I've had this problem and realized my VGA port on the video card was dying. I switched over to DVI and haven't had any problems. Hopefully it's that simple for you.
Well on the rare occasion I got the 430w to power up the Gateway it works flawlessly, but when I turn the PC off it won't boot back up. The HTPC is an old P4 3.ghz with three HDD's and one perephrial, and also powering a x1650 that's power consumption is 50w. I might swing down to Staples and...
Trying to upgrade an old 5404 so I have two half decent computers. From Gateway:
Intel® Pentium® D 915 (Dual Core) 64-bit processor with EM64T Technology
edit: tried replacing the PSU with a 430 Antec PSU and was having a lot of problems. I'm leaning towards the Gateway PSU is a propitiatory...
Trying to get a second computer working. Could I run a 9800gt, 2.8ghz dual core Pentium D with one HDD and one DVD player/burner, plus two case fans?
quick edit: the 9800gts are said to draw roughly 100 watts.
The odd thing is that I had to pull the CMOS battery out for it to start. It worked fine and I shut the PC off to see if it would start up. Nothing happens. I pop the CMOS out again, wait a few, and it works(not everytime mind you).
Just going to bump this once in hopes that someone's familiar with these older Gateways(model GT5404). Both PSU's are the same size, same mount holes etc. Do Gateway mobos have a different pinout than usual 20/24 pin mobos?
Well that's unfortunate but you're probably right. I'm not sure on the model of the PSU, I'd look right now but have an appointment I need to leave for very soon. Thanks for the help
Perfectly. I only tried switching PSU's because I don't trust stock PSU's from Gateway/Dell/Compaq et cetera. This PC is a GT5404 with a 2x1GB upgrade in ram and an 8400s replaced the onboard video. The PC's probably three years old.
edit: don't know if specs will help but Intel Celeron dual...
Sorry I wasn't specific in the title, I didn't want to make it too long.
I'm currently using a old and slow Gateway PC that has a stock PSU. I have a nice Antec 430 not in use so I thought I'd swap them. I swapped them without incident and went to power up the computer. Works fine, though it...
It runs game OK. It's really not a gaming computer, but anyway I got Oblivion running OK. I moved a wireless card he had installed down one PCI slot so the videocard can get some air, and added a fan on the side of the case blowing in. Went from ~10 to 15 fps to at least 30. Now that I have the...
Gateway 5404 or something similar.
He updated SP1 apparently and the background says it's not an authentic copy. No bloatware, has Avira and MAB installed, no spyware or viruses to be found. Relatively new install of OS. I did look at the requirements for Oblivion and I thought it should run...
On 1024x768. I just opened up his case, his wireless PCI card was literally a centimeter away from his graphics card fan. I'll clean his fan and move the card. Was just curious if the IDE HDD could be to blame as well? 7200rpm with 8mb buffer.
He's getting maybe 15fps and severe lag on the mouse, but I think his computer's fine. 2.8ghz dual core Pentium D 915, 2gb ram, 8400gs for video(believe 512mb). Could his IDE HDD be slowing him down. He's running a pirated version of windows 7, would that interfere? Any help would be...
Sexy. Subbed.
I was readin' the front page and someone said that must have been expensive for all that copper.
If you don't mind me askin, how much was it? If you look at it in the big picture I'm sure it couldn't have costed a lot when you look at the prices of some of the current cases.
Don't lose all hope guys!
I found this about 6 months ago.
Keurig B70 premium; nib, unopened with a $200 dollar price tag on it. Now they go for 150 shipped on ebay..I'm about to put it up for sale(I've been lazy to say the least)..
This was behind a Bed Bath & Beyond btw!
Very nice, teatime. Windows 7 desktops look nice as ever.
1360x768; look's dank on this 26" Westinghouse(especially when you're used to 19" lcds..)
