In terms of retaining color, I`d absolutely recommend NEC monitors but I will warn that they`re pricey (and that while I`m perfectly happy to use them for gaming, they *are* 60Hz IPS panels with less-than-perfect response time).
General type: IPS, 8-bit-input/hardware-calibrated via 10-bit LUT...
Not endorsing 7.1 headphones, but it's simply not true. Human hearing has significant directionality - including on the vertical axis (unlike, say, dogs - which have to tilt their heads to obtain information on that axis).
The real question is how well a given pair of multichannel directional...
For gaming, quad's not worth it.
I've got a Q6600 @ 3.2 GHz (lower-than-stock voltage, the heatsink is the Noctua NH-U12F, very quiet and max load temp is <55C in an Antec P182). It's amazing. But...for gaming, almost nothing uses the multiple cores.
The real benefits of quad are media...
It was late. I forgot.
+to my restrictions: Kill Martyr, kill Last Stand.
hm...anyone else noticed that the "unload mod" screen says "Lanuch without mods" instead of "Launch"?
This is what hardcore _should_ have been:
Hardcore+
No UAV/Airstrike/Chopper.
Limited spawns/round (at least as an option, 1 - Last Man Standing)
Some decent gear restriction options (eg. no nades, no grenade launcher attachment)
I'd probably play 5-10 times more than I do now if this was how...
I don't particularly like the whole phase-lane system. It's perfectly acceptable, yes, but I'd love a 4X game in the Starfire universe.
I've attempted to bring a couple things into line with this, by abusing scale to make anything but wormholes impractical, and linking all systems with wormhole...
1. Your post(s) suck. Do better next time.
2. I'm running at 1920X1200 with a near-identical setup. Max settings, 16XAniso, No AA. Runs fine (60 ish fps) except when I run into the smoke bug (smoke nade's smoke fails to dissipate, I take a huge framerate hit). How does this compare to your...
Uh...fewer caps please.
Also: Nothing "requires" a PCI Express 2.0 x16 Slot. A PCI Express x16 slot is all (and that's only strongly recommended, not required).
Warhammer - Fantasy (eg. Medieval, but with magic, orks, mutants, etc)
Warhammer 40k - 38'000 (I think?) years in the future. Still has orks, mutants, etc, but also shiny tech.
Eh, I like it. Sorta like Oblivion's hires pack. I think this is the first compelling reason to upgrade to 64-bit I've seen. Dual booting, here I come...
Sure, I've got 4GB RAM installed (3GB in 32-bit XP), but that last 1 GB doesn't feel at all necessary or usable yet.
Just my experience of BioShock:
No Vsync, no triple buffering = fine, but tearing
Vsync, no triple buffering = "mouse lag"
Vsync, triple buffering = happiness
Also: They really gave you too much ammo...I would've been happier with ~1/3-1/2 the ammo.
...Do enlighten me, please. I've looked, and the options list is pretty sparse.
Edit: When you launch the mod warfare, the unlaunch button says "Lanuch without Mods" ... erm. And the game's been out how long now?
Edit2: I think I understand now: You have to use the ModWarfare mod, edit it to...
COD4 with proper server options would make me happy right now:
1. FFA Last Man Standing.
2. Ability to restrict equipment lists, like in R6: RavenShield (eg. no 'nades, no martyr, no grenade launchers if one was so inclined)
3. Better general game customization: Spawn time changes in all...
The big thing I want is character focus possibilities.
For example, in the upcoming Warhammer Online: It appears the Sorceress/er class may be able to pull this off, at least possibly.
While most people will choose balanced survival and damage output, I really, really enjoy heavily focused...
After getting used to it, I'm loving my (oldstyle) G5. Some people might miss the forward button, I don't.
True, middle-click is a little..."off" what with side scrolling. As in, it's near-impossible to center-click without side-scrolling at once.
Happily for me, I never need to have both...
Yeah, it does. It's tolerable for me, though. (And isn't the lag introduced a function of graphics power? As in, the higher your "native" framerate, the less lag?)
It's just _way_ worse with only vsync.
Um...Triple buffering, in my experience, fixes input lag induced by vsync. I don't know why, just my experience.
