Monster 7 foot usb cable with led powerflow indicator $1.99/2-pack + ship(today only)

For those that missed out, monoprice sells USB cables for a buck a pop or so, depending on length. They're not as pretty as monster cables, but they work just as well. ;)

How to hide a partition from Windows Explorer

Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Management -> Right click on the partition/Drive and choose "Change Drive Letter and Paths. . ." You should then be able to remove the drive letter currently assigned to it.

Walmart Gift Card after mispricing on SSBB

I got mine. I was disappointed that it was cancelled, but not surprised at all. It was obviously a pricing error. Nice of them to own up to their mistake (though they should probably fix the way orders are cancelled, what with the email saying I cancelled the order and all).

    Dorm room internet

We allow upwards of 2 registrations per student, assuming there's enough IP addresses in the subnet they are in. Students who need more are encouraged to bring a router, as it frees up IP addresses for other students to use. Not to mention most dorm rooms only have a single ethernet jack per...

    Dorm room internet

I can't imagine a school not allowing you to setup a router. . . I would definitely recommend getting one--you're better off in the long run. If you pick up any more Internet enabled devices (e.g. XBox 360, PS3, etc.), then you're going to want an extra ethernet port. And unless I'm...

    Multi Monitor Support

You'll need two video cards, at least one of which has to have dual dual-link DVI inputs to run at full resolution (otherwise, if all you need is 1280x800, single link inputs will be fine). There's no real way around using two video cards for running more than two of these high res monitors.

replacement drive for dell latitude d810

Pop the drive out and take a look at what type of drive it is (SATA or IDE) and order a replacement drive from the Egg (or your other preferred etailer). To determine the type of drive thats in the system, use this handy guide: http://www.dbits.co.uk/html/laptop_hard_drive.html

OLPC America to Launch in 2008

Actually, flash by default doesn't display on the OLPC. You need to click the flash ad/program to start it, and then you're probably hosed if you want to navigate at all. :D

OLPC America to Launch in 2008

After playing with one of these earlier today, all I can really say is "lol". Browsing [H] or any site with mark up greater than a bold tag slows the system down to a crawl, and I'm not sure how playing with a stick figure will make a big impact on African children. There's some pretty cool...

Will Vista premium retail upgrade 64 bit work on laptop key?

From my experience, unless imaging a number of identical machines, it's quicker just to make a quick 5 minute phone call to Microsoft to activate.

    Anybody tried secure.legalsounds.com?

Looks to be another site operating under the same questionable copyright laws that allofmp3 used, and mp3sparks continues to do in Russia. My own personal opinion of these sorts of sites is that you may as well just go pirate the music--ethically it's the same. You're not supporting the artists...

Will Vista premium retail upgrade 64 bit work on laptop key?

Not true at all. I've used the OEM key on the bottom of Vista systems to do clean installs numerous times using disks not provided by the OEM. You WILL need to call and activate the copy of Windows as it typically will not authenticate online, but the key on the bottom of the laptop IS valid and...

    An eee pc favor...

I just tried the Simpons trailer. I had to downgrade mplayer to get the proper codecs working. The video lagged behind the audio significantly--the Eee definitely isn't going to run 720p videos unfortunately, even with the processor at 900MHz (using the 8804 bios). This thread here suggests...

    Laptop won't post

When you say it's not booting now with the 2x2GB sticks installed, is it not posting, or is it crashing on start up? Assuming you're running a 32-bit OS, you may run into some issues with 4GBs of RAM installed-it should boot fine, but that's not a guarantee. Also try booting with each 2GB stick...

    An eee pc favor...

Matroska video? I'd give it a shot if you have a download link and it's legal (and something preferably not 4GBs :p) *Edit: Ah, a specific codec. If you can link me to a 720p video that's not too large, I'd be happy to try it.

CoolerMaster RP-550-PCAR PSU FAR at SVC

I orderded mine a few weeks ago. Fan runs at 100% constantly, and sounds like a vaccuum cleaner. The noise was not related to the fan grill--I replaced the grill with one that stuck out a bit away from the fan and it's still obnoxiously loud.

    Dead 30gb Zune

How old is it? If it's less than 30 days old, give NewEgg a call. Their policies permit RMAs on MP3 players for up to 30 days. After that, you need to deal with MS unfortunately. Bob from India's advice may seem annoying, but it is your best bet before an RMA with MS.

What to do if I forgot my pwd. on Win RAR

It's possible to extract the password out of zip and word documents. That's not the case with RAR files--unless the OP used an easy-to-bruteforce password, there's virtually no chance that the password will be cracked this century (unless, of course, an algorithm arises that can get the password...

    question about laptop

You probably also have a recovery partition that can be used as well if you can't find the CDs. Refer to the manual for your laptop for the correct key combo to hit during the bootup process to access it (you can get the manual off Toshiba's website if you need to).

Best Buy Still Using In-Store “Website” On Customers

If I'm not mistaken, their "fix" for this was putting a tiny disclaimer at the bottom of their internal site saying something to the effect of "This reflects instore prices only, not bestBuy.com" or something to that effect. Since customers browse with sales rep, they won't actually ever show...

New Macbook (not pro) at Macworld 08?

Definitely consider waiting. What exactly will be revealed no one outside of Apple can say for sure, but with a major announcement or two just two or so weeks away, I think you'd be wise to hold on to your money until then (as hard as it may be).

Just ordered me a Eee PC

    Good non-windows OS?

I would argue that any OS distro that has package management, as handy as it is, is shielding a lot of the inner workings of Linux insofar as getting software up and running. You don't realize just how many damn dependencies there are until you have to update a dozen of them by hand manually. :P

    Asus EEE windows 64?

Just to clarify a bit more, it's a Celeron M 900MHz clocked at 630MHz stock. There's a beta BIOS floating around that will allow you to raise the FSB from 70MHz stock back up to the full 900MHz, but some people have video issues related to the BIOS. No word on whether or not Asus will actually...

Buying a Eee PC Overseas, Warranty etc. Issues?

It would likely be covered under warranty, but it would need to be shipped back to the states, and you'd be taking a big bet on whether or not Asus would be able/willing to ship it back to Oz. From my experience, most companies will not ship out of country for warranty work, especially to...

    Wiping a Dell Laptop Drive

    REcovering from nasty trojan

When smitfraudfix fails to remove it, I find resorting to a boot disk (BartPE being my personal preference) and removing the shitware manually works wonders. A majority of the files hang out in system32. Sort by date and you should be able to recongize them quite readily.

How does 2560x1600 compare to 1920x1200 (Gaming Experience)

I've found screen size more important than resolution--I'd personally consider looking into a nice 37-42" 1080P set if possible (this is, of course, assuming the 2560x1600 resolution does not have significant appeal to you for other work such as CAD/programming/etc).

Sorry but not sure if this belongs here, monitor issues though

As far as I'm concerned, absolutely. No way would I pay $500 on a monitor, paying extra for a warranty, only to given a smaller $300-ish monitor as a replacement. Usually Dell is pretty good about these sorts of things. Did you buy through Dell Home?
