Eh, that sucks. This monitor definitely has some bezel fitment issues. It's an especially tough call whether you try for another one when you get a good panel. But honestly, it doesn't seem like anyone up to this point has really gotten a panel that was all that bad. The panels seem pretty...
I provided some fairly detailed thoughts on the monitor a little farther up, so make sure you don't miss that.
Pixel density is great. I was coming from a 27" iMac with the same resolution, and the added density is definitely noticeable. Loving the extra sharpness and crispness. Stand is...
Brightness was at 35 on both monitors. It actually did occur to me the other day I probably should have left them both at default to test the BLB, but I doubt it would make a significant difference. Also, I'm pretty sure default is 50, not 75 (at least that's where both of mine were set out of...
The one I decided to keep does not have the weird shimmer at the top of the display bezel. If you catch it in just the right light you can see it every now and then, but I really never notice it.
I'd describe it as a semi-gloss, probably closer to matte than glossy. But there is definitely...
OK, so finally some more detailed thoughts on the two U2515H monitors I received. I opted to keep the second of the two, but I probably wouldn't have bothered with an exchange for either of them if I had only received one.
Monitor 1
Right out of the box, I noticed this weird shimmer all...
I've got some interesting observations on the coatings, but my Internet has been out all night thanks to an accident up the road earlier this evening. For now, I'll say that it definitely seems matte to me. I've not owned a Dell monitor since the 2209WA, so that's all I've got to compare too...
My U2515H was delivered yesterday. I'll post some more detailed thoughts and pictures later, but my first impressions are extremely positive. Dell actually accidentally sent me two monitors (thanks to the order fiasco I described above), so I'll probably open both and pick the best of the two...
I just noticed that the EnergyStar site lists this monitor as a TN Film display. That can't be right, can it? Is that site known to be pretty accurate?
Well much to my surprise (and despite Dell saying it wouldn't ship until 1/22), my U2515H has shipped! Delivery estimate is Wednesday 1/14. Excited to get my hands on this thing this week!
Managed to get one of these ordered today for $449 US dollars plus tax! But man, Dell's website is such an absolute mess. After five duplicate order acknowledgements, each separated by about an hour, I've finally managed to get an order placed successfully. Apparently the first order didn't...
That's some pretty interesting stuff there, thanks. But I think this now makes even less sense to me then it did initially. First off, with regards to your second point, I know for sure that the primary game I'm concerned with (Assetto Corsa) does output in 5.1 channels, so that shouldn't be...
I posted this over on the Nvidia GeForce forums as well, but I know there are some super-smart folks here and I'm hoping someone here might have some thoughts on the below as well.
PROBLEM:
I am no longer getting Dobly Digital 5.1 output to my soundbar in games. With the exact same setup...
I'm almost convinced there is an overheating issue with some of the recent batches of the i7-4790K. There's an ongoing thread over on the Intel Communties forum and I just made a huge post about it over on Tom's Hardware. Take a look at these:
Tom's Hardware Thread
Intel Community Thread...
Hi Eugene!
I've had an MSI GTX 970 GAMING 4G on order with Amazon for almost a week now with no sign of it shipping any time soon. Any idea when the availability of these cards might improve? I was right in the middle of a system build when these were announced and I've got an R9 290 in...
Emphasis added is mine.
Have you ever actually owned one of these? Shoot, have you ever owned any Dell display? I'll be the first to admit I'm not a Dell apologist. Heck, I'm primarily a Mac guy when not at work. Definitely not a big fan of Dell's computers, but man....their displays...
Thanks for the input guys. Went out and picked one up tonight and am more than pleased. :) I'm using it via an DVI-->HDMI adapter however. I also have a component-->VGA adapter as well. Is there any compelling reason to use this instead? Right now I have them both plugged in anyways--the...