UT2k4 was unplayable with Vsync and no triple buffering. Huge input lag.
With triple buffering, it's perfectly playable.
1. $1000 = [email protected], 4GB RAM, 8800GT, good PS/MB/Case. I just did this. Assumes you don't need monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers.
Not including speakers with either (other than whatever's in the displays...)
2. $1000 = C2D@~3.x, 2GB RAM (but why go with only two when RAM is ~$12.50/GB right...
Uh...
You think you need the newest graphics card? If so, yeah, PC gaming will be more expensive. Thing is, you don't. Many people only upgrade every few years, similarly to console gamers.
Also, the 8800GTX, which you could have gotten over a year ago, is still pretty much top of the line. 2...
Q6600 @ 3.2 (356X9), 1.264V [which is default voltage]. HSF = Noctua NH-U12F, can't hear it over the system fans (default medium in an Antec P182). At 100% CPU, 48C is the normal temperature. Prime95 multicore stress brings the cores up to 56C.
Currently with 2GB OCZ Gold XTC DDR2-800, more...
I'm currently really using my Q6600 ~fully for the first time now.
I'm running two instances of flam3, a fractal rendering program. I'm rendering 540-frame animations, ala "Electric Sheep" [but high quality]. Rendering at 1920X1200, with nice quality settings, it takes ~15 minutes/frame for...
My situation is thus:
I have a 600 MHz PIII laptop in one room, along with a Zoom H4 recording device. The laptop is not really fast enough to record with, though. The H4 acts as an in/out usb sound card, as well as having pretty decent dual mics built in.
In other rooms, I have several...
HDMI->DVI is a straight pin remapping. Precisely identical other than the pin-outs, so same signal is transferred.
Sorry, I don't have any next-gen consoles. When running non-native res though, it tends to just put black bars on the sides, running at the correct aspect ratio but scaling to...
It _really_ depends on the game. For example, Supreme Commander performance scales up quite nicely with CPU power, as there are a lot of CPU calculations to perform, what with the large number of units. Most games are not so computationally intensive, however.
You're right, mostly. Generally...
Seems like I'm doing pretty much on par.
737/1836/1800 on the 8800GT, 356X9=3.2GHz on the Q6600.
3DMark Score 14177 3DMarks
SM 2.0 Score 5982 Marks
SM 3.0 Score 5645 Marks
CPU Score 4979 Marks
Well, not quite the mainframe->15" laptops jump...
The thermal output of these is still going to be huge. That necessitates significant cooling hardware, which means that a quad-socket 64-core box is still going to need to have a certain amount of cooling applied.
It will be nice to have...
Dammit!
But yeah, my sarcasm detector doesn't need repair. I just plain don't have one. Well, thanks for pointing that out.
Perhaps that can be my next upgrade....along with some neural nanonics, thanks.
I just upgraded from a 128MB ATi Radeom 9800Pro (256-bit XD) and AMD 2500+ to a 512MB 8800GT and Q6600. And I'm on a 1920X1200 monitor.
I'm actually about to turn this computer off to rip out the cd-drive so I can install windows.
I am anticipating significant improvements.
Perhaps people...
Actually, except when buying new hardware (and I'm actually a rather low-thoroughput buyer) I do ignore the hardware and just game.
Upon install, minor tweaks and then into the game without worrying about hardware for weeks or months.
But then, I'm not unhappy with the state of PC gaming...
Oh god yes! Not _that_ was a rhythm game! I miss parappa...so much better than, well, pretty much every other rhythm game.
Personally, I'd like a locked-camera-angle but 3D-rendered Diablo III. Well, 2D'd be okay, as long as the resolution was high enough that zoomed in 1920X1200 was "native".
Well, once we "max" out graphics quality [Which for me means total quality at 2560X1600 - at least] there are still a few "brute force" methods of attracting customers.
1. Physics.
2. Content - eg. textures, models, etc - these will still take a fair bit of creating. While art direction and...
Well, even if we cut out pirating, systems like iTunes where you can buy tracks without buying the whole album would have killed sales.
If I can buy the 1-3 songs I like off an album without paying for the rest of it, I won't buy the whole album - simple as that.
Because traditionally in...
