Hey all,
Thought I would follow-up 6+ months later to let you know my final thoughts on my purchase of the 42" westy.
I LOVE IT!
Best purchase I ever made; no regrets. My friends still cant get over how big and clear it is. I wall mounted it in my living room and I sit about 3.5-4ft...
I would LOVE to see [H] show us EXACTLY how many computer components it takes to draw this much power! Show us just how many dozens of hard drives it takes to exceed 1000w of power, 1200w, 1400, 1600!!!
I would love it! Since trade shows have shown high performance SLI systems with like 8...
hahaha I laughed so hard when I read the article. "10 years", theres a handy little piece of information right there. Thanks [H], I'll be holding out on that next hard drive purchase now since new and faster drives are right around the corner! JK ;)
well suppose u WERE to part out the monitor, what price would you tag on evreything EXCEPT the monitor? And does the machine comes with a fresh install of xp (without viruses lol).
Looking to get a decent system for someone and I don't have the time to throw it together.
Your correct that the idea is not new to super computers and the modding community, but it is new to the consumer retail market.
A water cooled PSU would be sweet, but I think the nature of PSU design would make this very difficult. Since they are composed of many electrical components that...
This is pretty special actually.
Using inert non-conductive liquid to literally make contact with the electrical components is pretty ballsy. This isn't the typical 'water-cooling' were used to seeing on the market.
Now if only we had a ToughPower1200w that koolance liquid-cooled... or...
This made me very happy with my 8800GTX purchase last year; but I would feel better about it if AMD/ATI weren't undergoing such hard times as it is.
Normally I buy the best product from either company knowing the other will ultimately bounce back with a better product in the future; but I'm...
+1
Good review.
It's true, this isn't a bad card in normal respects, but Nvidia really did drop a bomb with the 8800 series and all the R&D money they threw into that GPU.
I think the CPU in the review represented the reders systems well, but I'm also curious to see benchmarks from...
It's Good.
Yes Firefly was the canned TV show that the movie Serenity was based upon, with the same cast.
And to agree with the poster above, yes the last few epidoes were great; the worst part is some of them never even made it on the air.
Good review [H].
The Ultra arrived sooner than I anticipated; I am very disappointed.
I was expecting an 8800GTX with GDDR4.
6 months later, this wasn't even worth the effort. Shame... shame...
Smart :)
Actually, I believe his intent was that the q6600 dropping under $300 was still a half year away -- not that summer was still a half year away. His opinion of the q6600 dropping to sub $300 in Q3 07 seems to be the predominant one.
Then again no one can fully predict the future...
A big Thumbs Up to Thermaltake for building such a solid product that actually delivered on its aggressive marketing claims. Four PCI-E connectors would have been nice though, I wouldn't want a clunky adapter for an SLI setup visible from my pc window. I think the ppl this PSU is marketed...
I would never use it.
In my case, my Westy has dvi inputs in addition to HDMI, so I will always just use DVI.
My audio card uses optical out to the reciever, and that wont change either.
I'll pass on spending 4k on home theater. Picked up the speakers in the OP. Impressions to follow; thanks for the post.
Edit: Come to think of it i've spent more than that on car audio over the years, so I guess I'm not one to talk.
$30 more to get the same receiver in silver, what the... ?
Ok after reading the reviews and pictures of the back panel I bought the black one - thanks for the post.
Thank You!!
I have been waiting for solid performance numbers within SupCom to help answer the debate of Quad vs Dual for some time.
As thorough as your benching was, I would make one recommendation.
Most SupCom players such as myself only play multiplayer, and we are the community...
Sorry to hear about that Aurora. You've clearly invested a lot of time and money into your new rig.
I have a similar system I built a few months backthat I've now been thinking of WC'ing. I put the HK-sli on both my NB and SB of my 680i, and the NB one is still running very hot. I might...
LOL, why do 3/4 of the westy pictures in this thread still have the blue sticker on the upper right of the monitor? I had that thing off in the first 5 seconds that mine saw the light of day. :p
Thats shipping pretty far! Which one did you buy? I notice the price differences of the 37 and 42 at Techonweb are pretty close:
LVM-37W3 $1,118.03
LVM-42W2 $1,221.91
IMO thats a very good deal for the 42.
I also purchased my westy from them; the shipping for me was only $45 in...
No problems with OC'ing once I flashed to P23, normal settings are in my sig.
OC'ing has been dreamy, e6400 can reach 3.7 orthos stable for about 6 hours on air before it kicks back an error-- just need to nudge in a few more degrees of cooling
I replaced the stock NB and SB with a...
Who makes a top 50 list out of a pool of possibilities that is not that much higher? Granted theres more than 50 femaile charachters, but 'great' ones? hrmph.
Do we need, or have time, to click through 50? I clicked the link hoping to see samus and tifa near the top of the list, maybe even...
JMD is Correct, IF you plan on sitting up close while using it as a PC monitor.
Personally this is mostly due to the eye strain from sheer size and brightness, and not so much the pixel pitch; images still appear crisp up close. 4 foot+ is my recommended distance for most computer usage for...
Well tygirwulf made me go buy the magazine, and sure enough the westy 37w3 was reviewed side by side with the 30" dell and hp. The westy received a 90% score and the only one to receive the PCG editor's choice award.
Further, if you read the letter from the editor in cheif on one of the...
Thats actually the W4207, a 720p set; not to be confused with the 42W2 which is 1080p.
CNET has not reviewed the 42W2, although the average user rating is 8.2 - not bad considering earlier firmwares had serious issues with banding and shutdowns which are now fixed.
The 37W3 also goes...
For the record I bought mine a few weeks ago from Geekonweb. 1350 shipped from texas to florida in a timely fasion.
Wallmount came from monoprice for $25. Studfinder from lowes cost $15 with a 9v battery. :p
1st game to keep me online:
Quake
Then:
Total Annihilation
EQ (the worst to date)
These came well after all the modem games with my neighborhood friends :)
More seriously this time:
KOTOR I
Star Control 2
Final Fantasy 2 and up
Elaborating:
AMEN
Not just the ending, but the entire storyline of the first KOTOR is perhaps at the top of my list (a very long list), with the very best 'hinted-at and completely missed' plot twist that...
Alright let's put this thread to rest, theres no debate here.
BEST STORY OF ALL TIME:
QUAKE!
The charachter development of the main charachter [unoffically known as "the quake-guy"] was second to none.
The dialog between other oposing charachters (which tend to go along the lines of...
