Assistance with budget graphics card upgrade.

I figured I'd post a little update. We ended up buying an EVGA GTX 750ti oc 2gb. The card is a considerable upgrade for his system, and he's pretty happy with the choice. Purchased it refurbished from Tiger Direct for 82$

Assistance with budget graphics card upgrade.

Thanks for the advice, I think a 750ti will be a good option, and the lower power consumption is a bonus. He didn't really want to, but I think spending the extra 30$ was a good idea.

Assistance with budget graphics card upgrade.

I'm helping my nephew with a little upgrade for his computer. I believe he really needs an external graphic card. The problem is, he only has about 100$ to spend. (He's 14) Mostly it's used for Diablo 3 and one of the DOTA games. Otherwise it's used for videos, classwork, and I'm sure some...

    Maximus V Extreme - Can't install Windows 7

I've had the same problem in the past on my Maximus IV. I ended up using a DVD to complete my install. I actually ended up thinking I had a corrupt file on the usb stick. I never considered that my front ports are all USB3. Would have saved me several hours of frustration if I knew this before...

Found a candidate for Mini-Itx build

Today at work I've been cleaning our equipment storage room. Well I came across this interesting little Cisco box. It's a Cisco 1030 Wireless lan controller. It has a Epia Mini-itx motherboard with a 1.0ghz VIA C3 processor. Its dimensions are H: 2.5" W: 8" D: 10.3". I believe this will make...

Need help with getting HDMI audio going

I have a very similar setup. A 6970 with a 2560x1600 monitor connected via dual link dvi, and a receiver connected via hdmi. Try getting into windows without the hdmi connected. Once your loaded, plug in the receiver's hdmi cable. Open Catalyst control center and make sure that it recognizes...

    Noise over HDMI

This makes since, because the volume changes the level of the hiss and it comes equally from all speakers. I'll test and see when I get home.

    Noise over HDMI

Well, the noise is coming from the computer. I connected the xbox via HDMI to the same port the computer is using and the noise was gone. I also tested by plugging my phone's hdmi up to it, once again noise free. And to verify I'm using the AMD high definition audio device when connected to...

    Noise over HDMI

Ok so to explain my setup, I'm using the HDMI port on the graphics card to connect the receiver (Pioneer vsx-521), another HDMI going from the receiver to the monitor. The problem is that I hear a hiss from the speakers. The noise seems to be generated from the computer, if I unplug the HDMI...

    compact speakers

These are probably going to be your best bet in that price range. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836121002 We use those at work for our portable AV cart. They are decent sounding and have enough volume for 25+ person presentations.

    Desktop amp recommendations

Any reason why the Dayton APA150 http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-812 isn't recommended more often? I've had mine for over a year, it's a beast. It will cleanly drive a good pair of bookshelves to their limits. The only complaints would be it's a fair bit bigger...

    HDMI 5.1 passthrough problems.

It turns out this receiver has a mode called EXT.STEREO, it appears to do exactly what I'm wanting. It makes 2 channel audio play out of all speakers with some reasonable processing included to keep imaging fairly intact. Other wise I've just been keeping it on auto surround mode. That way all...

    HDMI 5.1 passthrough problems.

I'm not sure what the correct term is. I'm referring to upmix as taking 2 channel material and playing it through all 5 of the speakers connected to the receiver.

    HDMI 5.1 passthrough problems.

I'm getting a little out of my league with this new setup. I've been wanting to try out 5.1 on my gaming setup. So I picked up an open box Pioneer VSX-522 receiver, I have it connected via HDMI from my 6970. That part was simple. 5.1 content plays back great, all channels are working properly...

    Need a decent sub

Maybe the Dayton SUB 120. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-635 100 bucks for the 12in model. You will be hard pressed to find better for the money. They also have a 10in and 8in model if space is an issue. The driver itself isn't very impressive looking but the entire...

    Smallish bookshelf speakers, good sound

If your looking for small, you may want to look into the Audioengine set. http://www.amazon.com/Audioengine-A2-Black-Powered-Speaker/dp/B000VKEFN2 They are pretty small and very well reviewed. I'm actually surprised they aren't more popular.

    Torn Between Two Cases

I just bought the TJ08-E. It's a very versatile case, well built, and with very good ventilation. The case is pretty compact regarding height and depth. However it is wider than I expected, it leaves a lot of room for routing cables. If you have the case on the desk or relatively close to your...

Safe to power 10 fans over one 18 gauge wire?

I noticed that I was reading that as .83 amp per fan. If they are .083 then stick as many as you want on there. For a nearly 10 amp load my advice still stands. Drawing 10 amp from a 25ft 18 gauge wire is asking for fire.

Safe to power 10 fans over one 18 gauge wire?

Granted I'm not an expert. But I believe that the only true way to tell if the wire is sufficiently sized is to do a check for voltage drop when a load is placed on the line. Ideally you'd want less than a 5% drop at the furthest connection. (Coming from installing amps and whatnot in cars) Or...

    ASUS RMA is Ridiculously Horrible!

I probably got one of your 6870's LOL. I sent an m4a88t-i in for rma and in return they send me a 6870. This actually worked out for the best, since I bought a replacement motherboard anyway.

    EVGA Overtake

Its all pretty impressive. I noticed this because I just recently started folding again. However I noticed that I'm rocking some crazy numbers on my 570 with these newer Wu's. I'm seeing 18.5-19k ppd with it. Its been a while since I've folded but I don't remember the ppd being that high.

    New case, watercooling mod.

Don't get me wrong. I really don't drink very often and that's the first time I have ever damaged a case. (I banged into the porch rail with my arm and dropped the whole thing onto a concrete step) My old case was way to big to be carrying around anyway. It may have been aluminum but it was...

Core i7 2600K 69% faster than Zambezi-FX according to TrueCrypt benchmark leaked

Truecrypt 7 is utilizing the I5 and I7's AES-NI instruction set that greatly boosts performance for the cpus that support it. Since the I5 and I7 are supporting hardware encryption/decryption and the AMD isn't, its a pretty terrible comparison.
