Oh another thing - I really appreciate that Napp-It now includes a VMWare ESXi template - this makes it so much incredibly easier to set up and maintain.
Thanks for your response _Gea - I think you are entirely correct about the newer version of ZFS having less leniency with remaining free space calculations.
The remaining space was approximately 1% - speeds were actually pretty good (2 vdevs of 10 drives each in RAIDZ2). I never had any...
I decided to upgrade my old All-in-one ESXi machine from Openindiana 151a to the latest OmniOS (151018 I think). However, I've run into a problem...when I import my pool (RAIDZ2 10x 2TB + RAIDZ2 10x 3TB hdds), it reports 0 bytes free! While in OI151a, it reports 262 GB. Deleting files doesn't...
You could try MacType and the uninstall it if it doesn't work for you.
With that said - I believe MacType avoids using subpixel rendering and uses traditional anti-aliasing. When I was using it I actually liked it a lot - particularly when I rotate my monitors or when I use my projectors, which...
The best IPS display I've used is my iPad 3 monitor (the panel with eDP controller). Blows away my Dell U2211M, which has terrible AG coating that blurs everything, temporal dither from the 6 bit FRC. My old 2005 NEC 20WMGX2 also blows it away - glossy screen, deep blacks (for an IPS), and...
Looks like it should work according to: http://ca.startech.com/Cables/Audio-Video/DisplayPort/10ft-Mini-DisplayPort-to-DisplayPort-Adapter-Cable-Male-to-Male-Mini-DP-to-DP~MDP2DPMM10
Good price too!
In theory, modifying the SIMULATE_* registry entries should let you modify the 'safe' resolution to be much larger - like 3840x2160. But it didn't work for me - probably because of MST. What happens when I turn off my 4K monitor then turn it on again, is that the windows get shoved into a...
Interesting hack - it doesn't seem to work for me though with my Dell UP2414Q. :(
Maybe it's because it uses MST...and I have multiple monitors too. Oh well.
Heh, I swapped my 15 footer DP cable (from Cables Wholesale) to a 10 footer from Accel and a 3 foot DP extension cable from startech. It seems to work better - I discovered that the 15 foot DP cable doesn't have a properly designed latch, so it's a little loose in the socket. The Accel cable is...
My (old) Samsung S3 has image retention. Entirely my fault - I should know better than to use it as a GPS with full brightness in a car in bright sunshine for months and months. :)
Other (newer) OLED phones/tablets actually orbit the pixels to try to prevent permanent image retention. Who...
Alexis, that post on fredmiranda.com is spot on.
The Dell UP2414Q is advertised as being 10 bit. But of course, this is not really true at all since it can only accept 8 bit RGB input as far as I know (I do not have an NVIDIA Quadro or similar card to test). The panel I believe is specified to...
Excellent rant, Astral Abyss! Edge-lit TVs is right up there with touch-less soap dispensers that flooded the market a few years ago (and none of them worked).
Alexis, you can play games at lower resolutions in full screen if you switch the monitor to DisplayPort 1.1. However, you cannot go higher than 1920x1200 and get 60 hz.
But this is on my NVIDIA videocard and Windows 7/8 - AMD cards may behave differently.
Keep in mind the UP2414Q does not...
On the UP2414Q I hardly see any aliasing - until the scene moves! But I see those jaggies even with 4xMSAA too. The biggest problem is the crawl/moire effect which is easily seen even on the UP2414Q - but I see those at 1080p as well unless the game has a setting to reduce them - and that needs...
Huh - for some reason I wasn't allowed to create a custom resolution for my 4K display - however, it is using MST and that is probably why.
Although, I swear it was working before...maybe the 344.80 (hotfix) drivers I'm running broke something...again.
It is quite high unless you use game mode - I would guess between 60-100 ms!
With that said, if you use the trick to put it in Game mode, then immediately switch to the mode you really want (ie. SRGB or AdobeRGB preset), it appears to retain the speed of Game Mode. At least on my A00 revision...
Anyhow, it's too bad the XL2420G is no different than my XL2411Z for poor default settings. When I first got the XL2411Z it looked exactly as bad as you described it! Stupid gamer settings...pffffft.
Thanks for the review!
From what I read, the levels issue should only affect displayport if the driver/card detects it as HDMI. That may be dependent on the monitor (EDID I presume), as implied in the article I linked. I do not have any issue with levels on my Dell 4K monitor at any resolution and refresh rate over...
This article makes reference to "colour signal". Solutions included:
https://pcmonitors.info/articles/correcting-hdmi-colour-on-nvidia-and-amd-gpus/
(I've been using solution 3 for a few years now - I use my PC as an HTPC occasionally).
What is this colour signal bug?
You're not referring to the HDMI video levels "feature" are you, where if HDMI is detected, the NVIDIA card will clamp 0-255 output as 16-235? If so, there is a registry patch for that. Although that affects all refresh rates, not just 60.
Some games force 60 hz in fullscreen mode. You may wish to check other forums to see if the game has config files you can modify to force the resolution and refresh you want.
Hmm interesting - on my XL2411Z, if I am off angle quite a bit vertically, a white image will shift to orange. If yours doesn't do that that's a huge improvement!
My IPS monitors will lose brightness at off angles.
Thanks for the observations!
I have a Dell UP2414Q - 24 inch 4K IPS monitor - it only supports MST when doing 4K@60 hz. Originally my PC had a geforce 670 and I was able to play older games at 4K - Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, Unreal Tournament, Left 4 Dead 2, Enslaved (GREAT GAME get that on the next steam sale if you can)...
