Are you playing any "old school" games?

I've been playing System Shock for the first time. :) For an old game, it really sucks you in. It's been absolutely great so far, and I'm loving every moment of it. Heck, I've even set aside God of War 2 for the time being because I'm really enjoying this game. I've also got System Shock 2...

Personally, I find PuTTY to be far more robust than the telnet client included in Windows. Not sure whether it runs under Vista though.

What games have you regretted buying?

The most regrettable purchases I ever made was getting the 7th Guest and the 11th Hour on the PC, and Wolfenstein 3D on the SNES.

One for the real old techies: putting a complete Windows 98 install on an external HD

Or you take the long hard path and use DOS to do a minimal install. :) 1. Boot into DOS (using the Win98 setup CD selecting option 3) and create the primary DOS partition using FDISK. Then reboot. 2. Boot into DOS (selecting option 2 IIRC) and define your paths. You define the paths at...

    Game Music - Some Favs

I usually listen to any of the Castlevania soundtracks that are composed by Michiru Yamane. The soundtrack to Shadow of the Colossus is excellent, too.

Do you still have you old Consoles/Handhelds?

I too hoard my old consoles and games. :) Thus far I've got a: Colecovision, Sega Master System, NES, SNES, Turbo Grafx-16, Gambecube, PS2, and an Xbox 360.

    Gamespy?

I liked it when it was QuakeSpy. :) I stopped using it after it became bloated nagware. I used PingTool for a time before switching to All-Seeing-Eye. I gave up playing online years ago, so, like a few of the posters here, it's been nearly a decade since I've used it.

Old games you would like to see remade.

My opinion of course, but I don't think Doom 1 and 2 qualify. Doom has already been remade, and classic versions of Doom run flawlessly under Windows if you use one of the various source ports that are available.

    What was your First Console?

My first console was a ColecoVision that I got right about the end of 1983, I think. Then I moved to a Sega Master System, NES, TurboFrafx-16, SNES, Gamecube, PS2, and finally an XBox 360. I still have all my older consoles, all in working condition. Well, except maybe the ColecoVision...

A (maybe?) problem with my iPod

You could view the iPod's HDD SMART data while in diagnostic mode to see whether you've got any bad blocks. You can get into diagnostic mode by hard reseting the iPod and pressing the center button + rewind while the Apple logo is being displayed. If you see any "Reallocs" in the SMART data...

    Your favorite Zelda game?

Ocarina of time is my all time favorite Zelda game. It had a great storyline and was tons of fun to play. A Link to the Past comes in second. My least favorite was Zelda 2. Worst. Zelda. Game. Ever. Zelda 2 wasn't fun to play at all, it was tedious, mostly due the sheer amount of pesky...

Old games you would like to see remade.

I'd like to see the System Shock series games redone so that they run under XP. Well, part one at least. I've never played them unfortunately and I always hear great stuff about the series.

The final boss didn't give me too much trouble. My only problem was with the damn game crashing everytime I came close to finishing him off. :)

    The "unlocking content" annoyance

That's exactly how I feel. I just recently finished Castlevania: Curse of Darkness on the PS2. While the game was okay I was really hoping the soundtrack mode would've been unlocked upon defeating the final boss. Not so it seems, I have to beat every single boss all over again in some lame...

    God of War help

The only way a normal game can be switched to easy is if you get killed repeatedly. After an "X" amount of player deaths (I haven't played GoW in a while) the game will give you the option of switching from normal difficulty to easy mode. AFAIK, there is no way to switch an easy mode game back...

Angry Gaming Stories anyone? Broken Controller :(

It's probably Castlevania on the NES for me. For a while I had lots of trouble getting past Frankenstein and Grim Reaper in that game. I never did destroy a controller, though, but I was damn near close.

Castlevania: SYMPHONY OF THE NIGHT coming to XBOXLIVE ARCADE

If this was Rondo of Blood instead of SotN, heck, I'd run out and buy a 360 tomorrow! :) It was kinda nice that they announced this on Castlevania's 20th anniversary.

    Activation Key

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't WPA tied to your current hardware configuration rather than an X amount of installs? I've reinstalled XP a lot of times on my home system, the only times it ever asked me to call Microsoft to reactivate was after a CPU and motherboard upgrade.

Team fortress 2? What the ...

Or, in a nutshell, since every class has its own strengths and weaknesses, more teamplay and strategy is needed for a team to win. Also, TF supports more than just Capture The Flag, you can also do escort missions (Hunted), capture and hold, King of the Hill, etc. Team Fortress has never...

    team fortress 2 teaser releasd

Looks like they used 2Forts for the trailer's backdrop. And it looks pretty good, too. Personally, though, I'd like to see classic QWTF maps like Canalzone make a comeback, or maybe even Rock1 with teleporters. :)

Team fortress 2? What the ...

There were so many great maps out there for QWTF which nobody ever played: Canalzone, those cops vs. robbers maps, 4F4 with hooks, Hunted. Rock1 with teleporters added an especially crazy twist to every game too. Hunted was also loads of fun, at least when the map was played correctly and...

Wii ability to download "legacy" games... worth it?

Yep, same here. The only problem I see though is having to translate the game to English. Netplay with games like Dungeon Explorer would be nice too.

It took them over 10 years to make Prey...

IIRC, a lot of gaming sites were calling it the "Quake Killer" back in those days. Then it just seemed to silently disappear off the radar. My memory is still a bit fuzzy about when I first heard about Prey. I do know that I was playing Qtest1 long before I heard anything about Prey.

Games you wish people still played...

Quakeworld Teamfortress. I miss playing classic maps such as 2forts, Hunted, Canalzone, and Rock 1 & 2. Playing COOP online before Quakeworld was released was tons of fun too.

How do you guys remember all the commands?

I pretty much learned most of the basic commands from the DOS/Windows to Linux HOWTO over at the TLDP. Then again, I had already been using DOS for several years prior when I started using Linux, so the switchover wasn't too painful. As stated in another post above, the Linux Documentation...
