Me neither, mate. Or Bitlocker for that matter. I feel safe knowing that my data is encrypted.
Also, given that I'm in the IT field, joining an Active Directory domain is rather crucial for my needs. It's not really a debate for me. I'll always go with the "pro" version of Windows.
Here is the official page that talks about the feature list between 8.1 Pro and 8.1 Standard.

Windows 8.1 Pro adds:
Remote Desktop support
Bitlocker drive encryption
Join Active Directory domain (includes Group Policy support)
Alternatively, you could simply disable the drives in the BIOS / EFI firmware, then re-enable them after the OS installation is completed.
Do you have any disk encryption installed on your Windows XP drives? If so, you may need to disable that before you can access the data from Windows 7.
For those who are interested in a more advanced scenario, you can use diskpart to partition your hard drive, and then use dism.exe to extract the install.wim file from the \sources directory, on the installation media, to your target OS partition. Then, you use bcdboot.exe to configure the boot...
Scott,
Thanks for offering to talk to the call center for me.
I actually just got a call back (based on my voicemail) from a guy named "Curtis" who was extremely professional, told me the exact steps he was going to take on his side, and the steps I need to take in the next couple of days, in...
Hey folks,
Have any of you had problems getting through to Asus Technical Support? I recently submitted an RMA for a motherboard, and got a couple of e-mails within 12 hours with the RMA authorization and shipping label. Thankfully this part all went well, and the e-mail said that since my...
+1
Pretty sad. I would have recommended booting up to the Windows setup media, hit Shift + F10 to invoke a command prompt, then launch diskpart.exe. Once in an interactive prompt, use "list disk" to see if the disk is present. If it is, then you most likely have a "c" drive, but you can use...
I'd highly recommend running memtest86+. Sounds like bad RAM.

Here's a link to the latest Rapid Storage Technology (RST) driver, for both RAID and AHCI controllers, and the directions I typically use...
Well it turns out that I worked around the problem by using the "system restore" (ugh) DVD that was included with the system (Home Premium, not Ultimate Edition). Not happy about that, and Samsung Support refused to support their SSD + spindle hardware configuration when installing a "custom OS"...
Hey folks,
I just got a Samsung Series 5 ultrabook and went to install Windows 7 Ultimate on it. I removed all the partitions and went ahead with a standard installation of Windows 7.
After the machine rebooted, all I got was a constantly repeating "missing operating system" all over the...
I clocked my Asus P8P67 PRO & i5-2500K using the auto-OC-tuner in the UEFI configuration screens. After this, I started getting delay write failures in Windows, so I decided to reset everything back to defaults. Everything seems back to normal, however the power rail going to my SATA optical...
I just wanted to share the following factoids with the community regarding memory on the Asus P8P67 PRO motherboard.
1. The earliest version of the P8P67 PRO BIOS only allowed Windows 7 64-bit to recognize 4GB of memory, even though the BIOS itself and other utilities (eg. CPU-Z) showed 8192MB...
I am using 4x2GB Patriot Sector 5 1.65v memory @ 1.5 volts in the Asus P8P67 PRO with no problems. It did not require any special customization from me.
I believe that your memory WILL be suitable.
According to a couple reviews I read, the Asus UEFI implementation exceeds the quality of the other manufacturers. I'd say stick with the Asus P8P67 PRO ... it's what I have, and it rocks. You only need one NIC (most likely), and it's an Intel one.
I have the "double boot" ... in fact I'm pretty sure I've had that on various boards for years. It has to do with the electronic switch rather than the physical switch. I wouldn't worry about that. I have an Asus P8P67 PRO and mine does that too.
When the system POSTs, the warning LEDs will...
I mean, to be fair, I had a Realtek gigabit chip in my last P55 chipset mobo, and I never had any problems with that one. It's just a preference really ... probably doesn't translate into any enormous real-world differences.
Just thought I'd mention that, to clarify that I wasn't ragging on...
If I boot into the UEFI GUI, it says there is 4096MB of memory @ 1333Mhz. All 4 slots have the exact same type of memory stick. It showed up as 8GB in my Yorkfield configuration ...
Oh, here's something else ... CPU-Z's Memory tab says "Size: 8192 Mbytes" .... how come Windows is only seeing 4GB in the System Properties window? (Windows+Pause is kb shortcut)
I have 4x2GB Patrior Sector 5 DDR3 @ 1333Mhz RAM sticks. In my Core 2 Quad Q9300 + Gigabyte mobo configuration, it showed up perfectly fine as 8GB @ 1333Mhz.
On my new Asus P8P67-PRO board however, it's only showin up as 4GB total. I ran CPU-Z on it and all 4 RAM slots show filled properly...
The Asus P8P67 series of boards is great. I have the PRO edition and I just got Windows 7 64-bit up and running on a GPT disk, on the UEFI firmware. I won't claim to see noticeable performance improvements in disk I/O, although I think it makes sense to get familiar with the new technology and...
Corsair has just released a new P3 Performance Series SSD at CES 2011. A pair of these Marvell-based 6Gbps SSDs pushes 431MB/sec in write speeds and 886MB/sec read speeds according to ATTO.

