Hi guys, I just bought a new HDD and 'm going to reformat my Windows soon. I'm trying to decide which HDD will server better as the main partition, WD1002FAEX or ST2000DM001?
The WD will probably have better access time but the Seagate will be probably better for transferring large...
Hi all, I am wondering if it's worth my money to upgrade from X2 560 BE to X6 1090T? Will I see tremendous real-world improvement? I do a lot of browsing, pdf, word processing, sometimes photoshop, some counter-strike, some winrar and some video editing.
I currently overclock my X2 560 to 3.6...
I think you're right.... I went to power management options and windows turn off the harddisk after 20 minutes. I have set it to 0 minutes (never), and I'll wait and see if there problem still persists. Thank you so much, drescherjm. BTW, are you a German? :)
@drescherjm: Do I just let crystaldiskinfo run in the background and do its thing or is there a quicker way to spot a problem with the hard disk drive by running some tests?
@Terr1, I have run the long WD diagnostic test. It reported no error and passed every tests.
@drescherjm: Thank you so much!
@jiminator, I bought the new SATA3 1TB Caviar Black with 64MB cache. I have the older one with 32MB cache and that one has been serving me great with no problems since day 1.
I have just bought a 1TB WD hard disk and it works fine, except for some times, it randomly makes that spin down noise? and the computer would freeze for 5-10 seconds before continuing. I have bought 1TB Seagate hard disk in the past and it showed the same symptoms before dying. Is there a...
I have conected both routers on LAN port 1 each and set DHCP disabled on the Linksys but it's still not working. Moreover, I lose internet connection if I wire the D-Link into LAN port 1 on the Linksys. It has to go into the internet (WAN) slot. I have wasted a few hours trying to set it up...
Actually, it goes like D-Link LAN port 3 <---> internet port on the Linksys. Shuld I change it so they're each on LAN port #1?
How do I disable DHCP on the Linksys? I can't find it. :(
No, actually the Linksys is plugged into the D-Link.
I'm sorry I should have clarified this: my lappy is connected to the network wirelessly most of the time.
I'll try and disable DHCP in the Linksys when I get my hands on the lappy. :D
I flashed the Linksys router with dd-wrt firmware.
On the desktop:
IP Routing is disabled.
WINS Proxy is disabled.
I've set my local IP to 192.168.0.125
How do I copy and paste output from DOS window?
Result from the laptop coming soon. :D
Here is my problem. My cable modem is connected to my main D-Link router and my main desktop computer is connected to it. I hard-wired my new Linksys router in my bedroom to my main router. My desktop is running Win XP and my laptop Win 7.
Now, if my laptop is connected to the D-Link router...
DMA is not enabled, but it's set to AUTO.
PIO settings are also set to AUTO.
My CPU utilization is now 2-5% during copy. :woot:
There is even a neat little tab on my Device Manager > nForce4 SATA Controller now, and I can use it to test the read speed of my Raptor 74GB.
Transfer...
I have just re-installed 6.86_nforce Xp drivers and I am now seeing NVIDIA Nforce4 SATA Controller in my Device Manager. I'm on DFI Lanparty NF4 Ultra-D, btw. And I am now rebooting into the BIOS to make sure DMA is enabled. BRB....
Thanks for all the help, guys. Yes, I have actually tried to run Seatools on all the drives and except for the clicking Maxtor, every one of them passed the short drive self-test.
Hello, all. I'm having problems with my hard-disks. These are the four that I currently own, although not all of them are used at the same time:
WD Raptor 74GB (SATA)
Maxtor DiamondMax 10 6L250R0 250GB (IDE)
Maxtor DiamondMax 10 6L250R0 250GB (IDE)
Brand new Seagate ST31000340AS 1TB (SATA)...
