    Samsung - 77” Class S89C OLED 4K $1799.99 @ Best Buy

Yes, I just saw this as well. We primarily stream standard high def content like YouTube TV, Netflix, etc., and almost no 4k content or DVD/Bluray playback. And zero gaming. Is this Samsung still the better choice over the LG C3?

    Samsung - 77” Class S89C OLED 4K $1799.99 @ Best Buy

One thing I noticed when looking at the various specs between the Samsung S89/90 and the LG C3, is that the Samsungs weigh about 25 pounds more with or without the stands. Why such a large difference. Costco has both the S90 and the C3, so maybe on my next visit I'll look them over physically to...

    Samsung - 77” Class S89C OLED 4K $1799.99 @ Best Buy

I'm hoping this comes back down to $1799 again soon. Maybe with March Madness coming up the TV prices will drop like they do around the Super Bowl. If they do, I'm pulling the trigger on this immediately.

Yeah, total brain fade on my part. I had posted the 250 GB 850 EVO deal yesterday, and I think auto-complete filled it in based on yesterday's post, and I didn't proof read. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. :) sorry!

Desktop Headphone Amp Recommendations for DT-990 Pros 250 Ohm?

Two words - Bottlehead Crack You just need to be willing to put it together yourself, but honestly it isn't all that difficult. The instructions provided with the kit are excellent. http://bottlehead.com/product/crack-otl-headphone-amplifier-kit/

Question about 6.3mm to 3.5mm adapter

I'll initially just go with the stock tubes provided with the kit. After some burn in time, I'll look into some tune rolling. A lot of good info on Head-Fi. I'm currently using a Schiit Asgard 2 solid state headphone amp with a Schiit Modi DAC, and it sounds real nice. The headphone out on...

Question about 6.3mm to 3.5mm adapter

And my 880's are the 600 ohm variety, so they REALLY want power. Thinking of building a Bottlehead Crack amp for them. It's supposed to pair really well with the 880/990's. http://bottlehead.com/?product=crack-otl-headphone-amplifier-kit

Question about 6.3mm to 3.5mm adapter

Yeah, you're definitely wasting the potential of those headphones with the onboard sound. They will definitely come alive when driven by something better. The Asus cards are quite alright. And as stated, the DT990's are very nice. I've got DT880's, and absolutely love them.

Xonar DG with Astro A40 question

I was just going from what the DG manual states in the HP Advanced Setting section. There are three selections available. VOIP Mode or for <32 ohms headphones - 0 dB boost Pro-gaming Mode or for 32-64 ohms headphones - 9 dB boost Exciter Mode or for >64 ohms headphones

Xonar DG with Astro A40 question

The amplification factor, also called gain, is the extent to which an analog amplifier boosts the strength of a signal. Amplification factors are usually expressed in terms of power. The decibel (dB), a logarithmic unit, is the most common way of quantifying the gain of an amplifier.

    Recommend me a USB Amp/DAC

Glad I could help, and I hope you're able to find something you like if you ditch the DAC you have. I agree, it's not worth the hassle of shipping it back to China. If you start shopping for a new DAC, and would like to keep the price down, here are some options I think you would be happy...

Xonar DG with Astro A40 question

Won't mess it up at all. When they say 32-64, that is for any impedance between 32 ohms and 64 ohms. Glad I could help.
  21. J

Xonar DG with Astro A40 question

Not really a drawback necessarily, but when the impedance of the headphone is higher, it becomes harder to drive. That is where the increased gain comes into play. Without the increased gain, you would just need to adjust the volume setting higher to achieve the same sound pressure level as...

    Recommend me a USB Amp/DAC

I know that foobar 2000 has an available EQ plug-in. You can also find some EQ presets for it, as well as creating your own EQ profiles. I've also used Music Bee, but I haven't even looked to see if it has EQ capability, although I tend to think that it does. It's also not just solely a...

    Recommend me a USB Amp/DAC

And for anyone that would like to further explore the 16-bit versus 24-bit topic, this will keep you busy for awhile. http://www.head-fi.org/t/415361/24bit-vs-16bit-the-myth-exploded

    Recommend me a USB Amp/DAC

As also pointed out, MP3's can also not sound very good, mostly due to lower kbit/sec. rates such as 128. Just because it is 16-bit doesn't mean it "makes stuff sound bad". Compact discs are 16-bit PCM encoded at a 44.1 kHz sampling rate. So with that logic, all CD's should sound bad, right?

    Recommend me a USB Amp/DAC

I think this has more to do with why your DAC sounds like crap. I haven't been real impressed with FiiO stuff either. I tried the D03K, and promptly sent it back. For a budget DAC, I would still recommend the Schiit Modi for $99. A first gen Audioquest Dragonfly might still be found in stock...

Xonar DG with Astro A40 question

    Recommend me a USB Amp/DAC

I'm using the Schiit Modi USB DAC with the Schiit Asgard 2 amp. One nice feature of the Asgard 2 is that it has a set of RCA out connections for hooking up to a powered set of desktop speakers/monitors. Or you could use the connection to go to an AUX In of a receiver/integrated amp as I do...

ASUS PB278Q 1440p IPS (PLS Panel)

Great feedback Bloodflowerz. I have been debating on picking up a 27" monitor to go with my existing Dell 2407WFP, and the ASUS and Dell 2713 are the two being considered. I have had great experiences with a number of Dell Ultrasharps over the years, and had been leaning towards the Dell...

No BS fan replacement suggestions for H80

While I have no first hand experience with the GT's, I do have both the Cougars and the Noctua NF-F12's. I have played around with both fans in push/pull on an Antec 620 cooler. Both are PWM fans, and I have them set up to ramp up speed on increasing temp through the fan headers on an Asus...
