I put my own O2 together and have never had any issues. It's not the best amp I own but it does sound pretty good. If you can't sort out the problem, try diyaudio or use warranty if bought from a builder. Hope you get things sorted :-)
Strange indeed. Your source would have to be pushing close to 3V in order to clip the input on the O2 on low gain. Could just be a faulty op-amp. Hope you're able to sort out the issue :/
They have a good amount of clamping force and on ear, so for long sessions probably not the most comfortable. Definitely have a boosted bass response, so if that's what you're after and don't mind the clamp go for it. I had a pair on loan from a friend for a week, and they seem like they can...
Yup it's a 6.3mm (1/4") jack, but the amp does not come with an adapter. Not listing the size of the jack is probably something you take for granted when your client base can tell the size by sight alone. It should be listed though.
And how much are you willing to pay :p
Seriously, you might be happy with something as inexpensive as a Fiio E10, or you may want to spend more for flexibility and functionality.
How high do you have the "volume" turned up on the back of the speakers? You could just be hearing the amp noise, or the amp may be picking up noise and amplifying it.
I have a pretty good memory lol. I never said you hated them, just that you thought they were a ripoff because of the price above what a stock T50RP cost.

I want to chime in about the weight. They are a heavy pair of headphones...
OP: I know you think the Mr. Speakers Mad Dogs are a rip off, but seriously try them. Maybe they're not what you're looking for, but you're only out shipping if they aren't for you. I think they sound great, and the comfort and isolation are top notch.
I picked one up a couple of weeks ago. The treble can be a little bright at times, but it's not overly rough or fatiguing. The bass isn't overbearing, but it definitely has more authority and weight than your standard onboard. Very clean sound overall, and a very inexpensive usb solution for...
It could well be the onboard sound/motherboard going bad, but look at your psu as well. The speakers/amp don't have the problem since the problem disappears when you don't use the pc as a source.
You could stay with Sony and go with the MDR-V6, or go with the Sennheiser HD439 at your price point. Both are pretty comfortable, circumaural, closed, easy to drive, and fairly flat. The Sennheiser are more polite in the treble imo and sound better, but both can be had right around $100 or...
Any type of rubbing if you move the speaker cone in and out. Did you ever try to see if the voice coil was just popped out? Check for any tears in the suspension including the spider underneath the cone.
You may have unintentionally popped the voicecoil out of the pole. You might be able to get them back in if this is the problem, but you're of course working with the understanding you might have other issues. Try some sticky tape (stickier the better) on the center of the cone and gently pull...
My first guess, not knowing how you desk is set up, would be that your monitor may be a little too low. Even a few inches where you have to have your head down a little will equal neck pain after a while. I find the HD 650's to be fairly light for a full size headphone.
With mundane noise like that, you can just have good passive isolation and you'll just hear the music pretty much. At your budget, good ANC is nearly impossible to get.
If you're really serious about the Mad Dogs, you could always take advantage of the 15 day return policy. You can give them a good audition and see if they fit your needs.
Yes of course. You can edit compressed audio files like mp3 ect. Pro audio engineers just normally work in uncompressed formats because lossy compression like mp3 degrades the sound quality a bit.
For your application it's fine. If you were doing something like pro audio editing with your recordings you'd want to work with an uncompressed format like wav. For just lectures you'll be fine.
Not to knock any opinions, but have either of you actually heard the mad dog's? I've heard both the Mad Dog's and The LCD-2's, and they're not as far apart as you might think. The LCD-2's are better, but they certainly aren't $700 better. I know diminishing returns apply, but for $300 you get...
Some may have a different opinion, but I don't believe in headphone burn in. Can the FR of a speaker change slightly, sure but not enough that it would be a night and day difference. Your brain can however adjust to change the way you perceive the sound after repeated use. My Senneheiser HD...
Pia, but it's always best to eliminate all possible reasons for the error. Go barebones on the computer, just necessary components to boot successfully and back off any overclocks.
Edit: you might also want to check if any bios updates address any issues with the card and your mobo. Not...
I got to try the K550 today at a small headphone enthusiast meet. Super comfortable, light, and very nice sound stage. They're not bass light, but for a closed headphone it has less bass than you might associate with closed set. Overall very good sounding and beautiful to look at.
Any chance you could move the sound card to a pci-e slot further from the video card? Make sure the 12V going to the gpu is also not routed near the sound card if possible.
If you haven't already, I'd suggest making sure one of the gain options is set to x1(unity gain). At x1 gain it will be just a buffer basically, but with sensitive ciem's you won't need lots of power and you'll enjoy a lower noise floor. With the ODAC you won't need or miss the x6 gain that's...
Positive you're using the correct jacks on the sound card? Sounds like you have the speakers plugged into the headphone jack. Sorry if it sounds like I'm asking a silly question, but we all make mistakes and I'm not there to see for myself.
I'd suggest something like the Fiio E10, unless you need a portable dac setup. It has a low output impedence on the amplified output for your iem, and a fixed line level output for when you get your speakers. It's not the best money can buy, but it is a very inexpensive and good solution for...
I believe you have it setup incorrectly for your intended use. The optical out on the motherboard is only an out iirc and not an input. You would have to use usb for input/output with a pc. The optical input would be for ps3 and xbox input.
edit: If you do have both the optical and usb...
I don't know how loud you normally like to game, but I'd start looking for closed headphones. Open headphones are much better for positional sound, but they leak and will be audible by others. Closed headphones with good positional sound for competitive gaming are harder to come by. Headphone...
Whether corners were cut or not remains to be heard(seen). The fact that i'ts an smd design lowers the cost through bulk production. If the O2 were a smd desing and mass produced, I'm sure the retail price could be under $100 while maintaining a reasonable profit. Non bulk cost for the O2...
If you have the realtek software installed, try forcing it to detect as a mic by right clicking the jack you have the mic plugged into (connector retasking)
Did you plug in the firewire front panel cable to the pci-e card you bought?
From the sound of things, you have the front panel firewire plugged into a motherboard usb header