Can anyone comment on how well the Xbox 360 does in the 1680 x 1050 mode with this monitor? I don't have an HDTV yet, but I'm considering picking up a 360 if I can get a quality HD experience. I've read sporadic reports that, while it works nicely with the black bars, the image often becomes...
Still loving my Dell 2209WA after about two weeks. So much so, I sold my aluminum Macbook, bought a new dual-display capable Mac Mini, and want to use a pair of these! Unfortunately, it seems as if the $212 deal through Small Business is expired and the $219 after instant rebate has also...
Well, I got 77Hz working on the Macbook via SwitchResX via ToastyX's instructions. The monitor reported it just as expected as 77Hz. But since I don't really see the benefit for me who, for the most part, is a non-gamer (and with OS X...ha!), I've removed SwitchResX and gone back to 60Hz...
I'm still a bit unclear about something. What exactly is the benefit of running at 75Hz? And if I decide to do this, does this in any way affect the life of the monitor?
Just got mine setup. This monitor is gorgeous! The monitor I used on a regular basis at home prior to this was an 20" Apple Cinema display. Those of course used S-IPS panels, are truly top of the line monitors in terms of quality.
Unquestionably, the image on this rivals that of my 20"...
Mine just arrived here at work. Not much longer now--go, clock, go!
I will say this though. I had heard so many great things about the stand on this monitor so I took that out of the box to take a look. What an awesome looking stand! Definitely one of the best I've seen in recent memory on...
Well it's about time, I was getting impatient. The monitor finally shipped, should be here tomorrow. I suspected it wouldn't actually be 5/15 before it shipped, but man, the wait is killing me.
Can't wait to report back with my thoughts.
Looks like waiting we will be too. There were some reports of a few folks having their order shipped the next day, but that doesn't appear to be the case any longer. I ordered on Monday, April 27th and I'm still stuck at "In Production" with an estimated delivery date of 5/15 (I did get Next...
Just call (or chat) with someone in Dell Small Business and ask for the $212 price. You'd be getting $209 with the coupon, so it's only $3 difference. That $212 price is good until May 1st.
Gotcha. For some reason I was thinking these were video card specific, not display specific. But that does make sense, now that I'm thinking about it.
Thanks! I'll have to give this a shot and report back when it comes in.
Very cool. I wonder, would something similar to the method you described here work with the Nvidia 9400Ms? How did you come about those settings? I can't imagine it was trial and error...
I'm curious, is there anyone here using this monitor with a Mac? I'd love to be able to get 75Hz working at the native resolution. There's supposedly a pretty powerful Mac app called SwitchResX that is capable of forcing resolutions and refresh rates. Hmmmm.
Finally got this ordered today for $212. But because of a previous issue I had with a Dell order, I was able to squeak out free next day shipping.
I've seen next day shipping push orders to the front so to speak on our laptop orders at work. So being the eternal optimist that I am...
To an uneducated display guy, what's the benefit to 75 Hz (or 77Hz)? I'm guessing it has something to do with "fluidity", giving the recent splash "120Hz" HD TVs have made.
FWIW, Destinee said that the $212 price is good until May 1st. Which is a good thing, since my refund from Dell still hasn't been credited yet, and I may not get a chance to use this $212 quote I have before it expires.
I'm this close to pulling the trigger on a Dell 2209WA (have a nice quote sitting in front of me for $212). However, I just realized this evening that LG apparently has some FullHD e-IPS panels coming very soon. Seems this news broke at the end of January/beginning of February.
Has there...
Wooo hoooo!!
Just snagged one for $212 after chatting with someone in Dell's Small Business dept. I tried a few times before that on the phone and on chat in the home and business deptartments, but none of them could do the $212 pricing. Looks like it has to be someone from SMB.
I got...
This isn't good... :(
I don't see anymore 2209WAs listed in the Outlet today. This really sucks, as I was planning on ordering today since my previous order should credit back today or tomorrow.
Am I missing something here? If I wanted to try to get a deal on a new one (even though they...
