Nvidia is on a roll with rebranding.
@Crosshairs
Yes, but Nvidia takes rebranding to a new level, I bet they have one marketing section just for this :p Seriously how many times can you release one product and call it new, talking about 8800GT here.
I was gonna ask why would you want to do that, but higher clock limits explain it. Now Iam actually intriqued by this, since I have flashed my Asus 4850 core over 700Mhz and overdrive does not recognize it anymore.
Does anybody know what are the OC limits of latest Sapphire cards, I might...

Ok I admit it, Nvidias naming scheming starts to be too much, atleast for me. Less knowing consumer is going to get burned with this stuff, and I thought that Nvidia is going to make its product line clearer
Got similiar setup, Asus 4850 with Accelero S1 + 120mm fan, idles around ~36c and with furmark it goes around 50c.
Dunno how this accelero works for 4870, but it's like made for 4850 :)
ps. I used the original thermal paste that came with the accelero.
Not even etailer can ship one for you?
Cannot but recomend this Accelero S1, dropped my 4850 cards temps 40c all across the board, with 120mm fan that is.
Zallmans alternatives can be used also, but I really think Accelero S1 is the best aftermarket cooler out there for 4850. Too bad it...
For 50$ I would switch, if not then head over to techpowerup for easy pencil mod for the 4850, you can get the card very near 4870 speeds that way. 3rd party cooling is recomended though :)
Buying a dirt cheap Artic S1 fixes the heat issues of 4850 for good. On top of that one can do easy pencil mod and clock the card to 4870 speeds easily. I have honestly not had more impressive card than 4850 in a long long time. But if green makes you warm an fuzzy, cannot think of anything bad...
People who make themselfs brand loyal over one faulty card really feel naive to me. Welcome to the bleeding edge OP, it is not allways a smooth ride. Not doing a RMA, in this case, just sounds dumb to me
ps. Did you test the card on another system?
Yes Iam 100% sure, I got an faulty DVI cable. This is due to the fact that I did not even see BIOS before I turned the cable around. I had hard time believing the solution myself, as it does not sound very logical, but then again, there is plenty of stuff in IT which really does not make sense :)
Silly as it may sound, but with my 4850 I had the exact same problem, and it was fixed by turning around the DVI cable.:D
Logical assumption, my DVI cable is faulty.
Seems like the busy bees of the forum sales men are in a frenzy allready.
I would suggest OP reads atleast 4 different review sites through to get overall view about how the cards perform in the games he plays. You cannot get unbiased view around here you know.
Don't be a sheep and follow...

^ Nvidia making minus first time in five years also tells you something. Nvidia has seen better days.
:D Using the word "rape" with 3D cards certainly gives vivid mental images!
Power consumption is huge, but what do you expect for a high end card. Looks good.
It seems TPU VGA bios collection has some new 4850 BIOS out, weird that these do not have the lower idle speeds. I modded the original Asus BIOS for lower idle speeds (160/500) and flashed with atiflash. Also lowered the idle voltage from default to 0,95V.
Guess this is Nvidias can of whoop ass or whatever? :D
A driver set which you can use to watch a bunch of fancy tech demoes and improve your 3dmark score, unimpressive.
edit:
^ ok how OT can you get, ignore this one.
ps. For the rest of you, what do you do when you do not...
Asus 4850 working fine here with cats 8.7.
Try running with your comp case open, see if that helps. If it does, overheating is most likely your culprit.
ps. Installed Accelero S1 on my 4850 and had similiar freezing when it was running passively. Once I installed 120mm fan on accelero...
I would start by installing the latest BIOS and reloading BIOS setup defaults. If that does not do the trick, reinstall the windows and make sure you have all the latest drivers for all your components. To me it sounds like you got more dire problems than anything CCC tweaking could fix. Device...
I must ask, when and where have you seen any major company NOT denying rumours like this? I think it's written in some book called "corporate conduct 101" that you deny everything to the bitter end.
If you think these companies are out there to make happy customers you need to get real, they...
Tell us more background information. Are you trying to extend your desktop or are you trying to clone your display?
With extending, what your trying to do, should work. Cloning only allows both displays to run the same resolution.
If the fan fails during warranty time, you can always RMA it. I would suggest 3rd party cooler however, my 4850 temps dropper about 30-40c across the board with accelero s1 + silent 120mm fan.
1. Yes, you only need the DVI/HDMI converter that came with the 4870, HDMI cable and some sort of reciever that can use HDMI sound.
2. No, the sound uses PCIe connector with the audio passthrough, no case internal cabling needed.
3. You should enable the HDMI devices and set em as default...
Run everything stock and reinstall your drivers, and don't forget to use a driver cleaner. Usually this is the best way to start troubleshooting the situation.
I would highly recomend heatsinking the PWM on 4850 ! I installed a Accelero S1 on my 4850 and added some AKASA VGA ramsinks on the PWM. The PWM sinks run burning hot, actually my card would crash of overheating before I installed a 120mm fan on the Accelero.
Some people have just sawed off...
Benchmark with furmark, it makes 3D card produce more heat than any other bench out there.
On side note, any other 3rd party cooler beats the default cooling. Accelero S1 + 120mm fan dropped my 4850 temps about 40c across the board.
Seeing the [H] news page, it seems that once one tech corparate goes down, the rest will follow. Being a real world witness of the mass dying of Nvidias mobile parts and seeing how 48xx series being welcomed with open arms, I predict AMD will do well in coming times.
ps. One must remember...
They better come out with something better than that to beat 4870x2. This is the first time in ages Nvidia cannot ruin on ATI:s parade, makes things intresting
Can't remember for sure, as Iam at work, but my old 3870 gave me around 11k points in 3dmark06. 4850 gives only about 500-1000p more, but the performance difference in games is really noticeable.
