Prediction of GTX 460 performance due out on July 12

Whoa! Yeah I remember that, but still.. that's just so wrong.. two 5870's eating wayy less than 1 GTX 480!! Is there anybody out there actually running 3 GTX 480's in Tri-SLI? That would require up to a 1600W power supply like Kyle said! And then overclocking those 480's (watercooled)...

Petition for ATI to allow us to disable trilinear optimizations

My sarcasm detector just went off!!! BLIP BEEEEEEEP!!! *chuckles* Hey, maybe I'm just doing this to see if I have the "power" to get ATI to give us this option or not. *Goes off to analyze self..* And I'm not a fanboy since I do not commit adultery with my 2 rigs--never letting the ATI...

Petition for ATI to allow us to disable trilinear optimizations

A look at how the 4870 does NOT have this problem, with the same tunnel in Half Life 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_vICZsMTQE (compared to the 5870 video below: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYd_LLRbGHU

Petition for ATI to allow us to disable trilinear optimizations

It's much more noticeable in motion, like in this video (click on High Quality) done with 5870 and 10.6 Catalyst drivers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYd_LLRbGHU Absence of moire (sparkle or texture aliasing) might be a good thing, but the hard transition (visible break with most textures...

Petition for ATI to allow us to disable trilinear optimizations

Wow, that's awesome! I wish I was in a movie! @ Bluntman, if there were 1,000,000 people dissatisfied with 5xxx cards, ATI would be out of business! So ATI would have no choice hahahha! Ok, I give up.. it's just a mere poll and not really a petition, and thanks for your votes anyways...

Petition for ATI to allow us to disable trilinear optimizations

Ahh, so this must look better too: :D All right, I guess it was not the best example. Some game textures just look very rough compared to other games. Some have smooth water textures, while others have rough-looking water textures. I'd just like for the line to not be there at all (with a...

Petition for ATI to allow us to disable trilinear optimizations

Well, to add some balance to the effectiveness of petitions, it actually made the movie "Paranormal Activity" launch nationwide and become a blockbuster due to the amount of marketing/funding it received only if it passed 1,000,000 petitions. At the end of the movie, you could see the names of...

Petition for ATI to allow us to disable trilinear optimizations

Thanks, DanD.. Now we have 24x AA, perfectly circular AF, etc.. but now we are stuck with this horrible optimization that makes it look almost purely Bilinear with AF. True trilinear filtering does not bring much of a performance hit--especially as we now have gobs of video RAM. Many of NV...

Petition for ATI to allow us to disable trilinear optimizations

Yeah, ok. :( Let's hope that "rarely" would be true in our favor. It would just be an informal petition at least.

Petition for ATI to allow us to disable trilinear optimizations

Dear readers here, it seems that ATI still has not yet allowed us to disable the forced trilinear optimization in their drivers. While we were all clamoring their new perfectly angle-independent AF algorithm that was introduced with 5xxx generation, many of us overlooked the "brilinear"...

Prediction of GTX 460 performance due out on July 12

HD 5970: 275-300W (Crysis and Furmark) GTX 480: 300-330W So two full GF104's running at 750MHz each would probably mean close to 200W each (at the very maximum). That's closer to 2/3 of GTX480 rather than 1/2, but the GTX 460 with its rumored 150W is LESS than 1/2 of GTX 480. Still...

Prediction of GTX 460 performance due out on July 12

Thing is, the power consumption is rumored to be 150-160W while for the GTX 470, it's more like 235W. With 70-80W difference, there's plenty of headroom. And the chip is not that small (say, 380mm^2 or so). It would at least be do-able just like the GTX 295 when nobody thought it was...

Prediction of GTX 460 performance due out on July 12

I think that NV is just going the same route like they did with 8800GT then later doing a fully unlocked version as the GF100 inventory clears out. Some say that NV is no longer making GF100 cards.. Hey, here's a list of GTX 460 cards for preview on Newegg.. there are a couple 1GB versions...

Prediction of GTX 460 performance due out on July 12

From what I've gathered so far.. Now there are rumors that GTX 475 will be the fully unlocked GF104 chip with: 384 shaders 64 TMU's (the same as full Fermi that never came out) 32 ROP's 256-bit bus The real reason for this is so that Nvidia could make a dual-GPU version that will compete...

Prediction of GTX 460 performance due out on July 12

Wait a minute... wait a minute.. It appears that the 1GB version will actually be GF100 based, not GF104 based, if Theo Valich turns out to be correct: http://www.brightsideofnews.com/news/2010/7/5/geforce-gtx-460-shows-up-for-pre-order-at-e282ac1792bvat.aspx He's been wrong a few times...

