haha yeah. that heatsink is quite hefty. I'll move it over to the X99 setup when I'm ready to upgrade but for now, it would be too much for the X58 setup.
Right. the X5675 is around 3x the price of the X5650, and though it's binned higher its not necessarily guaranteed to clock higher, but to each his own.
Out with the new and in with the old.
Sorry for the lack of a before pic. In anticipation of X99 I replaced my Asrock X79 Professional board and i7 3820 with a P6T Deluxe V2 and Xeon X5650 to hold me over while I wait for DDR4 prices to go down. Thee X5650 @ 4ghz beats out my 3820 @ 4.3ghz in...
As of right now, a 4ghz x56XX will beat out even a stock 4790k in multithreaded benchmarks. Is it just me or does it seem like it would take Intel at least 3 or 4 more years before their quad cores beat out these 6 cores? It almost seems plausible but crazy to think that CPUs that are almost 5...
Thanks for the reply. My QPI and UCLK are BOTH at 3600mhz. They are technically set to Auto but the motherboard automatically readjusts QPI to 7200MT/s and Uncore to 3600mhz. I just didn't bother to post a screenshot of my memory tab showing the NB frequency at 3600mhz.
Thanks for the reply...
I just got my X5650 in.
4ghz IBT stable @ 1.2v! (20x200)
12gb (6x2GB) Kingston ECC DDR3-1333 CL8 @ DDR3-1200 CL7 (It drops a stick if I try to OC the ECC RAM to 1600mhz)
P6T Deluxe V2 Bios 1202
Zalman CNPS 10X Single Fan Air Cooler
Everything in my bios is set to Auto except CPU...
I am willing to buy a pair of matching 7970's. I don't care what brand. Reference design is preferred but not necessary. I would prefer that they be able to reach 1050mhz or higher, and must be able to reach 1ghz minimum.
I am offering $450 shipped for a pair. Heatware under novadaemon.

TigerDirect has the H70 core for $44.99 After a $20 MIR. I personally think it's a damn good price for that cooler.
I'm running dual 7870's and I was having so many problems with 12.6 that I was in the process of selling my cards. 12.8 fixed the issues from what I can tell, and I'll be holding onto them for now.
I just wanted to state that I have serious issues in CrossfireX on my 7870 setup. It produces glitches and a bunch of other crap, but I haven't had any crashing yet. Both cards work fine individually. I'm at the point where I might just sell off my cards, or keep a single 7870.
Just letting you guys know. This is a clone of the PCBank PB2700 Monitor. I know cuz I own it and EVERYTHING on this monitor is the same, sans logo.
If you are wondering how well it OC's don't expect to go past 65hz.

EDIT: aaaand I just realized I revived a dead thread. Sorry.
I have experience with this kit. If for some reason your CPU usage shoots up after it's installed it may be a conflict with the Rapid Storage Technology or Intel Manaagement engine software. just watch your CPU usage after you install it.
It's not the kit. I just had a conflict in my Z68 mobo...
It is unlikely that you are being hacked if you are virus/trojan free. Sometimes windows update can pull your computer out of sleep, and then network or hard drive activity can keep it awake.
She has very few options. In the New department http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127611 is her best bet on a budget. There are other options and the tiers go up $10 every time she wants something better than that.
The vram is mirrored so that you effecively have 2gb on a 512-bit bus. With a 4gb (they are advertised as 4gb) 6990 it's the same situation. 2gb of mirroed vram on a 512-bit effective bus. My issue was with the statement "If you SLI 680s only one of the cards VRAM is used. " Which is not true...
This is totally wrong. The second 680 get the ram mirrored, this effectively would give the GTX 680 SLI a 512-bit bus of 2gb vram which doubles the memory bandwidth. The ram feeds the GPUs of the 690 and the 680 the same way. Nothing is wasted at all.
It's an EXCELLENT time to buy a 3930k. in fact there's probably no better time than now. With an influx of cheap 3930k's from retail edge and the announcement that IB-E isn't coming until 2H'13, the 3930k will be one of the top processors for a long while.
Running IBT on my 3930k using ddr3 1600 ram @ Standard preset I get the following average numbers:
4 threads 112 gflops
6 threads 154 gflops
8 threads 154 gflops
12 threads 125 gflops
All 125 gflops
Auto 154 Gflops
The 6 thread number would be consistent with the numbers I should see...
I used a 2600k because I got a special discount on it. When I bought it, it cost less than a 2500k. Also, I don't have a 2600k anymore. I have a 3930k. I need to update my profile later.
This is wrong.

Ripjaws X 2133 was on sale last week for $90 for 16gb. That's less than the price of normal 1600. If you want magic chips for overclocking

get that. some people are hitting 2400mhz.
I have nothing to tell you except that I feel your pain. I've never screwed a pin up so badly that it couldn't be repaired though. I always used a retractable blade and a steady hand to fix mine.
Good luck getting 8 8gb sticks to run at 1600.
You'll either need to drop to 1333 or boost VCCSA voltage to get 1600 on 8 dimms.
Edit: One more thing. The 3820 is not a true 130w part. It's really more of a 95w part. It's basically the only CPU model that has its own die. the 6 core 2011 CPU's...
