Had a Matrox Mystique, but the 1st 3d add-on card I had was the Power VR based Matrox M3D, only lasted a few months before I upgraded to a Canopus Pure3D 3dfx card.
If price were no object, matrox has an 8 display card -- no required pcie power -- but the price is waaaay up there.
That said,this might be an option (4 displays per card, single slot, eats around 35watts of power)...
