I
don’t think there has been any new, hardware based X-Fi card since forever. Your receiver/external DAC, there are some nice new ones with remote control. Also, have you considered buying a PCI to PCI-E adapter of sorts to use your older PCI soundcards?
You could drill some holes in the wall for the tubing to pass through. PC stays with you on the desk, the rad and fans are in the next room.
Or put everything on the next room and pass some cables for USB, DP/HDMI and etc. through the wall. Total silence.
But I want to be color accurate. Money isn’t an issue for myself. I just want the best PQ possible. Just hoping the AW over time will be easier to calibrate instead of being compromising. I guess I don’t want to compromise.
I wish there was a clear guide on what software and hardware are needed to calibrate a unit like the AW and run it optimally. I guess eventually someone will create a guide like that. I don’t mind calibrating. I’ve had 5 FW900’s and spent hundreds of hours over the past 6-7 years calibrating...
Ok I saw the classy review. Yeah it looks like at least through the menus and modes, you can’t totally calibrate it to perfection. Waiting for LG or maybe even Sony to release a full version, with backend that allows you to tweak any setting you want
What equipment is needed to calibrate the AW for max PQ and accurate colors? Assuming time isn’t an issue.
The Samsung variant, it’s probably the same thing with a different badge.
So I guess this monitor really can’t be calibrated all that well for color accuracy.
Is there a competing QD OLED monitor that’ll be on the market soon? Is see a few from Asus, what about those?
How does this compare to a well calibrated FW900? I’ve recently moved to a new city and need a new monitor that can at least match the FW900.
Can the Alienware be color calibrated on a hardware level sorta like what you can do with the Sony CRT’s? Meaning you calibrate the color across all...
Yes it makes sense. Creative left out the “desynchronize” button where in windows XP you could set the Creative panel on 2.1 or Headphone mode, while keeping windows on 5.1 or 7.1. In Vista and after you’d need to put windows CP on 5.1/7.1 then go into Creative panel and select headphone...
Yeah I’d imagine when they designed these cards the intended user would be at most using something like the HD600 or at that level of equipment. They never intended for their cards to be paired with higher end gear. Still, there are clear benefits when using CMSS3D in headphone and 2.1 mode...
It’s only a problem in games. I of course don’t use CMSS3D outside of games. And that’s when the muffled, tin can sounding issue comes into play. Everything just sounds clearer and crisp without CMSS3D. But the trade off is less positional accuracy.
For music, movies, just general media I...
I’ll give it a shot later. But what about the SQ being more muffled and weird in CMSS3D + headphone mode (or even in 2.1 mode)? Is there anything we can do to tweak that?
Old thread: now I have a RME ADI-2 DAC with a HD800S. Sounds great.
Tried playing with CMSS3D again: it sounds like I’m inside a tin can. Headphone mode, 2.1 mode, 5.1, 7.1 all sound better without CMSS3D, crystal clear. But technically speaking CMSS3D should be better for games.
Is there...
I remember playing TDU in 2010. Just riding a motorcycle at max RPM across Hawaii in one of those long distance race, with my own music in the background. Never had such simplistic fun.
Yeah that’s my thinking. Some sort of steel chassis with all the holes sealed and a lot of dampening materials. Been looking for one that’s bigger than mid size but on the right track. Looks like Fractal leads this game as per some of the reviews and comments on their Define series. Won’t use...
I’ve tinkering with the idea of making a new build. Probably a Ryzen 3800x or better with a full size ATX or EATX x570 board, re-use my 1080ti along with soundcard, hard drives, etc.
I’ll be going for one of those bulky air cooler if possible and run 1-2 CPU fans at low speed rather than use...
First time firing up Unreal and watch the demo flyback was insane. The first monster you meet in a corridor after all the lights turn off was amazingly spooky.
5870. Much better than whatever NV was offering at the time. But a bit unstable.
GTX 680. Low power, great performance. New era of efficiency.
1080 TI. For my needs if I had a better CPU then I’d already have a perfect machine.
I’m not using any LUT. Anything outside of movies work fine. Games, desktop, YouTube etc.
I’ll try the disable gou gamma ramps.
0-255 seems to be advised against from what I’ve read. Blacks are crushed when I’m in 0-255.
For those who watch movies using their CRT: I’m using MadVR with JRiver as the player.
Using 16-235 color setting in MadVR produces great visuals in most HD+ rips that I have. But the annoying thing is that for some rips, the black bars are more gray than black.
If I adjust the blacks to be...
Checked up all the posts from 2019. Seems like there’s much renewed interest in CRTs as of late. Amazing!
I think Vito has retired since 2018. We exchanged a few messages last year. He’s trying to get into some new business. When I’m less busy, I’ll try to entice him on one last attempt to find...
I see. Is there a version of the DPU3000 that supports dvi, not just vga? I have a dvi-5bnc cable for the fw900, should be superior to the vga-5bnc that I’m using.
Has there been a better adapter than the Sunix DPU3000? Haven’t kept up with this thread?
Also, in my experience, the adapter loves even numbers for refresh rates. I’d get wavy lines occasionally and blank screen where I’d be required to restart and reconnect the adapter. This was when I was...
Also, here’s a good tip for those using Sunix adapters (forgot what the other brand is called but they’re essentially the same thing):
if you experience image doing that whole buzzing thing or occasionally blanking to black (I only experience this in prime mode aka 1900x1200 @ 85hz), just run...
I have 4 FW900s. Actually I had a 5th one — my first ever 12 years ago. A year 2000 unit. But it had arcing issues that Sony wasn’t able to repair and they threw it out. It was a very bright unit and if fixed (vito later told me he could have saved it) it would have been amazing. Wish I had met...
