Just wanted to jump in here on this comment. My wife got me a DS lite for my first fathers day and I got BA with with. We are very competitive with it. She will play it durning the day when our 3 month old sleeps and the when I get home at night I will pick it up to see that she beat my times...

Another vote for Canon from a Canon fan boy. I can't speak about the Nikons, I here there good, with that said I love my dRebel XT. I've worked my way through the Canon line over the last 5 years. Starting with an A10, then a S1 and now the dRebel. I wish I would have got the SLR right way...
This is a true statment but the org. post was looking for a cheap tripod which wouldn't support that rig anyways. I'm just saying for the money a bean bag make as great "tripod" Also the orginal poster was looking for something light and without going carbon fiber any tripod worth anything...
Are you sure you need a tri-pod? How about using a beanbag? I used to think I needed to bring my tri-pod with me everywhere I went becuase I loved the pictures I could get using it.
Not anymore though. Now I just bring a beanbag and get creative where I place my camera. I've yet to wish...
