be significant, so competitive FPS gaming...

Ready to take the plunge: 27" + 3D?

If you want to do games in 3D, nVidia 3D Vision is probably the easiest route. Right now the best 27" 3D Vision compatable monitor is the ASUS VG278H or HE, both TN 1080p monitors. If you aren't super picky about color fidelity I think they would be your best bet for 27" 3D. You might be able...

    3 x 26-27" Gaming Monitor Recommendation

I think he meant the LG DM2792D, which is the same monitor with different features. I'm in the same boat as Watter, setting up a new sim outfit with surround monitors. Originally I hoped to run 3x 1440p IPS monitors, 3x 30" monitors, or 3x 1080p 120 Hz TN monitors for 3D; but even quad...

    24" Widescreen CRT (FW900) From Ebay arrived,Comments.

I'll give my fixer-upper FW900 to anyone willing to pick it up in MI. It still has a nice image, but the occasional screen flashes during warmup promted me to move on before it fails. If I had access to repair options I'd have it refurbished, but from where I live it's too much trouble.

Agreed. Now that I have had some more time with it, banding is occasionally evident in the dark blue forest areas, but it's not nearly as severe as I see with photo work. I didn't mean to imply anyone should ditch their FW900s. I wish mine still worked. Some have had bad experiences with...

    24" Widescreen CRT (FW900) From Ebay arrived,Comments.

Yeah, I have seen good reviews of the Samsung and don't doubt that the image quality is a bit better than the ASUS. However, 1) I'm pretty invested in 3D Vision 2) I had 2 Samsung BluRay players die on me in less than a year, so I didn't really consider the Samsung monitors seriously. If you...

    ASUS VG278 setup

I just got my new VG278 setup. For those that don't feel like spending hours looking at test images, here ya go: Scenery Mode: Of the 6 modes available, Theatre, sRGB, and Standard are the best options. The settings will need to be different for each so if you dont choose Standard as I...

My FW900 is on the floor now and I've spent a few days with the GV278. At the risk of drifting OT, I thought I'd leave my impressions of the current best replacement option for those with dying FW900s looking for a 27" 120Hz 3d Vision capable monitor. I suspect many of you will be in the same...

    24" Widescreen CRT (FW900) From Ebay arrived,Comments.

It's been a good run, but my 10 yr old FW900 seems to be on it's last legs. For a few months it would pulse blue or green screens as my PC booted. This has gotten worse over time and the other day the screen turned itself off during the pulses. Fortunately manually turning it off and on again...

You cannot see any flicker at 100Hz or above with the nVidia glasses. Both nVidia tests should give you eye popping 3D effects without flicker or ghosting if you are set up correctly. Did you check the CRT OSD to confirm refresh rate? Sometimes you may set a resolution/refresh rate but the...

There is no sync adjustment. You could have any number of problems but you have to determine what the problem is before you can fix it. Run through those questions I listed. That should narrow it down. I'll help if I can but you may find the nVidia 3d forum or MTBS forums will have more...

What game, resolution, frequency? Did you check your monitor OSD to verify you have the correct refresh rate? Is the green light on the emitter? Did you go through the nVidia tests (both the setup test and medical image test)? The image separation on the setup test should look perfect. Same...

I still use 285.62 and 3D works fine at 1600x1000x110 or 1280x800x120. Ghosting is present to some degree depending on the game. Some games like TF2, Fallout, and The Witcher have very little. It will depend on your brightness and contrast setting. As stated earlier, bright objects like...

As you pick your custom resolutions, keep the hScan rate under 120 Hz and the pixel clock under 300. In some cases you can exceed those numbers and I read somewhere the pixel clock can do up to 380, but I don't like to push the monitor that hard. If you stick to those parameters you can do...

I suppose that's true. CRTs are a finicky, erosion prone technology and they are all 10 years old now. Even so, I am still waiting for a monitor I would consider better than my aging FW900. Unkle Vito, would you restore, tune, and ship a FW900 if it is in it's original packing?

    120Hz LCD Info Thread

I'm curious why you use a LCD for 3D gaming. For me the FW900 works great and its nice to be able to adjust the resolution depending on how demanding the game is to maintain a high minimum fps. On the other hand my FW900 pops occasionally and the screen pumps more than it used to with white...

I don't think 2304x1440 looks very good on the FW900 even with static images. I tried it for a while but 1900x1200 looks much better, at least on my unit. If you are displaying fast motion (games), 1600x1000x110 is better still.

You used this method?: "To get Win7 to accept it you will need to get to device manager/update driver software/browse my computer/let me pick/have disk." Do not use "search for drivers in this location". It will not work.
