V8 refers to the arrangement of the cylinders? I count 8 cylinders, in what suspiciously looks like a V formation in the video, complete with valves, pistons, and a crank shaft.
V8 doesn't say anything about the motive force behind the pistons - whether it be exploding fossils, exploding...
Customers lie, cheat, and steal, and never, ever believe they're at fault.
I work for an unnamed major ISP in Canada, and I've heard everything. "I'm in College, why would I have to read?", "I don't touch anything with electricity in it", and "I haven't touched anything" when the modem has...
I too work the internet help desk, and I think you'll find that the average customer doesn't even know how to spell DDOS, never mind grasp why their PSN doesn't work.
I have an owncloud server but I haven't actually used it for a while. The major issue was actually the client - cpu usage spiked quite high because they hadn't optimized indexing.
I also had early problems with filename issues on the server, mainly due to a mashup of japanese filename...
And finally - the completed workstation.

My Laptop desk - another Ikea unit. It floats around from room to room and side to side to give me extra work space and a spot for my laptop that isn't obscuring monitor space.

Some bits and pieces before I show off the final result.
The amplifier is tucked behind the monitor out of site, which makes it a bit hard to use the remote.

Okay - one last push till the end.
Right hand monitor mount, using the silver monitor arm that started on the left side of the TV. You can see where I moved it back and forth a few times before I was happy with the placement...
There are more monitors coming.
I'm also going to be making things neater, but for the moment it's taken so long to get to this point that I just need the thing together and working.
More photos coming, probably in a day or 2.
Glad you guys like it ;)
I need to take some more pics before I can continue on the workstation, so here's the laptop charging station I did in the space vacated by the old desk.
Made from the Stolmen system from Ikea.

Jumping around a bit, the next thing I built up was my collectible nook.

Set up a Vittsjo shelving unit:

Here I'm test fitting the monitors. The arm I reused on the right side isn't adjustable enough, so I'll have to spring for one that matches the left.

I have a bunch of things that I want to put somewhere (KVM, external HD boxes, etc), and no place to put them. I also need somewhere to hang my headphones, but the most convenient place is the side of the steel rack. Not the most convenient place to put a hanger.

I need a place to stuff my switch. Technically, it came with rackmount gear, but do you think I can find it? Bah.
There's a nice space for it in the gap created by the Mixer at the back of the rack...

Depends on the computer. I'm moving my stuff from a Lian-Li PC70 (which re-defines the term spacious), to a 4U rack, and it's a very tight fit. Cooling is especially a concern - I had to get creative to keep temps down. Rack cases tend to have to be loud to achieve the same cooling as a well...
Now, I want the rack to be self-contained: Wiring this sort of set up is a nightmare, and I'd like to cut down on my rat's nest as much as humanly possible.
First order of business - Power.
Now, the rack is steel with enclosed sides, not leaving me much room to hang stuff on it.
Solution...

The trick to prevent buzzing on Lian-Li cases is to tension the side panels. I've got a pair of PC-70s, one old style and one new style. The old style one has the middle retention thumbscrew ever so slightly offset from the top and bottom ones so that the panel bows outward, increasing the...
My Engineer friend went to a trade show in China where a vendor had a stack of identical power supplies, and a selection of stickers with different power ratings on them. When you ordered power supplies from them you also specified which sticker you wanted stuck to them.
I sometimes have half a dozen things going on at a time, so I leave them open for reference. Other times I'm lazy. Normally it's only a 100 or so, but right now I'm up over ~260.
For example, I left this this thread open in a tab - otherwise I probably would have forgotten about it.

The original front was basically made of slotted 5 1/4" bay covers (most of which were missing), panel cut outs for the original controls, and a pair of 80mm fans. The aluminum is just an expedient way of covering everything up and letting me mount things to it.
I'll be mounting the KVM and...
