My most recent Asus was the P5Q-E. It's been a good board except for the EPU energy saving feature. It just messed around with my sleep mode and shut downs so it had to go.
Cases are dropping firewire more and more now (even Apple has dropped it from its new notebooks, Nanos) and including eSata (going power through cable soon like USB). Cases with firewire look like antiques to me now.
It is. Asus Nvidia chipped boards always look nice it seems to me. Not being on the "green team" I always get stuck with their orange/brown/white Halloween candy-corn looking jobs.
Even Apple is dropping Firewire from new laptops and iPod Nanos.
FireWire not dead, but its on life support

Any week now there is suppossed to be power over eSata (losing the power cord) and USB 3.0 with SuperSpeed bus is expected to be available in...
I find Fallout 3 can be engaging the way Oblivion was and tedious the way Oblivion was. I like the graphics and some of the game play but there are too many petty tasks, puzzles, gimmicks etc are layered into this thing.
Last time I tried Kapersky as a trial (2 yrs ago) scans were real slow - I mean epically slow. A scan that took 20 minutes in Trend took 3 hours in Kapersky. Kappy may have been more thorough perhaps but I would have rarely scanned. Alas Trend got bloated
as they tried to add more and more...
One way several other persons have fixed similar probs is to go into Bios and disable C1E Support. That's a power regulating feature.

Lol - people use their air conditioners and the grid falls apart. So now its "hey lets plug in the cars kids!". The same people dont want electric plants built. Very dumb generation we have at the mo.
Lol - but it says 25 can be bought at a time. That 4$ becomes $100. Too bad the card formats it reads stays at 68 and not 1700. Man all the bases would be covered.
I bought 5 games in the last 6 weeks. That's 4 more than I bought in the preceeding 2 years. Some new games + ATI cards + better reviews of Vista and DX 10 made things look interesting.
I would like the P18X's except they are so ugly - they look like sterile refrigerators from an MD's office.
Here's another case that advertizes itslef as a sound damper. I have never used it and probably wont because of the lights but I find the looks and drive bays half interesting...
Mine are black. I bought them in early to mid 07. I dont know what they are now. I see they are only 90 bucks at the moment. Too bad my Asus P45 doesnt like Microns or I would still be using my HZ's. I always liked how they looked but once they are in all I could see were the spreaders.
I used to use AVG but it was deleting critical files last month:
AVG update deletes critical Windows file

That link "pre-search" business was also causing probs for users and sites (that was turned off or something...
Thanks all ^^
I ended up getting the Adams at Circuit City for 35 (same as Amazon). When I saw they have Band of Brothers is Blu Ray I decided to get that instead (still on sale but cost more)
I bought the Nod32 last time it was ten bucks. It shut off my internet every 20 minutes or so. Was in no mood to mess with it so I pulled it off (problem was fixed) and put on Avira (which false detetcs like a mofo). I'll throw on the Nod now and then for backup scans or summin.
I'm on Vista...
The 10" netbooks are nice (once you try the 10" the smaller ones seem onerous). I wanted an Asus but I went to Best Buy and thought the HP's were nicer. The Asus mouse pad buttons make a click clack sound and are harder to push. Of course you can always hook one up to a larger monitor when used...
I started gaming late and Half Life 2 got me going. Show him a walkthrough on YouTube if he gets stuck. Even the stress tests were cool. Lost Coast was easy first game.
Is FO3 a better game for a noob then Stalker Clearsky? I just started playing games the last 6 months and have only played Half Life 2. I have started Oblivion and like it but find it a bit ponderous. I already have FO3 (it was on sale) and Stalker (also on sale). Is one better to play first as...
I ordered some today. Reading around one person had a reply from GSKill that those sticks had same IC's as a Asus recommended unit for P5Q-E (but were just binned higher or somesuch). Thanks for help.
I didn't see those sticks listed in my Asus mobo guide. I know that doesnt mean they wont work but I didnt want to guess. I have some 1GB DDR2 800 GSkill HZ's running now but I am not sure the board likes them ( I read the board doesnt like Microns which is what the HZ's are). I dont get memory...
Thanks - I was looking at those - and these since there was a Hardforum $5 off promo code for them.

I dont see a whole lot of difference between any of them. I just liked the low voltage on the new cas 4 ram. Its not a deal...
Anyone try this new GSkill memory in a P5Q (P5Q-E specifically)?

I think buying a refurb from a reputable place is fine - I mean at least you know monitor was looked at before sale. I only buy NEC's and I once had 3 serioulsy buggered new displays in a row. I bought a open box NEC and it was perfect (dont recall the warranty policy but at least an open box...
I kinda like the way the case looks for what it is (a utility case - over-built like a utility vehicle) but with a E6600 clocked to 3.0 and a single 4850 I have no need for all those fans. Its not even close.
