    New/current 12V v2.3x PSUs compatible with older v2.01 motherboards?

If it failed the paper clip test, it's obviously dead. That Antec rep should quit his job and sweep sidewalks instead, and you just send that PSU for RMA.

    Cooler Master G550M 550W Power Supply Review @ [H]

Well, some of CM's PSUs are manufactured by Seasonic. Tho that's in the higher end product lines.

    ATX to AT Adapter Problem

AFAIK, AT PSUs weren't used with Pentium II systems. Those use ATX standard. At least the Pentium II mainboards I had were all ATX.

Power Supply lifespan. When to replace?

Why would you want a 1 kW PSU for a system that normally pulls something like in the ~300W range? It's complete overkill.

    EVGA 430W Power Supply Review @ [H]

Every time I see HEC mentioned, I get that "is that thing gonna pass, I wonder" feeling. I know that they actually can do fine if they put their mind to it (the "real" Cougar), but often it just ends up in a "meh" or it fails.

    LEPA MX F1 600W Power Supply Review @ [H]

Wow, and for a period of time, LEPAs used to be good because they were Enermax units in disguise. But this is just bad beyond belief. I would see this coming from a shady off-brand manufacturer, but this was a bit of a surprise.

    Corsair CX750 750W Power Supply Review @ [H]

Well, good RMA procedures apart (which I can't confirm, since I don't have to deal with the manufacturer directly in my country, because the e-tailer is responsible for honoring the warranty in its entirety), I have to say it has no place here. I can get the XFX ProSeries Core 750W for the...

    Corsair CX750 750W Power Supply Review @ [H]

It'll be fine as long as your not loading it to its limits in a very hot case. Which I'm guessing is very unlikely.

    Corsair CX750 750W Power Supply Review @ [H]

Their higher end stuff is fine, albeit somewhat pricier than what you can get from the competition. But I have to be honest, there is no reason for me to even consider buying their lower end PSUs. There's just better to be had from other manufacturers. So there it can seem like they're...

Thermaltake Toughpower 1200W Gold Power Supply Review @ [H]

I guess the low price saves it. TT hasn't been known for low prices through the years, so at least there's that.

Cooler Master GXII 650W Power Supply Review @ [H]

It's kinda sad. A lot of CM's stuff is now good compared to times past, but then we get this... I mean, if you're going to compete in the lower end, at least make sure your stuff is on par or at least close to other larger brands that compete in the same segment with decent units. If it...

It'll be plenty. Rig will draw somewhere between 200-250W typically at load.

    Seasonic S12G-Series: S12G-550 Power Supply Review @ [H]

Yeah, 550W is plenty. You're looking at roughly 300W on average at max load.

    Enermax Revolution X't 730W Power Supply Review @ [H]

Sad to see good brands fall in the the sea of mediocrity. It's happening far too often today. Good thing we still have brands like Seasonic themselves who will normally not compromise.

    Corsair AX vs RM

Enermax often employ outside OEMs to make their PSUs. I've seen Enermax branded PSUs from Sirfa and CWT. This week Oklahoma Wolf over at JG reviewed a CWT made Enermax PSU, and frankly it wasn't very good. There were some QC issues and the price vs performance ratio was not very impressive.

Are the Corsair CX series a risk?

If you really don't need a 750W, I'd do as suggested above and go for a lower wattage higher end unit. A guy I know uses a CX600 with an i7 3770k and a GTX680, and it's been fine for about a year and a half, but then again, he doesn't even load it 50%. Still, his rig is fine after that...

The current HX650 is based on the seasonic G-series as far as I can see. Which is a different platform than the X.

    Corsair CS550M 550W Power Supply Review @ [H]

I always think fondly of my older HX (and my TX PSU which found another home) series PSUs and shed a little tear when I see stuff priced at these levels, but with dwindling quality of the innards. The old days were indeed the better ones.

PC Power & Cooling Silencer Mk III 750W PSU Review @ [H]

I realize a lot of people are brand loyal, but tbh, PCP&C haven't been anything "special" since 2007/2008. Even if the brand goes away, there are so many other excellent manufacturers on the market.

