I started getting 100% GPU usage and no GPU clocks after installing 12.4, I think. I've spent 3 hours today uninstalling and reinstalling trying to narrow this down.
Now I'm back on 11.9. However, I still have 100% GPU usage at desktop, though it takes a while to kick in. Totally flumoxxed, I...
I have 6 gigs and during some overclocking lost 4 but got it back...Not sure what it is, but you have to make sure it's not using the XMP profile, it won't set the ram voltage right, and that QPI does have to be 1.35 or so. That needs to be within .5 of the ram voltage.
Well, it is noticeably worse. I am now getting lag spikes on all the servers I've tried (I define spike as something disappearing for a microsecond and reappearing ) and I can't hit anything. It doesn't make sense that a command-line ping to a server and the browser show low pings and then in...
Good, maybe they're fixing stuff. Since the Vietnam patch came out, I still have pings of <25 to nearby servers, but as soon as I get in a server, everyone's ping is usually > 100, sometimes in the 200s, and mine is around 90-100. It's unplayable at those pings. I've frakked with my router, did...
I just disabled hybrid sleep in Windows power settings in 7 64 bit (it's under Sleep in the advanced power settings) and now it's fine. I'm pretty happy with this board, though I'm still getting to grips with the BIOS. Obviously also turn off hibernation.
Hybrid sleep fails 10-20% of the time...
I got a nice big WD640AAKS and since it seems to be much faster than my Seagate, I wanted to copy the OS over and try to boot off it. The problem is I moved a lot of files from my other hard drives to this one already.
I tried using Acronis Disc Director to copy the entire thing over and make...
Did anyone ever come up with a definitive answer to this? I used to be able to go to 400 FSB on my e6400 fine, but then a few months ago it always started going to X1 PCI link width, and now nothing seems to help, when setting PCI frequency at 101 or something else used to.
Since I mostly game...
If you don't want to screw with your bios, see this information I posted from another thread. Basically the bios update is just going to do the same thing, except hardcode it. I recommend looking into this because you can adjust it more.
Nvidia's fan architechture is very different. You can...
Nvidia's fan architechture is very different. You can set it to automatically spin up and down using the Low-level system/settings/Fan/Auto part.
First you have to enable a registry key (from within Riva) to change this. This is where the 29% until 100c, then 100% thing is set.
Then you...
The memory is bad, period. The artifacts may only appear in the most graphically intensive game ever, but eventually they will start appearing in other games, even when underclocked. RMA it.
I have a KO, clocked at 675/975 and have yet to see an artifact in Crysis, albeit I am not letting it...
100c is absurd, no matter how you look at it.
The processor may well be able to run at that temp, what concerns me is the memory. Overheating memory can frequently lead to small errors that become bigger with time, until you get crashes or artifacts in game...
It also does not happen...
So if you have a default 8800GT with the fan stuck at 29% until it hits 100c, you have nothing to worry about according to JacobF:
"The 8800GT runs at 29% fan speed by default, it will increase when the the card deems necessary, usually this is over 100c.
The card is rated for over this...
Post 'em if you got 'em.
These KOs must be binned...This is on stock cooling with the fan auto adjusting. Oddly when I turned off the artifact tester and the thing just spun the fan kicked up to 60%...
719/1798/986.
Yeah, the rep they have is basically the sole reason I got an EVGA 8800GT.
Now let's just keep our fingers crossed...I remember there was that GTS debacle last year, when so many people had to RMA (I forget why) but EVGA came through. I followed that because I was trying to decide between a...
I paid $309 for the KO when it was briefly in stock last week at the Egg, I guess I don't mind since it's a substantial improvement over my dying 1900xt, which I paid just as much for in the summer of 2006.
Still, If I would have gotten Crysis, I'd be a little happier with it...
Last...
Well, I got my EVGA 8800GT KO today and I couldn't be happier...Of course, I haven't tried it in Vista yet, I had so many bad experiences with my 1900xt (read, crash within 5 mins of trying to play a game) I have pretty much written off Vista for playing games.
Anyway, this thing is such an...
I'm guessing EVGA repackages the cards they get back and have some agreement with an Asian distributor to re-sticker and re-sell them in China or somewhere. China isn't exactly known for its 100% genuine articles, and they still aren't wealthy enough (considering the number of computer gamers...
That's a ridiculous system for setting temps...Why can't RivaTuner just use a system like ATI tray tools, where you can set a fan setting for a specific temperature (8 or 9 separate temps I think). Instead you have to go through this awkward process of loading different profiles on specific...
