Thanks for that in depth post Ashun. I had mentioned the same thing that I've seen on two of these displays now earlier in this thread, and was basically told my settings were wrong. Well with the correct settings it still happens. I use this monitor mostly for desktop work and coding, so it...
I don't think that's an option in either GPU settings for standard desktop resolution, to be able to set a resolution above the monitor resolution and downscale.
The option to scale either on the GPU or the monitor generally refers to upscaling, IE. if you have a 1080p monitor and you only have...
I'd actually be really interested if others here could try reducing the brightness and seeing if the smearing becomes apparent. I'd like to know if it happens on every screen or if there is still a bit of a panel lottery.
So I thought I'd post some of my experiences with this as a productivity and gaming monitor. I actually started with the Vizio 43" E-series one at Best Buy, which worked well enough, but actually had burn in issues with white backgrounds like you would have on a desktop. But both an open box and...
Did you change the User Agent in your browser? Use something like this: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/user-agent-switcher-for-c/djflhoibgkdhkhhcedjiklpkjnoahfmg?hl=en-US
Firefox 15 Windows seems to work well
Not sure if serious.
As to "who would get an AMD 8-core over a 2500k for $160", I raise my hand...
In any case, I agree that the case and power supply are poopy, but still seems like a decent price for the hardware.
Yeah they are super comfy.
As to the gaming, I did try it out a bit last night with Batman: AO, from my Fiio E7 USB Dac/Amp. I did notice the directional sound was ok, not great, it did jump slightly from in front to the side, and behind. But I assume a decent gaming soundcard would help...

I picked these up a few days ago. I like them... a lot. Not bass heavy, but you can hear the bass clearly, and well, everything else pretty clearly as well.
Anyways, these retailed for $300 about 2 years ago, I think they are...
The AMD or Intel chip? In any case, they're both quad-cores, so 8 cores obviously gives you some more breathing room.
I'll also point out that about a year ago on my i7 laptop, running a Windows VM wth more than 1 core enabled with Virtualbox caused a lot of slowdown. Pretty sure it was a...
I just saw they are also advertising an MSI 7950 for $130!!! after rebate.
But either they never had stock or they sold out immediately... all these deals are posted fresh on Friday AFAIK:
Link anyways http://www.frys.com/product/7815839?site=sa:adpages%20page:P16_FRI%20date:100413
I'm a...
I've called to complain about this. I'm in an apartment building, where my wife's Virgin Mobile (Sprint) phone works perfectly, while my AT&T phone drops calls and nobody can hear me.
AT&T suggested I buy the microcell for $200. Good deal!
As soon as the contracts up I would love to pick...
Troll? If not...
Why should we help you circumvent your parents?
There's probably a reason they're free. That being said, like jiminator said, TF2 is still a hugely popular multiplayer game, so have at it.
It seems you already sold it, but that is definitely a Sabertooth board you have in the Crosshair packaging...
anyways, hope you raise enough to pay off those bills. Hospitals suck :(
32gb is very legitimate for a lot of people. No, it's not for games, although I could see 4gb being a little limiting if you ever have anything else open while playing an intensive game.
Anyways... yeah, I'm glad 4gb is good for you. I would suffocate with 4gb :D
Why do people reply to a 6 month old thread with simple comments? I know it was an interesting topic, but I'm pretty sure if OP installed something on his old laptop, he did it months ago now...
When I installed Linux Mint 15, I had to start it in software only mode, as it seemed like there was a big incompatibility with the open source drivers and my particular MSI GTX 580. Not sure if it was because it has the MSI heatsink, or it's the 3gb model... no idea. But it would hard-lock...
I have friends who had a little trouble getting Crossfire 6950's and 7970's going, but one friend also has 6 monitors connected to the 7970's in Ubuntu. He said it was a little trouble getting the drivers installed, but afterwords it's working fine. They also talked about how Nvidia is the one...
This seems like a great deal, although if it runs that hot and needs a $60 cooler on it, I don't know if it's such a good deal... you might as well buy one with a better cooler for $40 more.
For any Steam games that aren't Linux based, I'd suggest using PlayOnLinux.
Also, make sure you get the updated version, you can follow these instructions: http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/ppa/playonlinux
I don't use everything PlayOnLinux has to offer, but I do use it for separated installations...
Good to hear Blacklash, not everyone has the same easy transition from Windows.
Also, if you're new to Linux, don't be afraid of the command line. It's your friend, not your enemy :D
Linux Mint is based off of Ubuntu, which is based off of Debian. They're both good for newcomers to Linux, although lately Linux Mint has been getting better reviews than Ubuntu.
When you go to check out Linux Mint, keep in mind that the different versions, Mate, Cinnamon, KDE, etc. are all...
I found it easier to set everything to non-UEFI, as it was a headache trying to get everything working correctly.
I actually did get it all set up in UEFI mode, eventually. But then about 2 weeks later, Windows 7 did an update, and knocked out the ability to get back into Linux. I couldn't...
