OK, found out the problem. If I mute the "stero mix" option in windows audio I don't get the problem anymore.

I have tried un plugging the speakers and microphone and plugging just the microphone in, recording and it still recordes the music that is playing. My audio manager can detect that a port has been plugged. I do not have the option to choose what is plugged in.
