I have an Antec Solo Plus 550 (same case, different color and PSU), and the hard drives get pretty hot without the 92mm fans in front.
I ended up adding 2 92mm fans up front, 2 more 80mm fans (zip tied to the 5.25 bay) to push cool air to the CPU HSF. My video card is huge (4870) and was...
I usually leave my machine on, its not a huge issue, but I tend to reboot at least once a day, and just started noticing it resetting to defaults (not every time).
It doesn't do this when I have it on my 3.61Ghz stable settings. (Notably MCH voltage, CPU vCore, and PLL voltages are all...
Okay, still having issues... at 3.77Ghz it's stable 24 hours w/ Prime95, 10/10 Intel Burn test... yet if I reboot a lot, sometimes it has trouble posting and resets to default settings.
Same issue as Copyright... anyone have any ideas about that? I've bumped it back down to 3.61Ghz because I...
I play Mass Effect with everything turned up and 8x AA forced in Catalyst, with no lag or slowdowns. Gaming rez is 1680x1050. Rig is in the signature.
I'd say for 1680x1050, the sweet spot would be the 4870s or 260gtx core 216. Both are similarly priced right now.
Running Intel Burn Test, I hit 69C max on Core 0 in RealTemp.
Passed 10/10 runs @ 3774Mhz!
I think this is good enough for me... I don't want to go over 70C. The voltage is 1.275 in BIOS and 1.248 in CPU-Z.
Prime95 load @ 55C (57C Max)
IBT load @ 67C! (69C Max)
So prime95 currently 7 hours stable and running... going to let it keep going. I did some research on CPU PLL, this is what I found:
All clock circuits have a certain amount of jitter. Increasing the clock speed results in the jitter increasing also. By raising the PLL voltage the noise...
Wow this is so weird, but at the suggestion from googling my exact board and chip, I decided to raise CPU PLL one tick. (Have no idea what that does btw)
This is what I set my BIOS for 444FSB X8.5 = 3774Mhz, DDR2-1066 (444x2.4 = 1066):
******Motherboard Voltage Control******
Load-Line...
Okay I added a fan to the northbridge and intake in my 5.25" bay to blow cooler air over the CPU.
I want to try to make this work.
What settings should I use?
Here my current settings to get 3.61Ghz stable 24hour prime blend.
******Motherboard Intelligent Tweaker (M.I.T.)******...
Tried different dividers, no help.
Upping MCH allowed me to boot, but soon got BSODs. I'm thinking its the 8GB of RAM, but I need the RAM since I run multiple Virtual Machines for testing. I guess I can live with 3.61 ghz 24/7 stable @ 1.25 Vcore.
thanks for the advice guys... i think...
Hey everyone, trying to figure out why I can't get my Q9550 stable over 3.6Ghz.
Here is my config:
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550
G-Skill DDR2-1066 rated at (6-6-6-15) w/ 2.0V 8GB (4x2GB)
Currently Prime95 4 threads "Blend" 24 hour stable @ 425 FSB with 8.5 divider, =...
thank you for this information :)
my CPU is currently @ 38C idle, hard drive is down to 35C now... that intake fan is really helping. I'll see if i can get the 2nd one going at 5V.
That is a very good point, I hadn't thought of that. I think on medium it's too loud for me though, I will try it and see how much if affects temps. It makes sense that the S1283 is overpowering the exhaust because the hot air is staying in the case (when I take the side off it drops so much)...
I just got a GA-EP45-UD3P and it was not shrink wrapped. The motherboard static bag was sealed though. Everything was inside. I don't remember ever getting a motherboard with a shrink wrap on the box.
The built-in sound dampening, overall look, and built in modular Antec NeoPower 550 (which has had incredible reviews and is rated at 85% efficiency). I like the suspension cables for the hard drives as well. Also it fits on my desk perfectly (18.2" long, my desk is 19").
some reviews of...

Thanks, saved me from buying something i don't need. Also the one he linked is not the blue caviar, it's a 16mb cache version for $74.99. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136218
should i just get the caviar black for $5 more...
Cool, so I don't need to worry then about two drives. Is the SE16 WD 640Gb better than the Caviar Black that TechReport recommends? The 2nd drive is only $5 more.
I decided on the Q9400 since Dell has it for cheap (No MicroCenter here). I'm hoping to get 3.2Ghz (400*8), or higher if I can...
Thank you for the advice. I decided on two drives because I am planning to put Vista and OS X on this machine. I know it is possible to dual boot on 1 drive, but just to be safe I wanted a dual drive configuration incase something goes wrong and I need two physical drives.
If I plan to...

Okay... being the thrifty person I am... I decided to price out an alternate cheaper build.. can any comment if this would be a better "bang for buck" system?
Antec Sonata III w/ 500W EarthWatts 80% PowerSupply (Delta OEM) - $124.99 (Amazon)

Sorry! I didn't check the Coolermaster case. It looks okay, but I have a feeling it will get very dusty. Thank you for the suggestion though.
Here is a pic of the Tuniq Tower in a Sonata III. http://premium1.uploadit.org/bobbyboyuk//TUNIQ-33.jpg
So if the Xigmatek will fit, I am...
Thank you for this very informative post. I must have remembered the wrong # for the Sonata III, but i just remember that it fit on my desk.
The problem I have with cases is that the only B&M store near me that even sells cases is Best Buy, and they only stock the Antec 900 /cry. If I...
I was kinda set on the Sonata III because of the Acoustipack Sound proofing kit for it. Also, it is a very quiet case. It's also just the right size for my desk (desk is 19" depth, case is 16.7" deep. The Antec 300 is 19.3" deep and won't fit (i used to have P180B and it did not fit on my desk...
Isn't the Q6600 based on an older fabrication process and runs hotter? I saw some Premiere Pro CS3 benchmarks, and the Q9400 beat the Q6600 on a render 140 to 170 seconds. Unless you are saying the Q6600 will overclock better than the Q9400? I don't plan to do any crazy overclocking, 3.0~3.2Ghz...
