moving from backup exec to veeam 7. How is the tape option

forgot to ask, did you disable the hardware compression in the to-tape job? as the Veeam files are already compressed, it might be limiting the througput of the tape unit, instead of helping with the capacity for the admin box and the exchange server, you could consider just using windows...

moving from backup exec to veeam 7. How is the tape option

Are you running an incremental or a reverse incremental? If you're running an incremental, the tape sets can get very confusing. When you use the reverse incremental, an incremental back-up is run against the VM's (short window needed), after which a (daily) full is synthesized by the...

new PSU advise for homebuild server

that unit looks good, but the extra headroom is in the 12v rail, 3.3v and 5v are the same as the Seasonic units. As this is a server (iGPU FTW) I don't see the advantage of the extra A's on the 12v rail at a price increase of 40~50 euro

new PSU advise for homebuild server

moving from backup exec to veeam 7. How is the tape option

been using the to tape option of veeam for a while now. When combined with a reverse incremental to disk then to tape it works fine, you end up with a daily full on the tape. it takes a little under 3 hours to put a 600GB full back-up on an lto4 drive (before Veeam dedup and compression the...

    SLOW raid1 RS2BL080 server

if the server is on a UPS you could test the RAID1 in an "Always write back (independent of BBU state)" mode and see if it is worth investing $180 in a BBU.

    SLOW raid1 RS2BL080 server

sounds like the RAID5 is in wite-back mode (using the cache on the controller), but the RAID1 is in write-through mode and has the on-disk cache disabled.

Odd setup - what would you do?

since you're already running windows 8.1, what about Windows Storage Spaces? it seems the system is used mainly for playback (reads) so a somewhat low write speed shouldn't be much of a problem, just leave a disk or 2 out of the pool if you plan on ripping any media to the system.
