I know, these aren't real world.
But they are quicker to run, & i was running them to show someone something, so i figured i'd post 'em here too.
P5Q Deluxe bios 1406
Q9550 @ 8.5x400
Memory subtimings are all the same other than fine delay & tREF which were on auto. Those do not affect...
Two years ago not likely on most boards.
On boards that automatically set tRD, you'll usually end up with a higher tRD @ 1:1, which is another reason not to run 1:1; latency is always worse as a result, even with tighter timings (due to looser tRD).
Even on newer boards though, like the P5Qs...
I do my own testing for "proof", so can you; it's the best way to learn what improves performance.
Real world differences are pretty small.
Synthetics like Everest do tend to mirror real world results, just with more obvious results, which makes it a nice easy way to compare.
Obviously...
Those of you claiming 1:1 is the best option need to learn how to bench for yourself.
1:1 is the slowest possible ratio to run.
Always aim for the highest speed, as Intel systems thrive on bandwidth, not timings, & definitely not 1:1.
This can easily be shown with Everest if you want a...
I almost pulled the trigger on the SSD, but it comes out to over $550 CND for me by the time i deal with exchange rate, shipping, & brokerage.
I just couldn't swallow that price, & i have no need for another quad/mobo/Vista license, so it appears i spent all year wasting time on the quizzes...
Memset doesn't always read them accurately.
Sometimes even CPU-Z gets them wrong.
Everest will show them under Motherboard > Chipset, but it tends to read the same as Memset usually.
Memset read my previous DFI's tRFC wrong at higher values also.
In short, don't believe the software...
Thanx so much for posting your bios settings.
I'm having a ridiculously hard time getting things truely stable @ anything over 450 FSB.
It's not the CPU or RAM, it's the damn FSB...so hard to get it to pass P95 Blend or Large as it always errors or locks up for me eventually.
I've been...
Oh yes you can.
The primary determining factor for visibility of aliasing is pixel pitch, not size or resolution.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pixel_pitch
The lower the pixel pitch, the harder it is to see aliasing.
Even @ 2560x1600 (0.25), i find it easy to see aliasing.
If you're new to OCing, but still want the ability to mess around a little, DDR2-800 would work well.
Good DDR2-800 will do over DDR2-1000.
Or if you want to run stock, it'll settle in nicely @ 2:3
I recommend you be a guinea pig for us :D
Honestly though, don't count on those OCing well...
They might, but i'd definitely expect the opposite.
As long as you don't need more than 400 MHz on the FSB it seems you'll be okay.
I will admit DDR2-800 5-4-4 1.8v is actually really good...
Maybe.
But considering how much i don't like SLi/CF & especially the fact that there is still microstuttering on the 4870X2, nevermind all the [lack of] fun with games that don't scale well w/ CF & the current prices...not overly likely to happen.
Yes, minimum fps is always the most important to me.
All reviews should include that :)
Return it to where i got it from.
That would be nice.
I'll add 55nm to that wishlist. :)
Hard to say.
I don't do SLI or Crossfire though.
Don't like all the joyous issues associated with...
New Ballistix appear to be D9JKH...at least that's what r00n believes, & i agree.

I'd much rather have PSC (Powerchips) in my 2x2 GB kits though.
Overclocks better & with less voltage, not to mention lower failure rate...
We don't talk about that. :p
It's been insanely hot here lately, so it's running very warm.
This thing is running 10-15C hotter under load than the Q6700 @ the exact same voltages.
I also need to try reseating & maybe use AS5 this time.
I used ICD7 for my Q6700, which worked a little...
Get a crappy retail job like the rest of us & stop wishing ;)
I just received my QX6850 this afternoon.
Going to wait to install it till i get a new PSU i'm also waiting on, & then the OCing party will begin.
Say hello to my little friend.
Sure, you can have my QX6850 for $500, half of MSRP ;)
Seriously though, i ordered my QX6850 the other day...we'll see if it clocks better than my Q6700...i kinda doubt it actually, but only time will tell.
tCL = CAS.
The only tweaking you need to do with it is lower it if you can stably ;)
Of course, other than certain nForce chipset situations, you always want bandwidth over timings for max performance anyways.
IOW, you're better off running DDR2-1000 5-5-5 vs. DDR2-800 4-4-4, etc, as a...

I'll just say it's not a n00b-friendly config to attempt.
If you don't mind spending a lot of time in the bios figuring out what to do to ensure its stable, then it's lots of fun.
But for those who don't have the patience or knowledge, it's not a good situation.
Many of those people who...
Yes, tRD affects performance of memory pretty much second only to tCL.
It's an important subtiming that those of who tweak our RAM for best performance :)
I run tRD 8 + all pull-ins enabled (equates to tRD 7) @ 8x442 [5:6] DDR2-1061.
I found that was actually a bit faster than tRD 6 +...
I run my Q6700 @ 3.5 GHz...
Not likely that i'll be getting that much farther with the QX6850 really, but it'd be fun to have an unlocked multiplier to play with.
