I ended up just doing a fresh install of the OS. It was pretty painless this time. I had planned on using CloneZilla. I have had many good results with it. Is there anything better out there that is free?
Hello everyone! I am going to be upgrading my server which is running Windows Server 2008 R2 from 1TB internal + 1TB external (backup) drives to two 2TB WD Red drives (one for backup) as well as moving the OS to a new Intel 330 60GB SSD. I have always had the server do a bare metal recovery for...
If you weren't planning on using the box for gaming, I would say just stick with the Celeron, but in this case I would spend the extra money and get a Pentium as the extra cache seems to help in most games.
To the OP: I am really glad you are happy with your FX 8150! Don't let some of the Intel fan boys ruin it for you and this comes from one who doesn't troll. :) What matters is that you are satisfied with what you purchased.
To everyone bashing his system: Why? Did you spend your money on it...
I guess it is time to list my updates and additions!
Changes:
1.60GHz Intel Atom HT 230 - now my Linux web server and distro update mirror.
1.60GHz Intel Atom HT 330 - now my parents computer. They love the hell out of it since it is silent, fast enough, and it has an NVIDIA ION in it if...
Yeah, I had a hell of a time trying to find a PSU with two 8-pin CPU connectors so I ended up buying a PCI-Express 6-pin to 8-pin EPS adapter as well. Thanks for noticing that though! ;)
That case also back-ordered after I ordered so I had to go with this one:
CHENBRO SR10569-CO 0.8mm SECC...
Thanks! I have had really good luck with ASUS boards in the past so I am going to go with the one you suggested. Also thank you for letting me know about that PS in that case. I have used Antec's before but not lately. The ASUS board's form factor has required me to change cases as well, which...
I appreciate all of the feedback! I have decided to go with 2x2TB internal drives plus an extra 2TB external drive. One internal drive will be used for daily backups and the external for maybe every week or 2 weeks and physically disconnected when not in use.
Hello everyone! I am thinking about building myself a proper workstation soon and just need a little help picking the board and HSFs.
I am currently looking at this board:
ASUS Z9PE-D16/2L SSI EEB Server Motherboard Dual LGA 2011
It seems to have pretty good ratings compared to the other...
Hey guys. Right now my file server has a 1TB internal hard drive and is backed up to an external USB hard drive via Windows Server Backup. However, I am starting to run low on storage and I am going to upgrade to a 2TB drive soon.
My question is, should I simply buy 2x2TB hard drives and...
My ThermalTake BigWater 760+'s pump decided to die today and it seems to be a common problem so I am not even going to bother with the damn thing anymore.
So, what is the best air cooler? Please don't recommend water again, I am just not willing to deal with the hassle. I have read around it...
First, here is my set up:
3.333GHz i7-980X EE (Stock)
24GB TC DDR3
2 x EVGA GTX 480s in SLi (30" LCD connected)
EVGA GTS 450 (24" LCD connected)
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
I have been having problems lately with the NVIDIA drivers completely failing to recognize the 450 after I reboot the...
Hey everybody, I hope I am posting this in the right place. I am considering hosting a website from home and I have the server all set up and working. I don't want to have to type in my IP address every time I want to access it, so that brings me to my question. What is the best site to use to...
VMs:
Windows XP Professional (Outlook 2007)
Windows XP Professional (Software Experimentation)
Debian 6 x32 CL
Debian 6 x64 CL
All running with VMware Server with Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard host OS as my file server on a 2.666GHz Xeon X3230 (Kentsfield 4-Core), 8GB of DDR3, 1TB...
I was just wondering if anyone has come across any of the new D2700 boards with a PCI-Express slot rather than the standard PCI slot on the Intel boards. I would like to snag one and put a low-power NVIDIA card in it. Even a board that has an ION chip would work just fine.
I tried changing every BIOS boot setting I could with that external drive, but it never worked. I even plugged it into another machine to burn the disc thinking, well maybe if it burns the disc itself it can read it, but that didn't help either. I have switched to a new spindle of CDs recently...
I have never had any problems with the drive before and what really gets me is that it will boot a Windows disc and install without a hitch! What is so different about that Ubuntu disc?
Thank you! I suppose something is going wrong with my external USB drive. I swapped in an internal drive from another machine and it started right up. I can't believe I didn't think of the drive being messed up!
Thanks again!
I am putting together a new system as a personal web server to play around with and have run into a snag. I had originally planned to install Ubuntu 11.10 Server x64, but the machine just enters an infinite reboot cycle. As soon as it starts reading the disc it reboots. At first I thought the...
How old is your graphics driver? You shouldn't be seeing that high of a load because the video processing gets offloaded almost completely to the 8400M.
First, let me say that these are MY favorite CPUs and some are in no way the best of their time.
200MHz Pentium Pro P6 - I had an old Gateway that I snagged from eBay that ran SmoothWall for years and the only times it rebooted were due to power outages. I only upgraded from it because it was...
Don't label me that. Yes, I prefer Intel for everything I buy, but that does NOT mean I don't want AMD to do very well. If AMD is in trouble, then I am in trouble because Intel can play the "We can charge whatever we want game". I, of course, do not want that to happen. I can remember when Intel...
Just because there are no results for Intel chips with more cores does not mean they do not exist. Intel is shipping 8 and 10 core chips. I would think a dual-CPU system with Xeons with more than 6 cores would be a fair fight. Otherwise, I just see that the AMD hardware received its rating...
Rather interesting that you compare a 32-core AMD system to a 12-core Intel system... I also thought that lower power consumption is favorable for server chips and I highly doubt those two systems are comparable regarding their processor setups.
I am NOT one of the people that constantly bash...
I have been playing BF3 since it launched and haven't had any issues on either my i5-680 or i7-980X and both have HT enabled. I have seen BF3 use all 12 threads of my 980X so I would leave it on.
