I have a Win7 laptop that needs to use a static IP to access a database at work (using ethernet). However, when I plug in anywhere outside the network I have to change adapter settings to use DHCP, and then static when I come back to work. At work, we have DHCP assigning IPs otherwise.
Is there...
So here's what I'm trying to do: Recover data off a broken RAID-0 Array on a Dell Poweredge server I have with a SCSI PERC 4/SC RAID controller
Here's how I'm going about doing that:
Using RAID Reconstructor to build three images, one of each three 80gb HD that was configured as one logical...
I have a friend who has a toshiba M105 with Steam/TF2 installed. We can get to the in game menu but whenever we click on any of the buttons the game crashes with an hl2.exe application error:
"The Instruction at 0x00010103 ereferenced memory at '0x0a221564'. The memory could not be written...
Out of curiosity, I'm wondering if anyone's ever definitively fried a piece of hardware from a static shock. I've fried hardware in other newb ways (dropping screws on mobo while on, incorrectly installed GPU backplate) but never from static. Though I do always make sure to discharge myself...
I'm putting up my list now in case anyone is interested and will put up photos when I can get my hands on a camera.

My network setup is as follows:
Verizon FIOS-->DI-604 Router-->Computer connected through Ethernet around house.
Internet works perfectly with every other computer in the house except for just this one machine.
I just rebuilt my machine with a new foxconn m7vmx-k intel board, c2d e6300...
Ditto the monitor limit was probably just meant for CRT depth measurements. My T leg Galant holds my 21" CRT and a 170lb me without squeaking. The metal frame underneath really holds well. and The a-legs are significantly cheaper than the T legs-I opted for the T legs merely for looks.
+1 for Ikea desk. Compared to desks of comparable size at other office furniture retailers these desks are of good value for a large solid desk with a a lot of space.
I have this (corner desk right) galant series desk (there's also corner desk left):

Problem:So I have an Arctic Cooler 3 on my 7900gt and the fan has started making grinding sounds. Easy fix-drop some oil in the axle to lube it right up.
New New problem. To get to the fan I need to disasemble the cooler so I try and take the heatsink off but it's got adhesive pads...

hmm i posted a thread here a few days ago for a friend who has the same exact issue you're having. His mobo did have bad ram slots so it's out for RMA now. We still havn't figured out the culprit yet though.
This is a problem on a friend's newly built machine. Single player runs great and smooth but multiplayer runs like crap. basically, we open multiplayer and the menu lags. In game frames will stutter and skip, just like in the menu. Even when we start our own server. with nobody on it.
Here's...
I had this issue on my Gigabyte mobo. Enabling "USB Keyboard Support" in the BIOS under Integrated peripherals fixed it. Don't forget to press F10 and enter to save. this is different than Legacy USB support.
ok this could be a few things but start here:
make sure the RAM, CPU and videocard are all inserted all the way properly in the correct position. The CPU has a corner you match up with the socket. Also make sure you have some thermal material between the heatsink and the CPU. If you used the...
hey what power supply are you using? make sure all your fans are running ok. It sounds like something is shorting out or overheating. Did you apply thermalpaste manually? If you applied too much the paste could be spilling onto your mobo and shorting something. If you didn't have to apply paste...
does anyone know of a site that publishes frequency response curves for PC speaker tests/reviews? I found Headroom.com which does it for a bunch of headphones but I couldn't find anything for speakers.
headroom even allows =255&graphID[]=351"]comparison graphs:
PA-12 series.
looks like this:
You can see if it's PA-12 on the label. They were used on a lot of inspiron/latitudes. A photo of the label and the wires would be great just to verify. The cable on mine tore. Need one that works without tears. thanks.

I don't know how the Quadros do in gaming but If I were you I'd keep the two cards in their separate machines. Quadros weren't really designed to run games and even though they might run them just fine, your 7900gt will probably handle them better just because the drivers and games are developed...
well the first thing you should do is find out what's causing the lines. Are you using a DVI or VGA cable? Check the connections on both ends. Try using the other DVI/VGA connector on the videocard if there is one. If the connection's fine, try using the monitor on another computer and see if...
Anyone know of a free app for osx that can record video from the isight to uncompressed avi, and a sound recorder that records to uncompressed wav? that would be awesome. thanks.

I've always used Killdisk to zerofill a hard drive before installing windows. I've been told it's better to start off on a clean slate, especially if there's been data on the drive before. Performance-wise, does zerofilling a drive make a difference?
A friend of mine recently replaced a bad power supply that refused to boot up. With the new PSU installed, he tries to boot up his machine but gets an error "No Valid Device". I know it has something to do with the RAID configuration because it doesn't show up with the hard drive disconnected...
nope, i tried both xp media center and xp pro. happens at the same place on both disks. If i get to the format drive screen it shuts down the second i press enter to format drive or create a partition. could the drive be bad?
