Yep, it's true. Some people say the 940 could work in an AM2+ board, but, as Untitledone says, memory control and pin layout would render the whole thing iffy. Unfortunately, I need then to look for and AM2+ board that holds 16 gig RAM, which is rare. It's time to dig at Newegg, Microcenter and...
Thanks Untitledone.
This is also what I was thinking. Yeah, the 940 is an A+ processor, as I understand, in fact is the last processor made for the A+ platform.
Thanks again.S.
Thank you all.
After extremely careful assemblage everything worked at first shot. It still works impecably. The MoBo is an MSI X58-GD45 with plenty of PCI-e slots, but only one PCI. There's no floppy in this computer because I didn't need any for the past 5 years. Since I bought the Cooler...
Well,
My reason for a bigger cooler stems from the behavior of the Phenom II 940 that I have in another computer. There, when I run my sequencer's orchestral tracks the temp of the processor goes from about 38 C to close to 60 C. And, believe me, I can say that there's an air current in the...
Thank you all. I'll procede to work on my i7 950 machine. The MoBo is an MSI X58A-GD45. It looks nice and complex and hope it's not DOA or some of its elements not working properly. I bought a big CPU cooler, since the stock is kind of a joke, considering the amount of data that will go through...
Thank you very much, mETRo. Another concern, derived from the first, is that becuase of the excessive pressure, the pins would be bent. Surely enough, by looking at them with a magnifier, they are not bent, but all in an angle, just like crops in the wind. This may make sense since in this way...
Hi.
This is my first Intel processor. Till now I was an AMD guy, but recently I realised that no AMD processor will do the job for the amount of data crunching that my tasks need. My question is a very simple one:
When trying to secure the processor in the socket by lowering the lever, the...
Hello.
I have this MoBo and I am putting it in another box. However, the box only has a power supply with 20+4 connectors. The 4 is in a separate socket. The MoBo has a 24+8 format, the 8 is in a separate socket (of course). The power supply, of 400W, is in perfect condition and I'd hate...
Here too,
Why most x58 boards are advertised as capable to host 24 GB RAM but hardly any can recognize more than 16, or at least that's what I see questions about in forums or on customer review pages such as Newegg's? And, what about Win7 Pro's recognizing only 16 GB; is that true or just...
Sorry for this double thread. My first posting was on the videocards pages, but it really belongs here.
1. Would this card run on Ubuntu 8.4-9.4?
2. Someone on Newegg says that the card runs flawlessly on XP 64 and AverMedia's Multimedia Center. Is this true?
Thanks, Sylva.
Hi all.
1. Anyone know whether this card can run on Ubuntu 8.4-9.4?
2. Someone on Newegg stated that it can run on XP 64 and its own Media Center software without any problem. Is this true?
Thanks, Sylva.
I inherited a box with an Abit AX78 MoBo + Win XP 64. The MoBo has 7.1 surround and it sounds great when listening to music or watching movies. But, when I am in Cakewalk's Sonar SH 6 XL (a digital music program) I get popping. No matter what I do, what combination of parameters I tweak in Sonar...
I installed the final beta m-audio drivers for this card. Win XP 64 sees the card, says it's working, no hardware conflicts. Get no sound at card output (breakout box + headphone amp both proven to be working on a 32 bit computer). Popped up Sonar which also seed the card with drivers active and...
Thanks Joe "Average" for the knowledgeable reply. I did programming professionally but it was 12 years ago and not in any really applications oriented language. Could you please indicate what would be some of the modifications? You don't need to give me the programming, just what kind of...
Is the Vista upgrade cd/dvd coming with both the 32 and 64 bit versions? I am running both XP32 and XP64 and thinking about upgrading to Vista 64 because some hardware manufacturers simply don't upgrade their products' drivers to XP64 but only Vista 64. This is mainly M-Audio, whose products I...
as I promised, I downloaded the newest drivers made in 2005. This tells me that Nvidia is a good co., unlike others that after 2-3 years of manufacture don't develop the drivers anymore.
However, the drivers max out at 1600x1024. No 1680x1050 or beyond. However, wide screen is honored. Go...
The card is an Nvidia Vanta LT. I'm going to do some digging of my own. This card has been traveling between my 3 old/upgraded computers and quite adequate with the w2207. Even with Win98 it fills up the entire wide screen, but the resolution is low. Maybe it has some updated 98 wide screen...
So, the numbers, as I wrote before, are bulk, however when setting resolution I used exact numbers of course (I always look them up). Yep, it's Win98SE. CRTs? Well... my last one died in 2002, emitting white smoke :) and I have never looked back since. I don't think Win98 maxes out at 1280x1024...