    Corsair RM750 750W Power Supply Review @ [H]

Yeah, I remember an NZXT unit a while ago which was built by Seasonic, but didn't really perform well. But we all know that Seasonic does PSUs extremely well, but if NZXT asked them to cut corners then that's what they did, and ultimately it's NZXT's reputation on the line because it's their...

be quiet! Anyone know about this PSU brand?

If you are pathologically obsessed with fan noise, it's probably for you. ;) Otherwise, any other PSU classifed as quiet will do. They're fine, but nothing exceptional.

    New GTX 770 Gigabyte PSU

The GTX770 draws about 180W by itself under max 3D load, if you take the time to look at the picture i provided in the link. The 42A requirement is for a whole rig, and then they take into account that people have bad PSUs that claim to deliver more than they actually can. So 460W can...

    New GTX 770 Gigabyte PSU

The GTX 770 uses about 180W at peak 3D load The 460W PSU could very well be enough, though you may need PCIe splitters if the PSU doesn't have the required connectors. If you do get a new PSU and you have a Dell computer, make sure it can take off the shelf PSUs and hasn't got any proprietary...

    Power for a 290X

It'll be fine. The 290X is a power hog (about 280W on its own), but even with a 750W you'll have power left over with good margins.
  26. J

    Bad PSU

247W is what a high end card consumes, like the Radeon R9 290X or GeForce Titan. A HD6870 consumes at worst 127W under 3D load, or up to 160W under Furmark. (According to TPU). The 247W figure you saw is for an entire computer, most likely.

PSA to not forgot to replace your PSU every few years

My Seasonic M12-II 430W in my HTPC has been running almost 24/7 since March 2009. Granted, the maximum load it sees is about, say 110-120W when I play some 3D games on that rig, but normally that rig is only playing video, so it's not taxed alot. My HX750 in my main rig has been running...

    Corsair HX1000 went POP

Actually, fans consume only a few watts each, so it's one of those components that don't really load the PSU.

    Powersupply recommendation?

Wow, that's bad luck. I've seen people having their old PSUs replaced with recent models, but sometimes it doesn't happen I guess. Yeah, just sell it off. It's old, relatively inefficient and a good excuse to get something new.

Corsair Announces Ultra-Quiet RM Series Power Supplies

That'd be great. That way I can ride on my PC to and from work. My office PC sucks (they won't get me a new one yet), and many times I wish I had my home PC at work.

    Powersupply recommendation?

At least when you RMA the HX1000, you'll most likely get one of the recent PSUs in the same wattage class (HX1050 Gold) since the HX1000 is long since EOL.

Going from a 85% to a 90% effecient PSU worth it?

Monetary savings depends on how long your computer is turned on, how much it uses at idle, how much it uses at load, when you use it for heavy tasks, what you're paying for your electricity... It's really not that straightforward. Personally it'd be so little I wouldn't bother.
  34. J

7870 too much for 400W Corsair PSU? (Computer shutting off)

According to TPU, a HD7870 uses around 115W under max 3D load. So with the 95W max for the CPU and maybe 50-60W on average for the rest of the system, you shouldn't even be near the max capacity of the PSU.
  35. J

    PSU wattage label

Also keep in mind that efficiency isn't a fixed number, it varies depending on the load you put on the PSU. Any decent PSU is most efficient at 50-70% load, then it drops off a bit after that. But maybe you already were aware.
  36. J

    Is Corsair HX520 enough?

TPU measured the GTX470 to abouy 170W at max 3D load. So with everything else you'd probably be looking at 300W average from the PSU or so.

    GS800

AFAIK yeah, the GS series has been known to make strange sounds when starting/stopping the fan. Not sure if they all do it, but I've seen people around the net that have complained about it.

Cheap power supply in my new iBUYPOWER Supreme TG931SLC

Well, it's probably already supplying dirty power to your rig as it is, as these PSUs are trash. After a while stuff will fail, and you'll have to send the PC back, and they'll probably replace any broken components but not the PSU (unless that goes under first). I'd just contact the PC...

I've got nothing but good experiences with Corsair. But of course, if you had a bad experience, your opinion will be colored by that fact. But just don't assume just because you are unhappy, that everybody else is.
