They don't mean a 1000x reduction in voltage, just a 1000x reduction in the waste gate leakage. it would still require a typical, if slightly less, voltage to operate the transistor.

the read speeds for RAID0 and RAID5 are almost identical since they are both striped, however the write speed for RAID5 is significantly slower since it has to calculate AND write the parity bit

although i agree that higher density==faster performance, there is a current max density, its the number of platters they have been increasing recently. more platters doesnt necessarily make a faster drive since the seeker head can only be in one place at any given moment.

when the areca gets here, is it best to install the card by itself before attaching the drives or just do it all at once?

have you read the s.m.a.r.t data? that might give you a clue if a certain parameter is indicating a failure or errors.

well, i think i am gonna give raid 10 a shot with the areca 1210 and see how it goes