Score one for ATI. Well, I'm not happy exactly, but I won't buy Sapphire again, and I don't know the other vendors well enough. ATI has been in my last two systems, time to give the green team a try!
Unfortunately, 15% is just outside what I'd call the magical 10% fudge area...Ie., a 10% difference in performance could easily be created by factors OTHER than the the video card.
Still, I'm seriously thinking of cancelling my 8800gt order, if for no other reason than to wait a week and get...
Lol, I got a KO, good thing I was refreshing...I thought they would update tomorrow morning or something.
Interestingly after I bought mine I refreshed to see if it was selling out already, and they'd raised the price $20...then they brought it back down when no one was biting and sold out...
The memory is probably overheating, if he wasn't turning up the fan speeds right off the bat, there is a good chance the memory is dying, that is the #1 cause of artifacts and crashes. The default fan settings on these cards are notoriously too low. He can try upping the fan speeds to see if it...
Yes, but how much will these new cards cost? Since all hi-end cards in the last few years have been priced over $500, I don't think you're going to get lucky.
Probably going to upgrade to an 8800gt from a 1900xt myself. My 1900xt was on stock fan settings though for 4 or 5 months though...
This is just silly...GTSes are looking even better, I don't understand why new they are still selling at $300+.
If I could get one for $150 or so I would just toss my 1900xt and get one of those babies till the nest major revision...
Just curious, why do people choose to buy more expensive already overclocked cards, instead of just the cheaper vanilla version, and overclocking it yourself?
Since there's now a pretty huge difference between say, an EVGA 8800GT at stock speeds ($270)and a Superclocked, (720 MHZ, $329!! at...
The price gouging means the refreshed GTS and whatever it is AMD comes up with in December will look much better, if you don't want to pay these inflated prices...
Hell, it's less than a month now, just be patient, the retailers all know a lot of good stuff is coming out around Christmas and...
Thanks...
Now I'm hearing the 8800gt has heat problems because of the single slot design...Maybe I'll wait till someone comes out with a superclocked double slot design that'll actually keep it cool. Isn't EVGA's KO supposed to have a better cooler, or was that ACS3...
Anyway, my whole...
Despite the fact that the 8800gt is like $125 cheaper than the 1900xt I bought last summer (2006), I'll probably get one...
Has anyone seen some benchmarks that included the 1900xt so I can make some comparisons?
And if anyone wants a space heater, my 1900xt will be up for sale...
Well, I tried a couple of things, if anyone's interested.
Streaming with Shoutcast works fine, but the re-encoding of already encoded MP3s sounds terrible.I also played around with VNC as a streamer, but its web interface is too primitive.
So I just decided to use Remote Desktop and Media...
I'm trying to turn this old Acer (not that old, at least it has a Pentium M) with a dead screen into a media server/player hooked up to my hi-fi system.
Can anyone think of any software that would let me manipulate what it's playing without using Remote Desktop and directly logging in? What...
Yup, heat seems to have degraded my card too because of the insufficient cooling (low default fan settings). I really can't play anything for more than 10 minutes in Vista without a crash, but with fan adjustments in ATI Tray Tools in XP things are pretty much fine...
Since 7.8 I can't update anything. It bluescreens and fails to detect the video card in safe mode and you can't use the installation setup. The only way around it is to force install an older driver once you get into safe mode.
So I guess I won't be trying these...
I got one for my wife, and it's really pretty useful. The email is great, the web is quite usable, and using Soonr.com or another Skype hack app you can Skype out with it using the web interface. Skype on your computer makes a conference call and calls you on your Iphone...Works great, and...
Try using ATI Tray tools to up the fan speed, probably overheating.
Better yet, sell it before it croaks. The fan, loud as it is, is not good enough on 1900xts and XTXs. I did not use ATI tray tools to up fan speed for about 4 months cuz I didn't know how bad the heat was, and it apparently...
Mine is dying too exactly after one year....
For a while I didn't know about ATI Tray tools, to turn the fan up. Now I'm sure the memory is dying from too much heat.
I'm not sure if you can see this corruption, but even in desktop I'm getting weird green flashing pixels. You can see it on...
Sounds like once the drivers load they are sending the wrong frequency for your monitor to the DVI port, some Samsungs had issues with this, but that's because they were faulty.
Could be the monitor has gone faulty, but try forcing 60hz wherever you can in the Nvidia control panel and rebooting.
