Lol , I have read about 150+ pages of the thread on my crt before my eyes just couldn't take it anymore. Anyways I did look in the service manual and it only mentions landing adjustments in the corner and mentions magnetic shields. I am wondering if there is something else I might be missing...

Thanks Les, is there something I can put underneath or behind the monitor to block some of the magnetic fields? although the discoloration disappears when I rotate the monitor I don't have too much space and the current positioning is perfect for my needs. Unfortunately no lead lying around :p

Unfortunatly landing controls only the sides of the screen and not the middle top/ bottom. The weird thing is how if ( in my case at least) I rotate the monitor that issue disappears. If only they had landing controls for that part of the screen... I don't think even using the windas cable...

Yes , but the coil in the monitor is a very weak one and is only meant to correct minor stuff. I need a more powerful magnetic field apparently to fix the slight shadow mask deformation.

No one ever got a degaussing coil?

They seem a bit hard to find these days , I am looking for one in Canada , Toronto but haven't had luck and the ones on ebay seem overpriced. Where would you such an item usually and if you have one your not using I could prob take it off your hand :p. This is for an FW900 if it makes a difference.

Yups , didn't seem to make a difference. The magnet seemed to help a bit but produce problems else where. When I degauss the screen and just before it finally clicks into place everything is perfect. Not sure whats going on.

Could you explain this technique a bit more please? I Tried putting the magnet close and on the screen but the result has been disastrous discoloration . Luckily I am able to reuse the magnet to fix what happened with the addition of the degauss button but the problematic area still persists...

Well if it doesn't bother you then don't worry too much about it, I personally have a scratch smack in the middle of the monitor and it bothers me a lot, however after learning to ignore it its not too big of an issue. Since yours is close to the edges where you wont be focusing don't worry too...

what do you mean by dead phosphorous? pics would help but my guess is you mean discoloration at the sides of the monitor. If so adjust the landing settings in the monitor for that corner which should bring it back to normal . hope that helps.

Yup absolutely normal for flat monitors based on trinitron technology. you will get used to them , I still see them but they don't annoy me anymore. Keep the unit if everything else is good with it.That "dead pixel" might be a scratch in coating of the monitor , check that. On another note did...

So I finally got my FW900 and I have been testing it for the last couple of days. Was able to fix most of the geometry problems and some convergence issues as well. Small scratch in the middle of the screen but I am slowly learning to live with it for the price I paid. All in all quite happy...
