Direct from 80/20, i think this is all scraps but for people who only need a little bit of metal it's cheap.
Is it ok to mix WD 10EADS with 10EACS drives on the perc5/i? I can't seem to find the EADS model any more and from what i've read there's problems with the newer EARS models that are everywhere. I've got 6x10EADS drives on my raid card right now and need to fill the last 2 slots, and a few...
This is exactly what i was planning on doing as well. Just got XP mode set up on my fresh W7 install yesterday. Is there any way to load the image i made with Acronis of my old xp setup into W7 VM or should i just invest in a copy of vmware?
What's an easy usb bootable os i can use for this?
Obviously i can't use the osx install on my laptop, ntfs filesystem on the bad disc makes it read only, and a couple of the files on it are over 2gb so i can't format the destination drive to fat32. Laptop has a tiny ssd to i can't use that...
I accidentally formatted a drive recently and used File Scavenger to get the data back, copying everything it found onto another drive plugged into a dock. After rebooting or hotplugging the drive back into the dock it makes my computer freeze up. On reboots windows xp just hangs after the...
Same here, ordered 3 1tb wd green drives. Drives in bubblewrap, in 3 white boxes, in a bigger box full of peanuts. I guess the egg finally got tired of the complaints.
I just started building a new fileserver and am curious what my best options are for OS and drive configuration. i got a cheap mobo/cpu/ram combo, and a Perc 5/i card i got off ebay. I haven't bought any new drives yet because i can't decide what to do with my old setup yet.
In my main rig...
I used to have this site bookmarked but now can't recall the name. It crawled newegg, zzf, mwave, etc and had dropdown menus for price per gb, sort by type, price, capacity, etc. Does anyone remember the url or if it's still around?
I have my pc connected to my 47" westinghouse as a second monitor in the bedroom and use a bluetooth keyboard from bed. I rarely ever watch actual television anymore, i've got tons of bbc/cbc documentaries i've grabbed off usenet over the years added to a randomized playlist that i click through...
In my opinion CGI is used too often and done poorly. The art of matte painting, in-camera effects, and stop-motion/miniatures is becoming a lost art. CGI too often sticks out like a sore thumb overlayed onto live action, it looks glossy, lacks weight, and they rarely get the lighting right. Just...
20-40gigs. it's almost not worth it for pirates right now. $100 for a 1tb drive, that can hold maybe 14 movies, plus the cost of hispeed internet. unless they're just watching then deleting, but if that's the case why not just rent the damn things.
I got one recently on ebay for $130, after over a month of watching ebay.
This thread i probably answer most questions about the perc 5/i:

I got a Razor copperhead last year and the only thing that annoyed me was that it was green and not blue, since everything else in my case is blue (tt armor with 4 120mm fans). I also had a blue light kit for a while but that didn't last long, i couldn't sleep at night it was so bright.
Great article. I hope you do more reviews like this. In an age where magazines and web publishers are more interested in ad revenue than editorial credibility *coughcnet it's nice to see investigative reporting such as this. Thanks for looking out for us!
I spent my first few computing years on a laptop and can't stand desktop keyboards. I did end up buying the Edge and i'm very happy with it. The minimal key travel and laptop style keys are pretty much perfect.
you actually got the software to install?! that's an achievement in itself. I was asked by a coworker to set his up and couldn't get any version of the software to install on 2 different pc's. He ended up taking it back.
just grabbed one from the WPB Fla. BB. They've got 2 left. I checked the BB in wellington last night and there was a big empty shelf space where it looks like 2 of them had recently been sitting, but with the $120 label still on the shelf.
Now i just need to decide weather to make this my...
yes, my pc and everything connected to it is on surge protectors, lcd, hdtv, cassette deck, speaker system, external drive, scanner, modem, router, all of it. I thought i was protected from something like this happening.
We're having allot of severe storms pass through down here in florida at the moment and i was just on my pc when a power outage hit. the power wasn't off for more then a second but my pc reset along with all my av equipment, i've got everything connected to surge protectors and the pc plugged...
Sam's club has 6ft hdmi cables for $20. You shouldn't pay any more than that. a/v cable pricefixing is one of the biggest scams running at b&m shops like BB and CC. a $20 cable will do just as good as an overpriced $80 cable of the same length.
I'm finally getting around to scanning all the odd comics, zines, and scrapbook stuff in my collection, but started noticing the glass inside my scanner is getting fogged up from the heat exhaust from the components inside. is there anything i can do to fix this? i'm afraid if i open it up to...
I wish i'd painted the inside of my armor before cramming all this stuff in it, at this point i'd sooner build another system than try to pull everything out/paint/reassemble.
From my experience BB is where you go to get passed around from one know nothing teenager to another because no one wants to deal with you, til you finally get a floor manager or whoever babysits these ebonics spewing potheads they call employees. But their prices are good when they have sales...
I built my rig almost exactly a year ago, then got the gtx xxx for xmas. really haven't had anything test that card til this game, it's been collecting alot of dust and keeping my bedroom warm. it runs perfectly at 1680 x 1050 with all settings on high. the ultra high settings are greyed out...
What a scam. how is it that microsoft can offer the same data to mce users that tivo charges almost $200 a year for?
Is it possible to disconnect your tivo from the phoneline so that it won't send data, or would it dump the view data every time you download new guide info? And how/why does...
Not true, who needs a settop blu-ray player when you can use powerdvd on your pc. If you're obtaining the disc images illegally anyway this cuts out the cost of the player AND the $20 blank blu-ray discs.
It'd be interesting to see if sony has even yet made back all the R&D money they laid...