I recently picked up the Sennheiser HD-280 PRO headphones. I had a cheap pair of $20 Sony headphones prior to that, and they let too much sound through. With my 280's, little sound gets through, and they're quite comfortable. Audio quality is excellent in my opinion, but I'm not really an...
Hey guys,
I use Media Monkey to copy music to my iPod Touch 3G 64GB. I opened iTunes, on two separate computers, to update the iTouch to iOS 4, and I keep getting the message saying:
iTunes cannot read the contents of iPod "iPod touch." Go to the Summary tab in iPod preferences and click...

All of the artists / albums show up under the "123" heading. I don't think it's a hardware issue at all, because it definitely senses where I am pressing, and other apps work just fine. The issue is that, even though I am pressing somewhere A-Z, all the music is under the "123" heading, so it...
It's under warranty yeah. I just bought it recently. The ony thing I can think of might be relevant is that a sync was interrupted part way through. Could this affect it?
Hey guys,
On my iPod Touch, the slider to quickly choose a song, artist, or album (on the right side of the screen) is stuck. If I try to use it to quickly change the first letter I'm browsing, it just pops to the top of the list (song, album, or artist), and stays there. Sliding my finger up...

Hey guys,
I figured out how to work it. You don't have to "pair" the devices, like you would with a computer. Instead, you just fire up an app that supports Bluetooth, and connect through the app.
Case closed :)
Cheers
-Trevor
How is explaining my reasoning for wanting to pair them going to help me get them paired?
Anyway ... the reason is that I want to play multiplayer games over Bluetooth, between both devices.
Hey guys,
I'm having an issue pairing up my iPhone 3GS 16GB, and iPod Touch 3G 64GB using bluetooth. Has anyone else run into such issues before, or attempted to pair both successfully?
Neither device seems to "see" each other, while Bluetooth is enabled, even though both of them say "Now...
Having previously owned, and loved, a Blackberry Curve, and now currently owning an iPhone, I am amazed at what I had been missing. If you're doing e-mail and web browsing primarily, I'd honestly say go with the iPhone. The Blackberry's web browser was handy, but gosh did the experience suck...
That worked great! Thanks! I feel kinda dumb now, cuz it was really easy ... I jsut hadn't explored that left-hand pane too much.
By the way, for the MM issue you mentioned you have, you should just be able to right-click the extra device and click "Remove Device" under Options --> Portable /...
I don't use iTunes, because I don't like the way it "syncs" stuff. I want to be able to add or delete content without "synchronizing" with a library. The first time I attempted to use it, it broke all of the 3rd party applications I had downloaded, so I swore never to use it again.
In Media...
