What do you think? Parallel usage will be pegged at 100%, regardless of number of cores. Would like to spend less than $1500 for the CPU, though the cheaper the better.
Do you think a two-CPU mobo would be good? Looking to have at least 20+ threads available.
16 core AMD? ($719), or two of...
So, my wife accidentally dropped a water bottle about a foot away from the computer case, and somehow a little drop of water made its way through the case vent, into the computer onto the graphics card (AMD 7950).
I'm just glad she's ok. I know what she was really doing, she knew I was wanting...
I'd like to install the Windows 8 Preview, but don't want to go through the install if I there aren't any drivers for the 7950/7970.
Anyone try it yet? :)
My 7950 seems to be going south. I notice weird dots all over the screen with any application that is GPU/hardware accelerated. Owned this card for about 31 days, so I can't return it to Newegg at this point for a replacement.
Any information about Sapphire? Already entered a ticket.:o...
If I set it to 1920@1080@ 60hz or 1920x1080 @ 59hz, the image scales down, showing about 1-2"s of blank space on each side.
At 1920x1080@50hz, it works correctly, but it's 50hz.:p
GPU: Sapphire 7950
Screen: Asus 21.5" IPS LED panel (two)
Monitors have one DVI connection, one VGA connection...
Going to be ordering all the parts in about two weeks, and just hoping supply will be there.
Newegg is currently sold out. Probably going with an Asus 7970.
I need color accuracy over response time, so I'm just curious how to find out if the Dell LCD has the better color accuracy then the other panels?
It's a thin LCD with a black housing around it, and I think the price was around $400 or so.
Thanks. :)
I have a decent 20.1" Sceptre LCD, great and cheap monitor, however, it has some color grading issues.
So I'm looking for a, I guess you call it, 16.7 million color LCD monitor, 17" 1280x1024 LCD?
This is for art, so I'm looking for color accuracy more than resolution/size.
I have...
Needing more RAM for work, and am willing to dual boot into a 64-bit OS to take advantage of it.
So just curious if I bought 4 sticks of this for 8gb of RAM, would it OC well? 750w PSU (Thermaltake Toughpower), Asus P5B Deluxe wifi, q6600, etc.
This is more for work related things and...
I have an Asus P5B Deluxe Wifi mobo, and I though I remembered reading something where a BIOS updated enabled the ability for SLI on this motherboard.
Anyone know about this? I Googled this, and found a few links, but was still curious. :)...
So I have my 8800gtx hooked up, and it's been running fine for months, as long as I don't overclock it much. I'm thinking, perhaps if I hook it up to another rail, I can increase the OC. For a little bit after I bought the GPU, I had the GPU hooked up to two different rails, so it would crash...

:)
Hopefully the multi-core patch will be released for the Source engine close to the release of the "Orange Box" :)
There used to be a program I used that I found at www.majorgeeks.com that you could download and use (free) and easily enable/disable cores for certain games and applications.
I used it all the time when I had a 3800x2, and now I can't remember the name.
Any ideas of the name of the program...
Edit:
Got it working. I just left the multiplier at 9x and OCd it to 3ghz with the stock voltage. :)
_______________________________________________________
Well, I had an e6400 that did 3.4ghz on the stock cooler stable (though temps were a little high, circa 75C max). Now I switched...
So I like Vista, but for some things, I need "ol' faithful" Windows XP.
So I was just curious, how small of a partition can I make for Vista? I know a lot of times what's recommended or "required" isn't always a requirement, so I'm just curious if anyone has done something similar? :)
All we have around here in Greenville, SC is a horrible baseball team, and a horrible sports commission that fails to keep anything going.
So any SCers around here? :D
So who else is excited to try the first playable Direct3D 10 game?
Sure, we had cascades, and the froggy demo (the froggy demo sorta mimicked D3D10, but was basically advanced OpenGL/D9c stuff).
So who's ready?
Vista? Check
D3D10 card? Check
May 15? Not yet :D
So I have my Raptor harddrive partitioned into 40gb for my XP installation, and I also have about 30gb of space basically "blank" and ready for a partition.
Now, the question is, can I perhaps use Partition Magic or another program and make the Vista installation the primary parition, and...
I mean, at least give an option to turn off some of the perverse stuff.
You know why the new Die Hard movie is going to be PG-13? So more people will go see it/buy it. I think game developers should do the same thing, at least give an option to turn off such filth like Gears of War, UT2k4...
If I put the CPU at 100% load via Intel TAT, both CPUz and Intel TAT both read 2.8ghz, but when I stop, CPUz reads 2.1ghz. Did I enable some sorta of "cool-n-quiet" feature or something by accident? I was working on a the BIOS settings a few months back to fix my PCI-x16 link width (and I did...
Aero causes FRAPS to crash, probably because Aero is powered by the GPU, and FRAPS catches things rendered by the GPU, so it probably makes it freak out cause it doesn't know what to do.
I now can use FRAPS like normal. :D
Hello,
I have an 8800gtx coming in the mail, so what I was planning on doing was just making a partion between the two. 27gb to Vista and the rest to XP.
On Vista, I would just install any DX10-specific stuff (Cascades, etc.) and then on XP I would install BF2, UT2004, etc.
Whenever I ran...
So I'm going to limit what I'm going to buy. I have some extra money, so I'm going to use a bit of it to pay off a credit card, and the rest I'm planning on buying something else.
First, look at my PC specs, and I already have a 7950gx2, so not sure about the 8800gtx.
I have a 26" HDTV...
Is it feasible to sell such a TV on Ebay? I plan on buying the nice Westinghouse 1080p monitor, so I'm just curious how I would go about selling my 26" Samsung HDTV (CRT)? It's nice, has HDMI, components, etc. but I'm planning on buying a bigger one for work on the PC and for watching HD...
Well,
First it was my 7900gtx that caused me a headache, now it's a 7950gx2 after a few months of usage. I think the 7-series of GPU cards was a disaster personally, and I'm glad I'm going with a 8800gts or 8800gtx soon (unless we hear more about ATI's new card soon).
First half the card...
Edit:
The issue has now been fixed, I just went back to the "old and trusty" 91.45 drivers and everything is fine. I think perhaps 93.72 have some issues, but I wouldn't be surprised. :P
Ok, I'm using 93.72 drivers, and this is w/ a 7950gx2 and it is set to multi-display instead of the regualr...
Just curious what manufacturer you planning on buying your R600 from. I have used Nvidia for a while, and basically always buy eVGA cards, but not sure what the ATI equivalent of eVGA is (or the closest). :)
I will have an emotional breakdown if I write anymore about the headaches this mobo has caused me, or the fact that I installed Windows 5 times (Vista and XP) trying to track down the problem.
By the way, I ran MemTest for 8 hours and not one error, just to make sure it wasn't the RAM before...
Face it,
Nvidia has been throwing out new cards every few months, and as soon as a new card is out, the older ones get dumped on.
Often in the G80 benchmark threads there was talk of Nvidia coming out w/ better drivers so the performance would be SOOOO much better, but nope, it just isn't...
