    Security + Exam

I'm currently reading Darril Gibsons 'CompTIA Security+: Get Certified Get Ahead'. It's a good read, not dry and his writing style is easy to follow with real world examples. You can get the ebook for $9.99 and read it on your PC by downloading the free Kindle app from Amazon. Book...

Network + certificate and Dec 31st.

I think it just depends who you ask. Most will tell you not to bother with it and to aim for something higher while others will tell you to go for it. I'm one of the ones to tell you to go for it, why not? If nothing else you will learn some things you didn't know before!

Network + certificate and Dec 31st.

I personally look at it as steps in a ladder, or goals for myself. I've been working in IT for 10 years and have no college degree and actually dropped out of high school but obtained my GED (lol). For that reason my resume is severely lacking in the education department and I wanted to start...

Can ping web sites but now browse.....

Make sure port 53 isn't being blocked on your firewall for some reason (this is commonly the port for DNS). And what are your DNS settings? Are you getting them from your ISP or do you have your own server set up?

    Network pics thread

For those of you with multiple servers at home, how many outlets are you utilizing? I have two UPS units in my rack with each one going to a different outlet. I have two servers (one for each UPS) but I want to add more and am concerned with how much load I can put on a single outlet. Thoughts?

Need some help burning 7 onto dvd

The .box files DO matter, they are the majority of the OS. Just burn the three files onto a dvd as a data disc instead of .iso and if you need to reinstall the OS before your DVD comes in the mail then copy those files back over to your desktop and run 'em again.

Laptop (only computer) on a wireless?

No problem, all he needs to do is purchase a wireless router which his service provider might even be able to give him. His laptop (if it's anywhere somewhat new) should have a wireless NIC already built into it so he would be able to connect to his router and go from there.

Adding employee pictures in Active Directory

Can I turn off "Wireless Networks Detected" notification?

If I remember correctly you can click on the notification box to open the wireless config window, from there under I think "preferences" you can uncheck show alerts or notify me when wireless networks are available...sorry, it's been a little bit since I've seen that, can't remember the exact steps.

    Thunderbird Profile Issue

    Systems Administrators

There will just be one admin account that we all use, that being "administrator" on the local machine. My own specific login will only have user rights along with everyone else.