Prediction of GTX 460 performance due out on July 12

From what I recall, the 8800GT was more like 20% slower especially as many games now need more than 512MB, while the 8800GTS-640 was like 30% slower. Only in a select few games (like NFS: Pro Street) did the 8800GT do at least as well as the GTX--those were the games that really needed the...

How long until the 5850 is around 250 prince point?

Dude, thanks. You couldn't have said it better than that *evil laughter*! :D Naw, the 470 is more than 5% faster than the 5850. Well, if the 460 does have 32 ROP's and the "leaked" specs as found in this thread: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1530311 then it should be maybe 5%...

Are you really sure about this? It seems that all the GPGPU applications (except for BOINC) have Nvidia not just soundly beating ATI, but LOUDLY beating ATI.

About to pull the trigger: GTX470 or 5850

470 is 10% faster, and does not have the severely "brilinear" AF problem found on ATI's 5xxx cards. If you're into aftermarket coolers like I am, then the 470 would be a quiet and cool card that can overclock even more. There are some versions out there with special coolers already.

So what's better then the 8800 GTX now?

First, make sure your CPU is at least 3.6GHz, whether it's Core2, i5, i7, or Phenom2 (overclocking it is so totally worth it). Then get a GPU like GTX 460 1GB that is coming out on July 12. It will be about $250, but will be nearly equal to ATI's 5850 in terms of performance. However, if...

How long until the 5850 is around 250 prince point?

GTX 460 due out in a week or so is going to seriously compete with 5850, so expect the 5850 to drop a bit. NV has been deliberately avoiding price wars with ATI by positioning their cards in different price brackets so that the competition is not as direct. The GTX 460 1GB will most likely...

Should I buy a GTX 480 or wait for the 485?

If the 485 ever comes out, the core would be only about 7% faster if the core clock remains the same as the 480. It could be more than 7% faster if the memory bandwidth is increased by more than 7%. If the memory controller issues have been ironed out very well, with GDDR5 clocking at say...

    When will ATI have 3D?

Hehe! In your face, CrimandEvil! If 300 people say that it gives them headaches, but 100 true enthusiasts with good 3D glasses and proper settings say otherwise, which one should you believe? Hey, 300 is a bigger number, so better go with that one! Also, 3D gives far, far...

Intel to Launch New CPUs in 3Q10?

Yeah, when is Intel EVER going to release a 32nm version of the i7 920? I don't really care about 6 cores yet, but would definitely like to have something like the 920 that could easily be overclocked by 50% on default voltage, this time to the magical 5 GHz milestone. 4 cores screaming along...

    When will ATI have 3D?

Yeah, some games have awful backgrounds that do not even correctly render in 3D, appearing more shallow than other distant objects that are supposed to be in front of the background! For some other games, the background is hardly an issue as the 3D is awesome. Hopefully nearly all of the games...

    When will ATI have 3D?

Hey, if you are able to adjust the convergence settings to optimal 3D depth and popping-out effect, it'd look a lot better. Just gotta try out a few different shutter glasses. Some are comfortable for some people. Some are just not. Imagine back in the 50's to 70's when contact lenses or...

    When will ATI have 3D?

Polarized glasses usually do not do as good a job of 3D as shutter glasses (the good ones, at least). Plus the movies have a limited depth to it. A truly 3D movie would be where your eyes are able to focus upon anything in the background. However, most of the time, the background is...

    When will ATI have 3D?

IZ3D is still working on it.. might be at least a couple more months according to the forums over at IZ3D.com... they say they already have it working with private beta drivers from ATI that offers quad-buffering support, but i thought it should have been ready by last April??

    GPU Rant

Same here. I left one of the forums that miserably failed me. I was about to do the whole community a huge favor by pointing out an issue with ATI's 5xxx cards (with the severe "brilinear" AF quality), but that forum stabbed me from left and right, and from the back just because they could not...

Why you should avoid Arctic Cooling

This is just dumb, dumb, dumb of a company to be like this. When a company really, really goes against the level of decency that is to be expected by the consumer (dignified human beings), the company only digs it own grave in this dog-eat-dog world of brutal capitalism that is fueled (and...

    NVIDIA 3D VISION SURROUND Experience @ [H]

Yes, but as of Vista and Win7, the graphics memory in use is no longer displayed. There are some things that Rivatuner does not monitor. ATI Tray Tools is an awesome tool that's a lot like RT, but for ATI cards only. Both Unwinder and Ray Adams deserve some kudos after all.

    HIS HD 5870 iCooler V Turbo X Video Card Review @ [H]

I like the IceQ cooler better. The 5870 stock cooler is really much more powerful than that stupid cooler anyways.. just load up Furmark and you'll see the wimpy cooler nearly unable to handle the max heat output (approaching 104C degrees before it crashes). That's why I had to send the...