Windows 98 will recognize only up to 1080 x 1024 resolution, though the card goes up to 2500 x 1600 (these are of course bulk numbers). Everything else, colors, font scaling (though not everything because graphics are stretched somewhat), etc. is fine.
Sylva.
Sorry for the repeat.

Guys,
You may be laughing, but I have this question:
Anyone would know where I can find w2207 drivers for Windows 98? Yep, I still use it to navigate the Internet. It's more secure and I am not in Symantec's pocket. OK, some of you may plead contest, but for me it works :)
Yeah, HP...
Hi all,
I have a Shuttle AK32 MoBo. Now it's time for me to upgrade to 2GB DDR2100 but the site where I want to buy from does not contain the KT266 set on its list of high density memory drivers. So the question remains whether the KT266 will drive high density DDR.
Your answer will VERY...

Your answer will VERY MUCH be...
The color fading you have I also have, and it's because of the TN technology used for this monitor. Any TN will color fade to a more or lesser extent from top to bottom. Though I do photo and film work on it, it doesn't bother me much since colors depend on what you have in the original file...
Guys,
I think many of you are missing the point. The ONLY thing I wanted to show was that for the same diagonal you get less real estate on a 16:9 than on a 4:3:5 monitor. I was NOT talking about resolution, pixel pitch or any other monitor properties. If I wanted that I could've, since I have...
This is about LCD panels, not CRTs.
Just the other day I was visiting some offices and noticed some really big monitors. They turned out to be traditional 4:3 20"ers, but I was really surprised at how big they looked even though their bezel was rather narrow. Then I went home and had to admit...
As far as colors and brightness, contrast, etc.: my left eye sees brighter than the right one. Therefore, I get a composite image of the two when watching anything. Now, we all have eyes, but trust me, none of our eyes will see the spectrum the same way. Eye constitution, refraction of light in...
Granted, if two manufacturers use the same panel the monitor's display image should look pretty close. However, then all monitors should be equal which is not the case. What makes the difference is not only the kind and quality of coating but some other engineering choices such as the design of...
According to behardware's http://www.behardware.com/articles/667-1/samsung-226bw-a-and-s-series-the-verdict.html page the w2207's panel is a Samsung manufactured LTM220M1 mostly used in its S 226bw monitor.
This more than annuls this thread's perpetrator's opinion that the w2207 is crap. I...
Yeah,
It may happen that you had a unit from a bad batch here. This is a matter of QC for HP to deal with. Couldn't they see it? Of course, it may be the panel's manufacturer's QC that's faulty, but it may also be that something went bad during manufacturing of the adjacent electronics that...
Great post Mansize and you have my total agreement. I more than agree that he's probably come across a defective monitor or badly adjusted from out of the box and has not caught up yet to the "art" of configuring and adjusting. Indeed, we're doing super in this thread.
ScYcS: I also tried...
Yeah, on my monitor letters are also crystal clear, I mean my eyes almost hurt, they're so clear. I need glasses for distance so don't need any for closeups. One tip I can give you is to use FireFox which has a large gamut of text magnification/reduction steps when pressing Ctrl/+ or Ctrl/- In...
It's interesting that some of you guys are having problems with purplish letters. I never had any, at least with this monitor. Could you fill me in please? What resolution is the monitor set to? But anyway, I never had this problem at any resolution.
Those in the US, if you want massive...
Mansize: wait till you get the new parts. Many times laptops' videos are inadequate for the latest monitors. The 22"ers are not renowned for their non-native resolution performance, though I tell ya, the w2207 is quite good at 1280x1024 with a card that has enough memory, say 128MB and a 500MHz...
I'm saying this because it much depends on one's eyes and each of us have them different. I found setting both to 75 satisfying. However, even so I kept looking for a better compromise. I went into quick view and pressed Custom without doing anything to the colors and then I saved and exited...
This monitor should have absolutely NO flicker. 1:1 adjustment is near perfect on mine. Get it replaced.
Flicker wise: what light is your monitor near by? Since refresh rate is 60 Hz the monitor's emitted light many enter into resonance with your lighting's 60 Hz frequency. With LCDs this...
I still can't get over the colors and the sharp image contours. Remember, I have my old LCD beside this one partly as a reminder of where I am coming from and partly to save it from overusage. There, another thing, of the other 3 computers none have digital video so I need the old monitor anyway...
Get a friend near to you and try push him, her out of their standing position. You'll find that it's rather muscle consuming. However, when your friend got going it's easier to kip him going. When a car starts moving you have to press down deeper on the accelerator than when already moving. So...
So you finally threw in the towel :) I know you've been waiting for a long time. How much is this thing in the UK? Does the price vary from say Brighton to London?
